I love us playing in europe and I know it has been difficult this year, but as a fan I want to see and follow us in europe. However if we get in via the fair play it is going to be a disaster for our preseason. Martinez even saying he won't be there to manage in one of the games because he is prioratising the singapore cup. So half our squad and manager will be in singapore and half our squad under another coach will be in the deepest darkest depths of eastern europe. let's hope we kick west ham off the pitch.

Anyone know much about lewis dunk plays cb for brighton see that we are linked to him along with west brom and west ham. Has scored 7 goals for them aswell. don't know how true this is just on the web. Also we have been linked with a player rafa silva plays in portugal anybody know anything of him?

Rafa plays for Braga, he is only 21 and meant to have the potential to be special. Haven't heard much about Dunk

Dunk could be a good gamble, he is captain now under Houghton and playing well in their improved form, aggressive the air, young and scores goals. I watch Brighton as family has a season ticket there. i'd take him probably only cost £2-4m max. next season Jags as experienced pro backed up by Stones, Dunk, Browning and Galloway = Good

Moyes interested in kone by all accounts. Would we let him go? Just an internet article don't know how true. Also states he is interested in salah from chelsea and would be happy to work with gerard.

Any news of new contracts for oviedo and garbutt both up in june

1.) I'd hate either of them to leave.
On the basis that our 25-man first-team squad should have two good players for every position, then two out of Baines, Oviedo and Garbutt will surely be the preferred left-backs and one of them might have to be used for another position (Oviedo wide left or Baines defensive midfield).
2.) Thanks ed. Yeah sid I would be gutted for either to leave. Oviedo was just getting a run when he got injured and garbutt looks like he could be a very good player in the next year or so. He also looks like he can take a decent corner unlike a lot of our players.

Ed do you know anything about these coleman rumours that are going round. If he went to chelsea could a swap deal including someone like salah be on the table. Also with petr cech onthe bench could we negotiate a deal including him although wages would probably be a massive issue.
{Ed025's Note - they are just rumours as far as i am aware sean, martinez will be very reluctant to let him go, the press love to jump on these things when a side is struggling mate, cech will not be coming of that im sure, and with relations not great between chelsea and ourselves after the atsu debacle, i doubt we will be doing much business with them anytime soon, but thats just my take fella..

I wonder how it feels to join a club knowing that hardly any of the fans want you here and the fans of the 2 clubs you left behind are delighted you have gone. I suppose the 50k a week makes it a little easier. Cleverley is now on more money than mccarthy. Unbelievable.

Sorry if this is a long post. can't believe we have opened talks with cleverley. At the end of this season surely the management team sat down and looked back on what went wrong supposing that they think this season was rubbish. Lack of creativity in midfield perhaps a lack of service to lukaku maybe not enough goals from midfield. If a new centre mid is going to be bought surely it has to be a player who can ay a defence splitting pass and move the play forward. Signing cleverley is to sign another centre mid with limited passing range a lack of goals and who finished in a team who just avoided relegation. Not to mention that he had a shocker in the fa cup final. Either it is poor judgement by martinez or the fact that he is free and this fits well with the clubs ambitions. Next transfer target appears to be scott dann who in fairness has had a good season but I can't see him getting in ahead of jags or stones but would be a better replacement than alcaraz if not too much money wanted for him could be an okay signing but nothing to be excited over. Johnny evans and tyler blackett. Why why why. Why would we send galloway and browning out on loan and loan in blackett that would make no sense and is probably a load of rubbish as for johnny evans he again would be a better backup than alcaraz but would not want him coming to the club. Surely he must now look at the squad and see what we are missing. Even if we only brought in 3 players if they were the right 3 players they could make a huge difference. Sell kone or let him go and bring in austin or ings. Austin would cost 10 to 15 million. I would play him and lukaku upfront in a 442 probably a diamond midfield. immediately you have a strike force who can score 30 goals a season between them. With naismith coming off the bench we have options upfront and cover for injuries. Out wide will depend on if mirallas stays. If he stays although he is selfish and shoots his mouth off he does provide about 10 goals a season. If he stays I would sign lennon or delefeu. If he goes I would try and buy both. With mirallas austin lukaku and naismith there are goals in that team. I wouldn't mess too much with our defence a cover centre back probably is needed and although I didn't like the rumour about dann he may be an okay signing if not spectacular. The tactics have been the problem at the back and need addressing over the summer. Mccarthy would be my deep lying midfield in a diamond. The big decision is around barkley and whether he can play number 10 I would give him another season to prove how good he is with naismith being able to cover if he doent improve. I know some people don't think barkley will make it but I reckon he will come good my doubt is whether it will he with us or elsewhere. I suppose the decision on barkley will be made if and when a big offer comes in for him, if that bid is big enough then the money could be invested for a replacement number 10 and used to strengthen the squad. In goal I would give joel a chance with howard there if things don't work out and the chance to strengthen in january or next summer. In summer 16 pienaar osman gibson kone hibbert will all be out of contract and they will probably stay at the club next season and see out those contracts. Sad to say but it looks like garbutt is gone.

