Saturday - Ross Barkley's passion going nowhere. Sign him up and give the lad the armband!
Michael Keane - Sign him up
Saturday - Goalkeeper=evident issue - can't stress enough, sign Jack Butland at whatever cost.
Finally, we shouldn't be resigned to losing Rom, he has a contract for another 2 seasons make him stay one more season. In order to make champions league next season we need him!

Blue Ol

1.) 18 Apr 2017 14:12:04
Exactly what i said last week. If he goes it is on our terms - ie £100m or thereabouts.

His value may drop somewhat by end of next season but if we get UCL then maybe he stays. And if he doesn't the asking price will still be in the region of what Chelsea are apparently talking about now (or at least the media is)

2.) 18 Apr 2017 15:08:13
It is just a starting point for negotiations. we will probably end up with about £70 million. After all, it is a game.

3.) 18 Apr 2017 20:19:18
It may be just a game to you but to a lot of blues it's a lot more than a game and to me it is certainly not just a game.

{Ed025's Note - he means a game between the buyer and the seller i suspect OL and hes right, its a game where the buyer wants to pay as little as possible and the seller is trying to get as much as he can, i also think milomj is just about spot on with his guess on the final price mate..

10 Aug 2016 22:40:55
Jagielka has been a great servant to our club, but I do think now is possibly the right time for him to leave if we want to move up a level. I believe the signing of Kone maybe a good one, Walsh knows Ligue 1 very well and it was only 8 months ago he was playing for Lorient so he probably knows the player well. I do hope however that Barkley is given the captaincy if Jags does leave, I think it would be the making of the lad the same way it was Gerrard at the red s

Blue Ol

{Ed025's Note - i think jags will move on OL, but as for ross being the captain its a bit too soon for me mate...

1.) 10 Aug 2016 22:52:41
We have just signed a born leader which Koeman stated too, there is only one person who should be Captain for the next 4 years, maybe Ross then once he has learnt off AW

Also I think Jags is off as part of the Kone deal, great servant but to improve sacrifices need to be made.

2.) 10 Aug 2016 23:51:37
I personally think we should keep hold of Jags, but I think I'm just very attached to him as a player.

I like your thinking with Ross, and the point about Gerrard is valid, but I feel that one of Ross' biggest failings is his lack of mental strength (collapses under pressure (from the occasion, or his own fans) . Think their is a captain in there, but agree with Ed that he's a few years away and Williams is definitely ideal for the role in the meantime.

3.) 11 Aug 2016 00:13:21
Ross is definitely too young and too quiet a lad to be captain. The captaincy should go to Williams for me.

4.) 11 Aug 2016 00:35:13
Barry this year Williams next.

5.) 11 Aug 2016 04:48:46
What about Coleman for Captain he seemed very passionate on the pitch through the preseason games not afraid to be heard and at a nice age to take on a big responsibility and will only improve him as a player.

{Ed001's Note - surely Williams is the new captain? He is an excellent captain, one of the best around.}

6.) 11 Aug 2016 08:15:03
Williams nailed on for me surely his leadership qualities were a massive factor in signing him, the one thing we have lacked for a few year's now.

7.) 11 Aug 2016 09:45:35
If Jags goes we have lost 3 stalwarts from the club. Every club needs there heartbeat Jags Ozzie and hibbo were ours. And you can't buy loyalty.

8.) 11 Aug 2016 11:13:13
Hibbo was a stalwart if a stalwart is being paid for years for doing nothing then moaning about it, sorry take time to forgive him for that from me

Spot on Ed1 with the Ashley Williams as a Captain, that's what Koeman will certainly do and I hope he does, Jags is no Captain, ask Mirallas and Baines when they were embarrassing themselves over the penalty.

9.) 11 Aug 2016 12:38:06
Hibbo totally ruined his relationship with the fans with that outburst 3 years he drew a VERY good wage for going fishing and that's about it it's not like he's on the bones of his arse with the electric meter beeping is it? .

10.) 11 Aug 2016 16:18:12
Wooly, think your words "VERY" good wage are an understatement mate, he was probably on an average prem players wage so Id say 30k a week, £15 per hour is a very good wage, 30k a week is ridiculous for fishing :)

11.) 11 Aug 2016 17:26:52
Surprised people are so keen to get rid of Jags. Still think he is a solid defender and, although possibly not a first choice starter for the season given his age, I reckon he still has a lot to offer the team as far as experience is concerned.

12.) 11 Aug 2016 21:22:14
Barkley captain? You been smoking something? Doesn't know what he's doing himself let alone captain a team.

