I hope not signing Rooney is not a step forward in my opinion.

All depends upon the financial outlay. if the fee is nominal and the wages are closer to EFC level and not the crazy money he has been on at UTD, why not?

He could be a brilliant player in our midfield. Sure he has had a mixed 12-24 months but. he has become England's leading scorer and UTDs in that time (somehow still doesn't get the credit he deserves. we will miss him when he's gone) .
He is 31? and frankly was never blessed with Owen like pace. He is a big lad but that suits his style of play. I think with our Europa commitments he could be a pivotal player in our squad. Be great for the kids, be great for our international profile, be great for our revenues so what's the problem? Sure its nice to be able to set our sights higher these days but I think Rooney could be a valued "stepping stone" and frankly to be the club who has him at the end of his playing days could be useful if he or we ever wanted him as a coach? sign him up I say.

{Ed025's Note - wayne seems to be marmite at the moment B76, i have to be honest im in the no camp at the moment because im unsure of the terms he will want, will he be promised game time and take a massive cut in wages are just 2 of the issues for me, my main worry would be that if he comes and is our highest earner by far then that could affect the dynamic and togetherness of the squad, as i say we dont know yet so maybe my concerns will be unfounded mate..

Totally Ed 025
I fully agree with your comment. I wouldn't have him if he was expecting to be Charlie big balls and lording it up over the team with outrageous wages. If the money is right for a player heading into the final years, i'd have him. If he starts to demand (and he probably does have the right to) top man money, then not for me. He would sell a truck load of shirts though.

As a squad player and a mentor, most definitely like to see him back here. His experience and leadership would be invaluable in the Europa league and he's still got planet left in the premier league. My only concern is that if he comes, what of the younger players coming through? The like of Tom Davies and Lookman, and to a certain extent, Calvert Lewin may have their progression hampered by being pegged back down the order.

{Ed025's Note - a mentor pierre?...if you want our young players hanging around old peoples homes looking for totty maybe.. :)

If we get him he has to be put up front. United played him deeper the last two seasons and its the only time he has not scored 20+ goals in a season.

What have you been smoking Bobslad? Wooney has only scored more than 20 in a season twice!
Come on mate! we use the internet yet we don't check our facts before we start spouting nonsense and make ourselves look like idiots.