Glad this season is over now and hopefully we have more to cheer about next season. As fans we cannot expect every season to be great but the entertainment factor has been nil this season. 3 nil nil draws at home this season and 6 out of 19 games at home we haven't scored a goal. Overall 11 out of 38 games we haven't scored a goal. I was actually bored during the spurs game, granted we had nothing to play for, however the players should remember we have paid to be there. 2 new wingers and a centre forward at least needed over the summer we need to add goals to the side because mccarthy barry osman besic mcgeady barkley kone gibson do not score regularly. Naismith has not been getting a game mirralas scores in fits and starts and lukaku has two goals from open play in the league this calender year. Our players also need to learn how to cross and when to have a shot at goal rather than pass it sideways and backwards. If these problems are not addressed in preseason I fear next year will be worse than this one and our transformation into wigan will be one season closer.

Nail on head with our crossing. Baines, Coleman and McGeady are the best crossers of the ball we have.
Before you start raging at my McGeady statement he is a good crosser but is terrible, just terrible at everything else. Goes past people all of the time but then decides to do it all over again and again and again. Then his passing to a team mate from anywhere under 3 feet is abysmal. How can this be for a professional footballer!
Anyway, I can already feel myself becoming angry with him, two wingers I think we need who thinks about the forward and does the basics right but I want to see real quality that takes us up a level and may mean good money being invested.
Need to and take some Valium and calm down now.

Coleman a good crosser john? don't think I've ever seen him put a ball in the box. He always launches it out for a goal kick or straight into the keepers hands. They very rarely stay in play.

Yea just seen the goal very good he ain't affeaid to shoot had 4 shots all outside the area scored 1 and 3 on target forcing saves from keeper, I am glad he is out on loan and playing been getting worried that he was not going to be what we thought still not there yet but this is a good sign, league 2 I know but it's not about the standard it's about learning the game in competitive matches in a tough league hope it goes well for the last 6 games for him and hopefully see him around the squad for next season although maybe a 3month loan may be better for him. He just needs to enjoy it and embrace it talent is not in question from what I hear he has everything.

if Martinez is saying Stones has to compete with Alcatraz for a place, then he has lost any man management skills he had or may have had. Stones is our best performer and most promising for the future and coments like that will only lead to Stones saying 'I'm off elsewhere.
When Premiership safety is assured, Martinez has to give all the youngsters games to gain experience.
Did Martinez ever play international football?

Agree stef. What an absolute rat. Lukaku is a good striker but he would not get into any of the teams he linked him with.
Ed. Was asking same 2 questions all through game. We played better with 10 men than with mcgeady in team. Besic must wonder what he has to do to get a full 90 minutes. i'm a cabby and I will drive mcgeady back to moscowfor free.
Rats sinking ship springs to mind. Mccarthy should have been given a better contract after last season in any case. Coleman deserves champions league. Next out the door will most likely be mirralas with only 18 months left on his deal. Roberto has not just sold kenwright and the fans a dream of champions league but also the players. Watching them the last few games being played out of position and not knowing were to play the ball it looks like they have lost faith in the tactics but are being forced to play that way. When we concede the first goal the heads drop and there is no fight or passion. When they come out in the second half there is no urgency like they have been bo****d at half time. Really worried about the rest of this season and if we do survive how we improve for next. Just read the wigan forums from a couple of years ago and it looks like our forums now. Playing side to side no forward movement no crosses in the box wasted freekicks and corners. Like the man but he has to go now.

I see where you are coming from ed, my worry is we sell Rom and Ross and they go on to have great careers elsewhere. They are both still young and every ex pro you hear is positive Ross is the real deal. Maybe because he is a blue I am wanting him to do well also. If Rom leaves the rebuild for next year looks even bigger, yes there will be money but our only centre forward will be Kone. If Rom goes who do we replace him with with realistically, Danny Ings, Charlie Austin or take a chance on a foreign player. I would be worried having to bring in so many new players. The consequences of this awful season are yet to be seen I feel.

You right sid. We have loads of space for new players home grown or overseas. The problem i'm having is on paper our defence is not that bad apart from cover at cb. Is martinez going to bring in a cb who replaces stones or jagielka, probably not. I don't think we will improve the fullbacks either.so first game of next season we will be playing the same back four with the same manager same tactics and more than likely the same problem. Not that i'm a massive fan, but if tony pulis had that back four he would be able to coach it to keep clean sheets. For me this is why I believe he has to go. I also think the majority of our transfer budget has to be spent in the wide positions, we need to add goals to our midfield and support lukaku. I still think barkley can go on to be a cracking player and our team should be built around him and lukaku.
{Ed025's Note - i agree with most of that sean, but maybe lukaku will not be here after the summer, and anyone who would put their faith in ross to build a side around is very naive mate..