13.) 11 Aug 2016 23:30:44
If Barkley got captaincy my 22 year stint as a season ticket holder would be over. A captain has to have a brain and a football brain, Barkley has neither. He shouldn't be anywhere near the first team if we can get bolasie and mata over the line never mind given the armband.

Whether jags stays or goes Williams should be captain. Jags is a "wishy washy captain" in the words of one of the players to me. He needs to just play his own game. Williams would be a class act.

14.) 12 Aug 2016 12:13:06
Can't understand why some fans give Barkley stick. You'd swear he personally done something on them they way they talk about him sometimes.

15.) 12 Aug 2016 21:07:36
Only a minority NBTB. THE Gladwys Street Mob mainly. The same ones who gave Howard stick, granted he was nearing the end but to be abused by your own 'supporters' was out of order. I had a season ticket for 14 years in the street end and moved to the upper bullens because of the atmosphere, was poisonous at times. As I said though, a minority, not tarnishing all with the same brush.

05 Aug 2016 22:41:27
Looks like we may sign Wilfred Bony, would take him at the drop of a hat as a replacement for Lukaku but would want us to buy another striker as well! COYB.

Blue Ol

1.) 06 Aug 2016 01:24:00
Lukaku is going nowhere and I can't see two similar players fitting into RKs plans. Though I may be wrong.

2.) 06 Aug 2016 08:44:01
Stevie mate agree with you to a certain degree but do think that bony holds the ball up a lot better than ROM but ROM is better running in behind the defence with his pace I think if we sign bony he would be a good fit for are club and would guarantee us goals he wasn't given much of a chance with city.

3.) 06 Aug 2016 10:32:18
It's in the papers that we are going to accept citeh deal and take money plus bony who is valued at 15. Sooooooo 35m plus bony ain't bad.
Also wax supposedly seen in Liverpool yesterday driving around, there's pics and on the net that were having talks.
This one could be true.

4.) 06 Aug 2016 11:05:59
Have to agree with Duke75. Bony is a target man and Lukaku will run the channels if Bony comes in.

5.) 06 Aug 2016 11:09:46
Just because bony seen in Liverpool doesn't mean he is in talks with us remember stones was in Manchester city centre the other day but he wasn't in talks with city it sound like just paper talk to me it's been quiet on the stones front or last few days so there just re running an old stories to sell papers.

{Ed002's Note - I was in Bristol last week but both clubs have seemingly missed out on me - regardless of what Twitter says.}

6.) 06 Aug 2016 11:53:36
Doubt they could afford your wages anyway ed.

7.) 06 Aug 2016 12:31:32
They're loss ed002 so don't be worrying.

8.) 06 Aug 2016 13:11:51
Bristol! They're the T*ts.

9.) 06 Aug 2016 13:15:26
Bony was in Liverpool to do the Beatles tour. Saw him on the open topped bus and then in Macdonalds near Liverpool One, where he had a cheeseburger and fries. and a diet coke!

19 Jun 2016 00:19:00
Read a newspaper story saying we are linked with Schneiderlin. Probably just paper talk but would be a great player to sign as a replacement for Gazza Bazza imo.

Blue Ol

1.) 19 Jun 2016 08:21:08
Ol mate schneidelin would be a great signing for us plus Ronnie knows him well and got the best out of him at the Southampton.

2.) 19 Jun 2016 12:25:13
It seems to me we are being linked with anyone who is either a) Dutch or b) has played for Koeman in the past. fear it is all just paper talk, and none of these players will actually join.

3.) 19 Jun 2016 12:19:59
dont rate him. don't want him been crap at man utd and ok at saints but nothing special would be well pissed if we got him.

4.) 19 Jun 2016 18:41:20
I like it when a narrative is constructed to fit!

RoKo managed Morgan for one season and did not get the best out of him. That was MoPo.
Morgan left Saints and one of the major reasons was he was under pressure to be playing European football to make and keep his place in the French national side. Woy has been rumoured to have made the same comments to Saints players.

So, now it seems he has to join RoKo at the Toffees!

I think that this is one that is easy to discount.

16 Jun 2016 17:05:42
What is the likelihood of us signing Strootman Ed?

Blue Ol

{Ed002's Note - I cannot sensibly predict the likelihood of Everton signing Kevin Strootman but I can give you an opinion on the matter. Roma would love Everton to spend some of their English Pounds on a player who has missed nearly 100 games in the past three seasons due to major knee probles and recoverey from knee operations. Unless his injury clears up to where he can at least pass a medical even if he cannot prove his return to form he would be a very high risk investment for the buying club.}

1.) 16 Jun 2016 19:01:49
I think he would be a huge risk and I can't see Moshiri sanctioning such a risk not for £30m as touted about.

