Now that Besic's confirmed and Henen is imminent, I'm guessing we can expect 2 strikers and a winger (Possibly Lukaku, Traore and the Swedish winger Naboui. I can't see Chelsea letting us have Lukaku AND Atsu) plus a couple of deadline day loans. Wonder what happened to the Galloway deal?

I popped out to buy a 15-20 goal a season striker this morning. Oh no, hang on, I didn't, because it's REALLY DIFFICULT, unless you have around £20 million plus wages in your back pocket and a Champion's League place. Which is why, if Lukaku comes on a permanent move, if will be something close to a miracle. I still think Bony is a possibility, but there seems to be no real indication that we are seriously interested in him. But if not Lukaku or Bony, who else? I'd love to know what people think.

Whatever happens with those two, I don't think there is any need for panic. The transfer window isn't a two-month long trolley dash where you mindlessly grab whatever's on the shelves (okay, it is if you're Tottenham era Harry Redknapp). RM will have strategies, alternatives, possibles, probables and plans A to Z because that is his job.

If we assume that 'proven' (in the Premier League) strikers like Lukaku and Bony are more likely to join a club in the Champion's League, then which strikers should we be looking at?

A few years ago, Villa struck lucky with Benteke, Swansea clearly got it right with Bony, but for clubs outside the Champion's League places, it's a question of whether you take a risk or not. and for every Lukaku and Bony, there's an Andy Carroll and a Kostas Mitroglou. To me, the likes of Demba Ba is the Safe-Pair-Of-Feet option. He'll get SOME goals, but he isn't going to fire us to the Champion's League.

I'm interested to know who people think might be the exciting but affordable up-and-coming option. Lacazette, maybe? Or will we be lucky enough to find that our next great striker is already in our junior ranks?

1.) I'll be intrigued to see, when he gets an opportunity, how Conor McAleny handles the role of centre-forward (for want of a term) in the 4-2-3-1 (or 4-3-3 and maybe even 3-4-3) formations that RM favours.
The player in that role not only has to work across the entire front-line, holding up the ball, running the channels, bringing others into play (all of which require strength, stamina, technical skill, tactical discipline and hard work), but must also contribute a major share of the team's goals (at least 15 a season I'd say) and therefore be a clinical finisher that gets plenty of efforts on target. A tall order for any footballer - which is clearly why the best forwards (strikers) are costing massive transfer fees and earn huge money.

{Ed025's Note - fair points there sid..

The question players like Lukaku and bony have to ask is that if they join a 'top 4 or CL club' then will they be first choce and or how much game time will they get, look at most strikers tthat go to chelsea spend so much time bench warming! We have euro football and either of them would get plent of game time!

Chelsea won't get £30m for Lukaku and they know it. They didn't pay much more than that for Diego Costa, who helped Atletico win La Liga and got them to the CL final.

I believe £30m is what they call a negotiating position. They demand £30m. We offer £24m. They say ok. Lukaku signs for Everton.
