If we can get in Mina and Zouma at the back along with Keane and Holgate, jags would be back of the line but be a good influence around the place as a senior pro. Coleman/ Kenny, Digne/ Baines.
Striking options look exciting Richarlson, Walcott, Lookman, Bernard, Sigurdson/ Dowell.

Midfield is the interesting one and splits opinions straight away with Schneiderlin. I think we could play with both together away from home with one CAM but at home just play one of them with two CAM. Is Banigime ready as a reserve? Besic looks like he’s going, where does Davies fit in? McCarthy is a player once fit do we give him a chance or cut our losses? And bring in N’Diaye or Drinkwater? Thoughts blues?

Robbie

1.) 09 Aug 2018 11:12:58
I don't think Jags will be back of the line. I think he will get more game time due to his PL experience. If he gets a decent rest between matches I can see him starting more than most expect.

2.) 09 Aug 2018 11:19:27
Mina and zouma would be great additions but can't see the mina deal happening I really hope I am wrong thought we do need strengthening there with Keane looking unconvincing jags best days behind him and holgate who Marco rates a lot but still not full match fit having been injured in pre season as for midfield banigime is injured but I do rate him think he a star in the making Marco is al so a fan of another young defensive mid in Williams but again he's injured so one of Danny drinkwater or ndiaye would be most welcome addition as schniderlin still looks unimpressive during pre season but are attacking options looking a lot more impressive if we get Bernard over the line.

3.) 09 Aug 2018 11:37:29
SKY Sports are saying Mina having his Everton in Spain now

Keep those fingers crossed.

4.) 09 Aug 2018 11:44:31
Everton medical.

06 Aug 2018 22:42:49
If we can get Mina, N’Diaye or Nzonzi and Welbeck in and sell Besic, Vlasic and Bolasie I think it would be exciting times. Not that I don’t like Besic or Bolasie just think overall to balance the team out it would be best. Loan out Banigime. We would have 2 players for each position.

Robbie

1.) 07 Aug 2018 02:44:09
Mina looks to go to the wire if true that he was included as part of this Pogba swap deal
Losing my nails here.

2.) 07 Aug 2018 06:35:24
Transfer window looking exciting for Everton at the moment. Just hope that the players gel well together. Look what happened last year! . Couple of centre halves has to be the priority now?

{Ed025's Note - if we get 1 i would be happy lemur, we cant address all our problems in just one window and we have to be realistic that this is not a quick fix and we will have to be patient and give marco and marcel time mate..

3.) 07 Aug 2018 09:29:53
They are doing a pretty good so far ed, if we get Bernard over the line, only need a couple of cbs and we are not far off from fixing things.

{Ed025's Note - buying them is one thing smeg, integrating them into the side and then turning that side into a performing team unit is another mate, the signs are looking very promising i agree but lets not get ahead of ourselves mate..

4.) 07 Aug 2018 10:53:19
It's getting them over the line, I do believe we will get mina, I don't think we would be going so close to the wire if we didn't have a chance, Bernard is a good player, if he signs I will be happy but if not, I won't be to concerned, we have enough cover, I'd like to see smalling or cahill on loan as well, think Mina and smalling would be a good pairing, both tall and a threat in the box.

26 Jul 2018 15:23:37
I think if we can get Digne and Mina both signed along with Richarlson it shows a massive step in the right direction that DOF and manager getting their targets and in a professional manner. Looks like we are doing the right things at the moment and gives lots of optimism for the future.

Robbie

1.) 26 Jul 2018 17:20:57
Robbie it seems like Barcelona want to insert a buy back clause in any deal for mina bit similar to what they had with del boy not too keen on any buy back option involved in any potential deal for mina as Barcelona would come out winners in this and not us.

{Ed002's Note - Without a buy back option his price goes up. It is common practivce for certain clubs and is rarely invoked - and the player doesn't need to say yes.}

03 Jul 2018 09:12:24
Adnan Januzaj and Andre Schurrle are two players that showed promise in England then seemed to lose their way.
Any chance of them returning to premier league sometimes players are stronger after the experience?

