Can anyone tell me when one of our midfield players last scored and how many goals, in total, have come from midfield this season? Not many I think. By the way, I count Mirallas as a forward, not a midfield player!

{Ed025's Note - deffo not many pips..

We have scored 3 from midfield 1 for barkley osman and mcgeady. 6 from defence jags 2 coleman 2 baines 2. 22 from attack 7 lukaku 7 naismith 5 mirralas 3 eto. There must be 3 own goals in there to give us a grand total of 33. A big problem is we don't score goals from central midfield or create goals for that matter. Worryingly this is very similar to aston villa. I think there midfield only has 1 assist and no goals all season. And to think we may have cleverly from them next season. Frightening.

{Ed025's Note - it is sean...thanks for the info mate..

That would be Ross Barkley against QPR his only league goal to date and even that one is debatable.

This has probably been the quietest January transfer window for a long time and, all in all, I am happy with our dealings. Eto'o has gone but, in my opinion, he flattered to deceive. He was never going to be a regular starter and I think his contribution, during a very difficult period, was minimal. Lennon, on the other hand, is an experienced Premier League player and I welcome him to our squad. In my view, we are stronger after the window, rather than weaker. We have good players who have underperformed this season. Interestingly, we have 15 games left. If we won all of them - highly unlikely - we would equal last season's points tally. On current standings, we'll do well do be in the top 10.

1.) Problem with letting Eto'o go is yet another goalscorer leaves and we sign yet another player (Lennon) who does not score. I understand Eto'o as disruptive, but RM ss to have a policy of letting players go who have chipped in with goals and then replaces them with players who average less than 1 goal per season. In my view this is a recipe for relegation. Besic, McCarthy, Barry, McGeady, Kone and now Lennon have all been brought in and score probably less than 8 goals a season on average between them. He let Anichebe, Fellaini and now Eto'o go who probably score 23 between them. Yes Lukaku was also brought in, but if you think Mirallas will probably go (another 8 to 10 a season), you can see why we need to play games the way we do at present. ie holding on to the ball as much as we can. Another factor is that Osman and Pienaar regularly chipped in and we have not replaced them. To rely on one player for the majority of goals is very risky if he loses form or gets injured (as happened earlier in the season). I can hear Swan groan as he reads this, but last season when I was suggesting this potential problem, he and others started to question my sanity. The proof is in the pudding. If Atsu progresses, then there is a possibility of goals there.but he is not even our player. Likewise if we sign that goalscoring machine, Tom Cleverly, then we will be ok I am sure. I also understand that our current tactics mean our 2 fullbacks have stopped scoring. Perhaps that's area that Lennon can help with? I certainly hope so.

2.) Yes degs but if matinez let eto go six months after we got him then he must of been upsetin the apple cart mate and you never no but lettin people like that go could be the turnin point in our season one way or another

3.) I always begin reading your posts degsy and wonder how long it takes you to mention osman! As good a servant he has been he is just that, a has been. We need to be looking forward not backwards and to mention Mccarthy and Besic as non scorers is irrelevant due to their position. They provide protection for the defence not support for the attack. I for one would rather see a midfield with them 2 in then one with osman and pienaar! Pick your strongest side on ability and not with sentiment. I understand it's opinion but sometimes opinion needs sense.

4.) Shakey, I agree that Eto'o had to go. My post was aimed at saying we are signing a lot of players that score very few goals.

We've lost our shape and look ragged. Absolutely no leadership on the pitch, everyone just going through the motions.

Despite all the excitement of last week's signings, I am worried on two counts. 1. We haven't increased the size or quality of the starting line-up - Barry and Lukaku were already there and we've added Bescic instead of Delafeou. 2. The quality of our pre-season preparation seems to be poor. Going to Thailand to play Leicester was clearly a commercial rather than a football decision. Meanwhile, all the four teams who finished above us last season are in the US taking part in a top class tournament. I think we need to bring in another 2 or 3 top quality players but that would now seem unlikely. Anyone else concerned?

1.) Arsenal were in fact in London. But regardless of that, I think towards the latter stages of the season, your squad will be grateful they weren't dragged along to several foreign games like the other top teams

What is happening to our once great club? No leadership off the field - do we still have a Chief Executive, if so, where is he? A shanbles on the field and an irresponsible transfer policy. Irrespective of whether Stones goes or stays, we lost two experienced centre halfs at the end of last season and, three months later, we haven't replaced either of them. A complete shambles.

Possibly Andy Rankin for Everton. Ray Clemence is not a scouser - he signed from Scunthorpe!

We are all over the place. Why is Eto'O playing wide left? We are a walk-over for other poor teams.
