I have seen a rumour linking us to James Forrest? Really? And I get stick for hoping we go for Ryan Gauld. Well I'll tell you Gauld is 100 times the player Forest is already and he's only 17.

Oli Jennings

1.) I've said the same Oli. Ryan Gauld is quality. We should be first in the queue when the window opens.

Not posted for a while. Just to say how horrifically disappointed I was to read this morning that Sporting Lisbon had signed Ryan Gauld for £3m. I maintain he is the most talented player at his age I have ever seen from a stand and with a €60m buyout Sporting seem to think so too. this kid is destined and I'm absolutely gutted for that money it's not at Everton, I don't even know if we tried. Knowing us probably not. good luck to him tho.

Oli Jennings

1.) Oily we would rather give contracts to vetrans mate.

2.) 02 Jul 2014 22:25:04
All portugese teams do this, hulk had a 70m one, moutinho 55m for porto, benfica in the past, sporting lisbon have done it with capel etc, they sell for big, personally thought gauld was again, doing well in a poor league, players like max meyer and stuttgart have a 17 year old striker whose name excapes me are both much more talented than gauld and much further ahead in maturity and physically, not by any means trying to argue, I didn't watch him every week but whenever I did he seems quick and all but certainly doesn't suite the premier league, spain or portugal will be good for him

3.) 02 Jul 2014 23:55:06
So Hulk 70m, Moutinho 55m and Gauld 60m. So he's rated in the same bracket as them at 17. Not bad. As far as your analysis of Gauld as a player and the Stuttgart 17 year old 'whose name escapes' yet you think you know enough to declare he's much more talented: I disagree with every word. But not by any means trying to argue.

4.) 03 Jul 2014 01:45:38
Moving to England was never an option as Gauld himself has declared that he was interested in moving abroad. Not even worth arguing about boys, it was never going to happen. If he did intend to move to the EPL then the majority of teams would have been interested, not just us

5.) 03 Jul 2014 07:54:40
Timo werner, that's his name, roberto could give alcaraz a 1 billion buyout clause which rates him in the same bracket as messi of course? No of course not its just making sure if you do sell him, its not cheap, they won't get 60m for gauld, probably not half that, buyout clauses don't represent for a fact how good a player is, its just making sure that players are not cheap and as someone said, its pointless, he himself said he doesn't want to play in the premier league, robertson, souttar and gary mackay i'm always injured steven are other dundee talents we have 'looked at', just hope we get someone soon

Adrian Ramos just signed by Dortmund for little over 8m. This just shows the quality available out there for under 10m. Whilst we look to spend potentially double on the likes of Lukaku or Bony players like this get picked off for buttons. Just an observation, I don't know if we ever looked at him, but that's a good price.

Oli Jennings

1.) Drmic gone to Leverkrusen for £4.07 million. Look at Michu, £2 million. Certainly some bargains to be picked up. I've got faith in Bobby to sign some very good players to improve us. Think there might be a couple who we won't of even thought about.

2.) Give it a rest mate the season finished only yesterday a bit early to start panicking what other teams are doing.

3.) Get a bit more sleep tonight Mike, sounds like you could do with a good rest yourself

Shodkran Mustafi, the kid bought then sold by David Moyes without kicking a ball has just been picked for the preliminary Germany World Cup squad.

So, Utd field a reserve team for a dead game and everyone's raving at Ryan Giggs. Everton field strongest team possible, take City to the death but don't make quite enough noise and are branded cheats.

Oli Jennings

1.) 06 May 2014 20:50:46
i don't get it, everton and liverpool have played youngsters all season (barkley, stones, sterling, flanagan etc) and nothing is really said, giggs fields 2 youngsters in a game that means nothing and everyone is going 'bout time english youth got a chance' and 'credit giggs, someone finally has the guts to play english talents' or my favorite, 'english youth have been denied for so long, giggs hopefully opening the door for more managers to do this', just go away lineker, savage and all the others, no clue

2.) Oli, as a red, I thought your players gave their all against City. The atmosphere was very subdued though. Not here to discuss that however, more to agree with Swan. As a club, we field 6 English players, and personally I think Flanagan should get a call up to the squad, he has been one of our most consistent players this season. Same for Stones, he looks like he could be a great centre half in years to come. Yet, we NEVER get credit for it. Liverpool, Everton and Southampton and Arsenal are the best teams in the league for the national squad.

{Ed025's Note - no argument from me OLR mate..

3.) Good post OLR, you're right about our youngsters. The reality is that man u will always be favoured. So better ignoring the media man u lovers and just read Swans post match review instead. And I'm sure if you ask him nicely he'll pop across to yours and review your team too ;)

4.) I think Flanagan would be a good shout for the england squad, if he bases it on form as he said he would then he should go, can play lb and. RB too

5.) Wrong about it being subdued tho, it was a great atmospher from start to finish and the crowd really played their part,

Ed, any reason why my post regarding comments made by Skys disgusting commentary team about our supporters was pulled?

Oli Jennings

{Ed025's Note - i have not been on much today oli, some other ed will have dealt with it, have a look on the "other posts" page..or the "dodgy posts" page, and if not, if you re-post it i will look at it mate..

1.) Yeah it's there sorry Ed. Probs best place for it actually. Cheers

{Ed025's Note - no probs oli..

2.) It's in the other posts mate. Don't think I've ever agreed more with a post. Did we roll over and lose 5-0!

lfcste don't get yourself too worked up about Swan and his opinions on player ability. Just reading the take on Lallana and then the 'good old online viewing' of Emre just made me cringe. You have a pair of top players there.

Bit of insight.

A players buyout clause is what it is. A buyout clause. If you match the buyout as stated in the players contract, the selling club is powerless to stop the transfer. But all stipulations must be met. For example, the majority of transfer fees are paid in instalments. So when you see player X move for 15m that will often be paid in set amounts over a period of time. It could be monthly, quarterly, annually for a sustained period. What this does is it lowers the initial expenditure. You could have 15m transfer cash sat in the bank but buy 3 10m rated players paying 5m up front for each and rest in negotiated instalments provided you have assets and can prove your income will be sufficient to pay the rest off in the time stipulated. Accountants & lawyers will be used by both sides for due diligence.

Problem with a buyout is that it often states it must be paid in a lump sum up front. So 8m would mean 8m cash now. Doesn't mean 4m now and 4m over time. Clubs will always offer this sort of deal first and it will be a game of negotiation until some sort of compromise is met. In the case of Remy there will be high demand, so whoever offers the 8m up front will trigger it and QPR are powerless. Then it's up to the player. He can only speak to a club when the buyout is triggered. Officially, he is forbidden to talk until then (although this rule is broken almost every transfer).

To sum it up, we could offer 8m for Remy up front, trigger the buyout and try and convince him to join. But remember, that 8m could be sufficient to buy a 15m rated player, paying the fee over time.

Glad I'm not the only one on here whose seen what he could become Davey. Don't think Dundee Utd will sell yet but him and Barkley would gel perfectly alongside each other. We are the perfect club for him, he's got ridiculous ability but his next team will define him. Under Martinez he could grow to become a world class attacking midfielder. Or he could stagnate in the U21s somewhere else. Or he could move to a CL club, play and not live up to the hype. Here he'd be protected and learn under one of the best modern man managers in the game.