I see usmanov rumours starting again. There must be something in this as it’s always raising its head. No smoke without fire. We have over £100m to spend with our new Brand.
I think then our new coach whoever it is can concentrate on coaching.

No hard evidence yet, just speculation.

Does anyone know how far away James McCarthy is from being fit? Will be interesting to see if he has a role to play?

Robbie

1.) 14 Aug 2018 18:23:10
I read December. And frankly he isn't good enough. Sure the old debate because he gives everything but he's still just not good enough. I can see him heading off next summer.

2.) 14 Aug 2018 18:44:16
myteamsbetter are u for real mate? he is our best all round cm when fit! walks into the team.

3.) 14 Aug 2018 19:45:46
He would limp into the team, but agree he is better than most we have.

4.) 14 Aug 2018 20:04:34
He might have to hop in Smit666! He is a half decent player but looked so much better when with Barry who was the classier of the two. I am hoping Shneids looks better now he has Richarlison one side, Walcott the other and Gueye to support him. Added to which, Tom Davies should be able to step up this season and I reckon Kieran Dowell is almost ready for some games.

5.) 14 Aug 2018 20:15:45
I'd also add that he is a combative midfielder who has no end product. A screamer every 24 months and a thuggish hatchet job when out of possession, of which he is reliable to give the ball away more than most too. An "all round midfielder" is just that. Goals, assists, defensive duties, free kicks, pens, creativity. I'd say he doesn't even get a mark on some of those categories.
That liverpool game has really cast him in a false light. We all loved it because no one else on the pitch looked like they have a monkies.

6.) 15 Aug 2018 00:01:11
And Kante is one of the best defensive mids in the league and provides, no assist, no goals, no free kicks and no penalties.
What is an all round midfielder?
You can't have 2 box to box midfielders in a team.

McCarthy plays the Gana role as good, if not better when he's fit.

7.) 15 Aug 2018 10:47:50
An all round midfielder must be like Roy of the Rovers. He can do everything better than everyone else on the pitch.

McCarthy is very good at what he does and I agree with Smit he’s probably the best defensive midfielder we have.

The broken leg he suffered was because of his commitment and reading of the game to cover defenders. Not too many midfielders in world football would be able to recover and make that last ditch tackle.

8.) 15 Aug 2018 16:45:36
Better than Gana? Hahahahajaja you are funny.

12 Aug 2018 22:43:55
Lots of positives. Jags will certainly be replaced now. Thought Walcott was pretty quiet. Everyone else put a shift in and we looked in control up to sending off and feel we would have won comfortably. Nice to see us press high even with 10 men and aggressive last season we would have got beaten 2-1. Didn’t think Schneiderlin played to bad but feel he’s everyone’s scapegoat. Onwards and upwards. Hopefully Richarlson not to badly injured.

Robbie

1.) 13 Aug 2018 08:50:58
schneiderlin top three players on the pitch mate.

2.) 13 Aug 2018 18:15:31
No he was not. Most of his passes are either sideways or backwards or put a teamate in trouble. I have confidence though that Silva will get him playing like his first season. He is not being made a scapegoat.

3.) 14 Aug 2018 09:54:15
No mate its just that fans are fickle and call him a scapegoat because he turns up occassionally and forget the times that he's ghosted it on the pitch, virtually leaving us a man down seemigly not giving a toss as he strolls around the pitch.

10 Jul 2018 21:02:01
If only Bobby brown shoes concentrated on set pieces.

Robbie

1.) 10 Jul 2018 21:35:46
Its still 0-0 if you only count “real” goals.

Parasite football.

Further to a few post below in general most agree we will reduce the squad, especially when we have a lot of youngsters coming through. Personally I would
sell/ release - Robles (needs games) , Martina, Williams, Jagielka, Rooney, Mirallas, Galloway, Browning, Garbutt.
Depending on how Silva will have us playing will we play 1 or 2 holding midfielders? Gueye, Schneiderlin, Besic, McCarthy, Banigime to many if only the one. I still think Schneiderlin is a quality player if managed correctly.
Bolasie I am a fan of and don’t think we have seen the true potential yet. I always love to watch a player that excites you and is one of the most skilful players in the league, what Silva will need to decide is can he play in his team and accommodate him. Maybe him and Lookman either side will make up for Cenk lack of mobility.
Our squad as a whole is so unbalanced it’s hard to believe it was allowed to get this way. We will need to let some players leave that are good but we are just overloaded with that position. Maybe Besic and McCarthy and Rooney and Klassen.

