There I was sitting in the Clients big office as the VP forcibly used his hands and eye contact to put his view of the future squarely before me. The need for change was immediate and a report of substance was required for board presentation. As a VP myself, I took this ticking off in good measure. After all, his anger was not directed at me. What then, I asked, do you mean when you say the need for substance but without the detail? Detail, I carried on, is the very devil of life. He leaned back, took out a piece of paper, folded it and said, "its an empty sheet. Forget all before and make me believe that you can make a change". Now you are me. This is serious money. I am talking about $2.5B over 6 years. Just like a big footie club like EFC
What's really going on your blank piece of paper?
Not to throw the baby out with the bathwater?
Tinkering here or there?
The big buy?
Bill's been at the head of things for a time now. He knows the score. We need some element of knowledge transfer and a succession plan to propel us into a better future. We are slipping off the finance league for top clubs (we are now 43rd, slipping from the worlds top 20). Decline is there. It is inevitable without change. It needs management action. That damned blank piece of paper again!

What would you suggest Torontotoffeman. What you are saying here is you have a blank white piece of paper. You haven't put anything on it.

What Bill and the men in power are saying is we need a new stadium. That is what they are proposing to move us forward. Every finance person who has talked about us getting a new investor/owner and for the club to move forward is a new stadium.

Don't forget though a general manager is a world apart from being a chairman.

We will never move forward as a club without a new stadium being built. What are the current board or investors doing to make it happen? Like him or not I would like a owner like Abramovich- football is about winning trophies, something we have not seen in too long.

So, the blank piece of paper- it will stay blank until this a stadium is built and we will never move forward as a club.

Clubs like West Ham who get the Olympic stadium- it's frustrating.
