Lets not over react to a bad result just as we shouldn't over react to getting a draw against Chelsea when we defend for 85 mins.

We are a work in progress and will continue to be for quite a while yet. Allardyce might not be the long term answer or he may well be. Today doesn't answer the question negatively any more clearly than the game against Chelsea provided a positive answer.

He has been given an 18 month contract and effectively a 6 month audition process. let's see where we are in the summer and we should expect some ups and downs until then.

toffeebuds we will be where we are now midtable and it's hard watching that as I mentioned before it wasn't until the 32nd min that the premierships bottom teams gk touched the ball I will go as far to say we are the worst footballing side in the premier league.

I wanted Sam to show us today his attackin tactics but on the pitch you can see the team doesn’t train in attacking play itvlooks like all the focus is on defending and relying on luck nsnatchba goal late on I am afraid I an only see his going one way knowing us Everton fans and It won’t end well for big Sam. He might even “retire” at the end of the season with the amount of stick which will probably come his way we are thankful he sorted the mess out when he came on board but I cannot see him taking us further than we have been in the past. You have to use tactics to Suit each game as they come not defend till half time hoping for 0-0 ten snatch a late goal.

I am not a fan of Allardyce and remain sceptical about his long term suitability but come on that was the first game where he genuinely tried to play with some attacking style and show some ambition. Yes it wasnt good but It has come during an intense run of games where time on the training pitch is limited, some of our key attacking players are knackered/ returning from injury/ illness, we still have some glaring holes in the squad and we still have players who are struggling for confidence with the ball. Defending for 80 minutes and getting a 0-0 draw doesn't help to create confidence with the ball, it will take time.

If what we saw today is being served up against WBA at home in a month then I will be extremely worried. if it is being served up in April then I will be expecting Allardyce to be packing his bags in the summer but it isn't far off what I would expect in the first game where we try to be more ambitious.

Lets not forget it was also away where we have been truly dreadfull for a long time.