That leaves us looking for an understudy for GK.
x1 CB
x1LB
If anyone else is brought in then others will need to leave.
Starting XI
Pickford
Coleman
Keane
Holgate
New LB
Gueye
Schneiderlin
Sigurdson
Bolasie / Walcott
Lookman
Tosun

Subs
New GK
Kenny
New CB
Mori
Baines
Banigime
Davies
Vlasic
DCL
Ramirez

Some big decisions to make as depends on our style we will play. If Silva adopts the pressing style. Can Bolasie, Klassen, Tosun play this style?

Anyway my main point is Seamus Coleman to be our captain for the new look Everton.
What does everyone think our new style should be play 3 up with wide players or play two upfront. Have the current players got it in them to play the high press with good energy levels?

Robbie

1.) 31 May 2018 16:58:22
Coleman epitomises everything for me of what we are . he would be the perfect captain for me.

{Ed025's Note - me too steve..

I had a dream last night it was three years time a sunny August Saturday 3pm match. First game of the season I was walking to our new ground at BM dock with my kids. All of us with our new Everton tops on the excitement of all the blues around us as we approach the ground, everything is new and immaculate we take our new seats for the season and look pitch side at the lush new Wembley like pitch. Minutes before the teams come out and look at my kids faces with a beaming smile.

Zcars plays and we all stand up to give our players the greatest welcome as they come on to the pitch we get our first glimpse of our new summer signings. Then Sam Allardyce comes out the tunnel to take his seat in the home dugout I woke up in a cold sweat and haven’t had a nightmare like this before makes Fred Kruger like a Adam Sandler movie.

Wow just caught up with post from past couple of days and interesting to see opinions.

I can see what grumpy is saying Sam is like a fire man came in to install some discipline and he is a old fashioned manager. He will tell it straight like after the Arsenal game letting the players taking the responsibility. I don’t agree with everything Sam has done though.
The Garbutt situation.
Different CB pairings.
Lookman game time.
Comments Rooney and Gylfi can’t play in same team them play both?
Management of Klaasen.
Management of Sandro.

I like the fact Sam has identified the first team players are either to old or to young and looking at bringing in players in their prime (28) like Walcott.
My biggest concern for the summer is we need a clear out with the aging players.
I am unsure though if Sam is managing our youngsters and taking them out of the spotlight or is he going to be a Walter Smith and rather play experienced professionals like Schneiderlin.

Regardless if it’s Sam or a new Manager it’s going to be a lot of changes. Although frustrated and not a lover so far of Sams style of football. If he has the balls to get rid of those who aren’t pulling their weight or those who are surplus due to age and not being sentimental as they have given good service. If he can bring in replacements who are in the same category as Walcott to improve the first team and then have our youngsters ready to step in as replacements or push like Davies has shown then great.

I reserve judgement though and hope he doesn’t prevent our youngsters from progressing.
There is also no reason a new manager in the summer can’t do the above either as I would think Dof would be responsible for this.

If we are serious going forward we need to sign these players to replace our ageing squad. Or the guy from Swansea or Leicester CB.

Or a buy back option like Barcelona? Not a bad thing to reduce the price with that clause, it’s like a bet and if I was a gambling man I would say Lookman will have a successful career and move on to better things he has all the attributes.

Schneiderlin could stay, he has quality and it’s ilto the manager to get him to perform like he can.
The rest are surplus, I like Bolasie when he’s on his game in fairness to him he returned from a lengthy injury.

The good thing is and I hope it continues that we do our business quietly until confirmed. Then announce it.

Same last season, I suppose we are at a similar stage as them wanting to make the next step up. Needing a higher calibre of player.
