Not been on here in a long time, but just wanted to post to say there's some rumours knocking about that we're after Andriy Yarmolenko from Dynamo Kyiv. More than likely not true but would be some signing if we pulled it off.

ToffeeTony

{Ed025's Note - great player tony..hope your right mate..

Absolutely tore us apart in the Europa League last season. If we have enough, should be a player we should go all out to bring in.

{Ed025's Note - amen to that mate..

I know Twitter isn't the most reliable source but apparently Everton are in talks with Atletico Madrid for Mario Suarez

Seen stories about Roberto saying we "might" need to dip into the transfer market. For one of, if not the, first time under Roberto, I feel slightly worried, we need to dip into the market, not "might need to". My opinion is that Lukaku and Kone is not a good enough striking option for a season in which we have to play Europa, meaning we're competing in 4 competions. I think we need a minimum of 2 players in order to think our squad has improved from last season; a striker and an attacking midfielder preferably.

ToffeeTony

{Ed025's Note - im with you there tony mate..

1.) I'm sure that's just Bobby keeping his cards close to his chest again. We'll surely sign at least one more, or maybe two loans, but I expect Bobby will be planning ahead to the January window as well. Especially if we lose any players to the African cup of nations.

I'm sure RM has his targets and several options in the positions he needs to cover, however he will keep these under wraps as he won't want to end up in a bidding war that will drive the prices up so we overspend on a player.

3.) RM's a wily kind of guy, very savvy in the transfer market imo>>>

Just cannot envisage him buying/loaning without thorough consideration!

We don't even know our EL campaign strategy yet ( 18th Sept. ) against? etc.

Just a post about Fantasy Football, the top 3 in this years league were as follows:

1) Gladiators-Gurvinder Sidhu-2, 429
2) blue sky-Steve Skapik-2, 395
3) Merlin's Men-Adrian Kemble-2, 387

Will try and set another one up when next season comes around if people are still up for it then.

ToffeeTony

1.) Can we go down to 5th please I want a mention .!

{Ed025's Note - if you finished 5th jono...you must have had a great season.. :)

2.) Gutted I didn't join it, I got 2430!

Am I actually seeing a debate over whether people would rather finish 5th or 4th.? Isn't the answer (4th) obvious.?

ToffeeTony

1.) Totally Tony. 4th must be the aim until it's mathematically impossible. If it's 5th or 6th, then it's still a European place.

May sound a bit negative, but I can't help but feel that this season was our best chance to finish top 4 and it may well of been blown. I feel that with United and Spurs being below par there was a massive chance to have a go at the top 4, but I feel that United will spend big in the summer, Spurs will spend as will Liverpool, City, Chelsea and Arsenal.

If we don't get Champions League this season then the pressure's really on the club to strengthen considerably in the summer in order to compete next season.

I do keep forgetting this season could be classed as a 'transition season' but we've gone so long without success it's always disappointing when we fall short.

ToffeeTony

{Ed025's Note - just being around that top group is an achievement in itself tony, with our limited resources i think we are doing really well, of course we would all love massive investment and big name players but this is what we have, i think we are everyones favourite second club because of the fact we thrive in the face of adversity..

1.) Well said Ed, we all know that Rome wasn, t built in a day this is Roberto, s first season and I for one am full of optimism for the years to come, well done Everton, GuernseyBlue

Poor performance last night, Everton just do seem to do must win games, do they?

Anyway, I think the next 2 games are crucial to our season, lose on Saturday, we're out the cup, lose to Liverpool and we're further behind them and Spurs, meaning we miss out on a trophy and losing ground of top 4 rivals.

We need a turnaround, we've got McGeady (who I thought looked like he'll be a decent signing last night), we've got Traore and any other signings to come in and we've got Barkley, Deulofeu & Pienaar all out injured and possibly returning within the next few weeks.

ToffeeTony

1.) Unfortunately some injuries are coming home to roost now - Ossie is ok but he's not a Barkley and he loses possession way too much - we need deulefeo and Barkley back ASAP

I'm with Ander here, and don't patronise his opinion, certainly not based on what his age may or may not be. I'm not part of the "Kenwright Out" crowd either. Kenwright did save the club, but that was the best part of 17/ 18 years ago now. It's come to the point now where we can't keep letting him stay purely because of sentiment based on something he did a long time ago.

Right now, we have a billionaire who owns 49.9% of the club and wants to take us forward, I personally can't see this happening if the likes of Kenwright and Elstone keep adopting the "plucky little Everton" tag from the days where we worked on a shoestring.

Stop making stuff up, he's signing a new contract. Go back to your own rumours site.

One things for certain and that is that we need a striker with Jelavic going, someone like Batshuayi would be good, and surely it'd allow Roberto to make some big signings in the summer?

People making it out that £40 mill debt means we're in trouble? that's a relatively low amout of debt in terms of a Premier League football club in modern football, and as for Everton becoming more in debt, look at Liverpool, their latest figures show they've gone up to £80 odd million debt! We're not in trouble, we are a fairly financially stable club, we just don't have much left over for transfers.
I can also understand some of the arguments such as kenwright not selling up. Whilst I can empathise with his philosophy of "finding the right buyer", it has been a good 10 years of "24/7" searching for a new investor/owner to no avail.

My personal view on this is the board have had a large number of well documented failures and we need investment and a plan. However if we did get sold it doesn't necessarily need to be to a multi-billionaire, just someone with a plan. I believe the solution proposed by these fan groups is to appoint "independent experts" to sell the club on behalf of the board, who would presumably stay until the club is sold.

I think the idea behind the plane was more than likely to get media coverage, which if it was, they succeeded. Not saying I agree with this method of protest, they are more effective means of removing a board.

ToffeeTony

{Ed025's Note - i agree tony..

Does anyone not think McCarthy deserves a shout at the least? don't know where he'd fit into the team of the season (who he'd replace in it) but personally think he's had an outstanding season?

I would go for:

Lukaku (need a striker)
Griezmann (quality winger)
Dzsudzsak (another good winger)
Batshuayi/Lacazette (attacking options)
Astori/Indi (defensive options)
Barry/Fernando (CDM options)

Given about 9 players there but hey.

Your post was an interesting read Sid, I think Dunc could end up be a great manager for us in the future and we have a good set up for him to be groomed under

ToffeeTony

{Ed025's Note - im probably out of line here tony, but to me he does not seem to be typical management material..

If I had to guess Sid I'd say:

Everton v Man City (surely?!)
Crystal Palace v Liverpool (they're always on)
United v Sunderland

I would expect that the other game will either be one of Arsenal, Chelsea or Spurs games, or perhaps a relegation game, so maybe Stoke Fulham, assuming Fulham aren't down by then.

ToffeeTony

{Ed025's Note - i think sky said a couple of weeks ago that all liverpool, chelsea, arsenal and city games would be televised live...so that will be the 4 probably..