2.) 16 Jun 2016 19:17:07
I did buy him on football manager a few years back and he was amazing! i hope this has helped? I also bought lukaku when he was 17 if that's a help? Fingers crossed we don't do a qpr an buy utter tosh!

3.) 16 Jun 2016 20:12:02
We were stupid enough to buy an unfit niasse who looks nothing like a premier league player. So could we make a mistake again? Maybe.

But on the other hand the staff we are bringing should hopefully eradicate mistakes like this in the future.

4.) 16 Jun 2016 21:00:47
You can't be giving ed stick for Everton being stupid! We bought niasse Koneweve give a new contract to Gibson so he right in suggestion we would be stupid to waste 30million on a player like strootman and do t forget everyone has there own opinions and I think everyone will lay off about the strongman rumours now he's. Clever fella that ed002.

5.) 16 Jun 2016 22:49:22
I recall we signed a player from Bolton. knees gone and effectively finished so they said, his name was Peter Reid.

6.) 17 Jun 2016 14:20:35
Agree with Ed 002 why take a risk on somone for 30 million with a terrible injury recor like Strootman?

7.) 17 Jun 2016 15:11:26
Surely then the key is not to waste £30million on him and structure a deal that takes into account his previous injury record. Payments being determined by appearances and other trigger events. The real complication is that you will also need to make sure you have cover for such a player, so that you don't overplay him.

{Ed002's Note - And why would Roma be interested in that? And the wages will be through the roof. And he would be taking up a place in the squad. And you need to buy someone else as "cover".}

8.) 17 Jun 2016 20:39:14
I have to agree if we signed strootman it would be a massive risk. However i still think it would be a good signing for a few reasons.

1) he is quality and if he stays fit would massively improve our midfield.

2) he's well regarded in europe and if everton can attract a player of his quality others might also be tempted.

3) signing a player of his quality might be enough to persuade our stars to stay here.
The price tag is the major gamble.30mil is a lot of cash for most clubs especially us.

Personally think we should be targeting Riyad Mahrez, a lot of ability is work rate can be questioned but no doubt he is a game winner on his day and hopefully Ronny could get the best out of him!

This summer will tell me a lot about the ambition that Farhad Moshiri has for Everton Football Club. At the minute the club is looking fairly strong but will we kick on and sign Ross and Rom down to contracts and sign players who clubs around us are looking to sign and strengthen? We will see.

Blue Ol

1.) 29 Mar 2017 20:30:42
With all the ambition possible and with the best will in the world, Moshiri can't force players to sign contracts if they don't want to. Even if Rom and Ross left and no major names sign, it doesn't mean that we can't carry on building and improve over time. We have to have patience. We're not in the CL and it's a tall order for us to qualify in the next three years, so really top players with short careers are not going to see us as attractive yet. Let those who know what they're doing put their long-term plan into action without getting on their backs. The six clubs above us are still significantly richer than us and we have to spend hundreds of millions on a new stadium in addition to players' fees and wages. It's not going to be quick or easy but we're far better off than we have been for years. Let's just enjoy it.

28 Mar 2017 14:43:57
In the summer I can see Ross signing a long term deal and staying and Romelu signing a deal as rumoured based on our achievements with but out clauses involved and still being with us next season.
In the summer it's very obvious we need a GK&CB. I think in goal we should be 100% targeting Jack Butland and paying however much necessary to get him, top top goal keeper and still very young.
Centre half there is a few more options, Michael Keane the obvious one, Ben Gibson been linked before but I don't think he is of top top quality and a long shot Van Dijk who I think we should be realistically targeting if we want to go where Romelu wants to go and make Champions League and be established there.
Many may laugh but I also think we should have a go at getting Martial or Mahrez cost around the 40 million mark but would help contribute to scoring goals and helping Rom out in that department
Oh and Gylf
I don't think we will realistically sign all of these players obviously but all should be targets.

Blue Ol

1.) 28 Mar 2017 14:56:07
I bet we have a list of players none of us have even ever heard of. Steve Walsh and his team seem to be good at picking gems up, as his track record proves.
He just had to be aware whether they can work with rk and in his style of play.

2.) 28 Mar 2017 19:54:10
I think it's a huge summer for us. We need to get some class players in to bridge that gap between us and the top teams, or we're in danger of doing the same old thing of stalling while our rivals become stronger. Not only that, but we need to tie our best players down with lengthier contracts.

