Who's next then eds? Rooney? I can't see wjy he won't sign a two year deal worth 150k then go to USA or China and make the mega bucks. And we need to spend at least 40m for sigurdsson.

{Ed002's Note - I can't see Rooney in China at all. And even in the MLS I don't think it would suit him. Obviously a return to Everton is something that could be viable - but potentially a mistake in my view. I appreciate it would be a fan pleaser but he is on a downward slope in his career now, and really Everton should be looking for the next Wayne Rooney or at least someone younger who can be counted in the plans going forward as the team is rebuilt.}

ed i think andre gray or josh king would be better option to rooney, but can see why some want him, think the revenue for club could be good and also think the younger players of the squad would benefit from his experience and his advice, think we should go all out for sigurdsson aswell, anything on barley aswell ed seen him smiling in training yesterday.

{Ed025's Note - gylfi would be a great addition djr, swansea are desperate to keep him though so getting him wont be easy, i dont think ross knows what ross wants to be honest, maybe he was expecting all sorts of top clubs queuing up for his services when in truth there has not been much interest at all, unless someone comes in late with a panic buy i can see him staying and seeing out his contract mate, with the players we have now i dont see a future for him at everton to be honest and i think he has been poorly advised..

Hard to disagree with the opinion that Rooney is on a downward slide. With so many young players coming in though, I believe he could be the player with the experience and the passion to drive the project forward.
Just imagine that winning goal in the 90th against that other lot.

I'm with you ed, for me spending a lot of cash on Rooney would not be my preference. I agree that he would be good mentor to the younger players but we already have Barry Jags Williams and Baines for that. If Rooney was cheap and didn't expect massive wages then maybe but wee need to stay within our FFP budget and signing Rooney may just hamper the signing of a younger player in his prime.

{Ed025's Note - im with you mate..

I want us to go all out for Dembele to be honest - he's the one that excites me. Him and Sandro could be amazing.

would be great that tadpole and wouldn't mind an own goal in the 90th minute to beat that lot just as long as we beat them, an cheers for reply ed.

On a commercial and dressing room point of view Rooney is a good option of course he's not the dynamic goal machine he was but brings so much more.
I would love to see Dolberg sign he looks very classy and a worker
Big C.

SA90 - Baines, Williams and Jags have a total of 1 trophy between them. That being when Swans won the League Cup.

Barry has won a couple, but for the youngsters to learn from Rooney is a different ball game altogether.

I am personally not bothered whether we get him or not, there are pros and cons to both outcomes. What I do like is the fact we are in a position to say whether we "want" him, rather than "need" him.

Still can't get over the fact we have signed 5 players before the first week of the window has passed.

If we can get Sig that would literally be the cherry on top for me, he was the number 1 player i wanted us to get before the window/ buying started.

Does anybody know of any decent strikers we can get in, that are within the realms of possibility and going to elevate us?

Agree 100% with Ed. Rooney is the past and as great as he has been, and he has, we should continue to build for the near future and beyond. Target players in the 22-26 age range who can make a difference over a number of years.

I think a big signing will be coming soon too, also Chicquarito is available for 13 million, no brainer that, once Lukaku goes use the money for Dembele and Chicquarito.

I'm also of the mind that I wouldn't be too upset either way. If it was a choice between Sig or Rooney, I'd take Sig. But both would be good - we get to be greedy now boys!

{Ed025's Note - greed is good tadpole.. :)

I agree with ed that rooney resigning would be a big mistake his best days are well and truly behind. I think like every everton fan I want to see us sign gylfi even if it took up 40 mil or more but that doesn't mean Swansea are going to sell unfortunately. If lukaku dose finally leave that would mean us needing to look for 2 strikers to replace him in my opinion I think the giroud would be great signing as he would have proven premier experience and as for the second striker I am not to sure about think gray and king might not be good enough to to push to champions league places but if koeman and Walsh think there good enough then that's fine by me.

{Ed025's Note - gylfi would be the player i want as well duke..

Spot on JMW

Rooney would be an excellent addition because he is a winner. He won't get into our starting 11 but will add a lot off the pitch. I think a 1 year loan suits all parties.

The only player in our squad to have won more than 2 major trophies is Funes Mori (Copa Libertadores, Copa Sudamericana, Argentine Championship) .

Beyond that we have 4 FA Cup winners (Joel, Jimmy Mac, Barry, Morgan) , 2 League Cup winners (Williams, Lennon) , 1 Premier League medal (Barry) and then a few trophies from Greece (Kev) , Belgium (Rom) and Holland (Stek)

Rooney has the around same number of winning medals from major trophies as the whole of our squad combined (5 Premier League, 1 FA Cup, 3 League Cup, 1 Champions League, 1 Europa League, 1 Club World Cup) .

As much as I want to break into top 6, we need to start winning trophies, and Rooney gives us a better chance of doing this.

Its like your Mrs walking out on you because the other fella is richer and more successful than you, then years later when he doesn't want her anymore you take her back because she is abit wiser and can help the kids!
Sentiment aside, Wayne is not what he was and that's why United want rid, we should be setting our sights on overtaking United so therefore not take there cast offs, that was what we needed to do in the past, Gibson, Neville, Cleverly, that was the Everton of then, the new look Everton of today wants bigger and better because remember, Nil Satis Nisi Optimum, Nothing but the best is good enough.

Rooney has got more trophys than all our squad put together eh? Well Geoff Hurst has a world cup winners medal but we don't want to sign him do we? Past achievements don't win upcoming games!

04 Jul 2017 13:41:38
brian you're right, past achievements don't win upcoming games. But a winning mentality does. And instilling it in our young team what it means to win, and the sacrifices it takes will win us trophies in upcoming years.

Even if Rooney plays 5 games all season I think he's a worthwhile signing. A winning mentality is a major piece missing from our squad and even our new signings so far (even though they've all been quality! ) .

04 Jul 2017 15:09:01
I always remember signing Phil Neville not the best player we have signed but he had a winning mentality that spread throughout the team that's what Rooney would bring and anyone saying he is passed it needs to take their heads for a wobble he needs a new challenge and moving to us could just give him a new lease of life.

I'm of the view we should sign him. I think that whenever he plays, he will put in a solid shift, and i think its safe to say he will score 10+ goals in a season which is something we need. Apart from Rom, no other player came close to double figures and that's something we really need to address.

I wholly understand the cons about signing him too, its a very split opinion for so many reasons. Maybe I'll say instead that i'm in the middle ground, if we sign him i believe he will be a benefit and I'll be a happy bunny. But if we don't sign him its not something I'll be overly fussed about, i won't look back mid season regretting we missed out. Does that make any sense?

198 Premier League goals and 101 Premier League assists.

The biggest club in the world (arguably) - top scorer of all time.

England national teams top scorer of all time.

Hahahahah I know everyone is entitled to an opinion, but Jesus Christ!

You are telling me that it was ok a matter of months ago to bring on the likes of Kone, DCL, Valencia, but you wouldn't want to bring the above on to pull something out of the bag.

How do you know he isn't dying to go someway to repaying us for leaving. Which don't get me wrong broke my heart, but he went to go an play under the greatest manager ever at one of the biggest club ever and win everything there is to win in football.

He achieved all that, and secured his families futures for generations. How can you knock him for that.

You telling me you wouldn't leave your job to go and earn 300k a week . yeah alright.