I think we're all in agreement in saying that we need a new GK and a couple of CB's. I'd also hope we strengthen on the wings and add another striker. I'm sorry to say it but our wingers aren't good enough. I like Kev, I really do, and on his day he is brilliant but that day hardly ever comes around. As for the return of Deulofeu, I'm not holding out for much. I really like the look of that Brandt from Leverkusen but I have a feeling that teams mix bigger than us will be sniffing around him. Despite Valencia looking good when he comes off the bench, he's definitely not the answer. I know it's very optimistic but I'd hope we are looking at players of the same calibre of Lacazette or Icardi to play alongside Rom if he stays because it is these players who can take us to the next level.

Obviously if we don't get European football that will prove to be an obstacle in attracting the better players but whatever happens I have complete faith in Steve Walsh because he is a top class scout and place all my trust in our brilliant manager.

3.) 28 Mar 2017 19:58:13
For me the most important thing is keeping RK and SW.

I personally think Rom will stay another year beyond the summer because, if I ran the club, I'd have sat him and Ross down and said "we'll build the team around you, who do you want? ". Now we have the money to make that happen and I think both are waiting to see if we do it.

If RL scores against the lot over the park and we win, imagine the volume that his name will be sung at. If he leaves for a CL club he may not play every game so the question is does he want to be a bit part in a "big team" or a legend in a legendary team.

21 Mar 2017 08:15:48
If Lukaku moves in the summer or not we need another top class centre forward if we're going to be playing on a Thursday night in Russia. Would fork out a lot of money to sign Rashford! If he was foreign like Mbappe people would be all over him, I'd offer 30-40 million easy his actual play is class!

Blue Ol

1.) 21 Mar 2017 10:56:16
Not a chance of getting him. Utd don't need money, they need quality players. He is quality and they know it.

2.) 21 Mar 2017 19:38:55
Degsy he is class but so is rom an I've been told they was rom so chuck rom to them an get rashford plus some cash sounds like a good deal to my.

3.) 22 Mar 2017 09:30:47
Sounds like an idea worth exploring. However, my gut feel tells me that United are trying to rebuild in the same manner as ourselves. But they have a lot more dosh and a lot more "recent" Champions League history. A great young player like Rashford is likely tobe part of their plans. Whereas an ageing Rooney might be considered assurplus to requirements.

20 Dec 2016 04:57:45
In January I think a GK is just a necessity, please be Butland. Centre half, be happy if we went back for Koulilbaly or went for Van Dijk. However at a lesser cost would be very happy signing Michael Keane. And somebody to replace Barry - Schneiderlin looking most likely. Would be delighted if we signed Memphis Depay also great ability. What is the the likelihood of these signings?

Blue Ol

1.) 20 Dec 2016 05:46:02
Forget about how much a transfer might cost - it's all Monopoly money these days. Also, the club is subject to strict financial rules about nett spending versus income and about how much overall wages can increase.
The key questions are: can we at present attract the players that RK/ SW would want; will these players prove to be an improvement; and are there other clubs who'll take the players that RK doesn't want .
Some of the names being touted seem possible to me, but many of them are unrealistic for a club like Everton at present (no European gootball, not regular challengers for top six, no trophy for 20+ years) .
Whoever comes and goes in the next couple of transfer windows, you can be sure opinions will be split every which way amongst Evertonians,

2.) 20 Dec 2016 07:10:22
Spot on Sid it is certainly a catch 22 situation. My take on last night, yes loads of effort first half, Lennon was not terrible as some have said, for Rom to cause havoc he needs the support, Funes has a problem with reaction like a rabbit in headlights at times. To play RK's style of play the Team not only have to be supremely fit but also have to have an average lower age because it is not just the stamina we all have that in our mid 30's, it is the speed and need to react and that certainly goes quickly.

3.) 20 Dec 2016 09:35:34
Its a hard one for defenders they need experience but keeping your reaction time sup as you age is really difficult. A lot of the pundits say attackers react quicker than defenders but don't really acknowledge its a lot easier to keep running in the same direction than turn and sprint from a standing start. we were just unlucky.

{Ed001's Note - the point is that defenders should also be running back looking to clear rebounds, but they very rarely do as defensive mentality is very rarely coached. You only have to look at how many players fail to do basics, such as getting goal side of a player before making a challenge, to see how poor the level of defensive coaching is. George Graham would sort out those kind of issues immediately.}
