can see us being in 6th place at the close of play this weekend with Manchester United having to play city, liverpool having a tough trip to newcastle and us playing swansea. can't see arsenal tripping up against burnley though to get us to 5th.

huytonbluecraig

1.) The wins against Villa and Burnley have brought back some confidence. The quicker passing was there against Villa and the Burnley game was pretty dominant. 3 wins on the bounce will put us right back up there.

2.) A win against Swansea City and the resulting three points would be nice.
Moving up the table would also be good.
What other teams do is obviously out of our control, but, like most fans, it is pleasing when our rivals falter ;-)
My mantra is: just concentrate on winning the next game; let RM and the club deal with the strategy and planning and player development that makes winning possible; and then let's see where we are at the end of the season.

3.) It's all about cashflow Cowpat. Yes we were a lot more in debt and we have just paid a big chunk off. But we know we are guaranteed season ticket sales next season and Premier League money comes in stages. My own maths told me we had a sizeable chunk of dosh and it was obvious to me that we were weak in the center back area. This was directly after securing Lukaku and Barry on permanent deals. The fact we didn't sign anyone and also paid the chunk of our outstanding debts off tells me that my maths was about right. I still expect us to make that signing. Maybe in January, and if not, then at the end of the season.

I wonder if the big announcement will be us now offering 1/4 season tickets as well as 1/2 and full. Can't see it being a player or takeover as they surely would prefer to announce something this big at a home game.

apparently man city defender Nastasic is available in a cut price deal for £5Million. would it be worth bringing this lad in and would he be able to progress similarly to John Stones to form a future partnership for ongoing seasons, particularly considering Distan is likely to retire at the end of this season, Jags is the wrong side of 30 now, alcaraz is injury prone and Browning is not forcing any of the above out of 1st team contention this season?

huytonbluecraig

1.) £5 mill would be a steal, would probably depend on how brownig and Galloway are progressing

2.) I'd go for him at 5m. A top class defender and as you say one to be partnered with John Stones at CB with the likely departure of Distin for next season.

3.) Five million does seem too good to be true, which is usually the case, so my question is, 'why are ManCity apparently making available for such a low price?'
As long as Browning and Galloway prove good enough to compete with Stones and Jagielka for the centre-back roles in our first team (and even if this is the last season at Everton for Distin and Alcaraz), then I don't see RM bringing in another centre-back.

4.) 16 Nov 2014 23:28:53
Man city could be making him available due to a number of reasons. Firstly they may not see him in their future plans, they may be happy with other defenders developing in their youth more than him, city can buy quality whenever it suits them so no need to develop the youngsters and take a chance, they may not be able to fit him into squad quotas in future due to other players they are more interested in including. All I know is if he's available for 5 mill. Get the lad because u won't find much better in youth development than him now and the price is intriguing.

{Ed007's Note - Celtic have a young CB called Jason Denayer on loan from City, he's supposedly the 'next Kompany'. I don't know about that but for a 19 y.o kid he's strolling through SPFL games and looks the part in the EL as well. City have big plans for him but they've been impressed with the way he's progressing up here and might loan him to us next season as well.}

5.) I think Nastasic will be available because they want Barkley and can use him to spice up the offer.

6.) 17 Nov 2014 11:23:47
Ignoring nastasic will be the reason pellegrini loses his job in may, i'd take nastasic, but they are not having barkley, if they say we can't get nastasic without barkley, tell them to shove it, stones, ty and galloway are more important anyway

Was sitting down with my eldest daughter watchin some of the old videos of everton and got to one with our holy trinity playing and can't help but feel soon we may be graced with a similar standard of midfield we have only dreamt of watching since the mid 60s. I am a early 80s child so got to watch as a very young boy in the pen with my dad the likes of Reid, Bracewell, sheedy, steven. I only wish I was old enough to have seen my dads idols ball and young play thier trade week in week out. My memory of efc in the 90s for which time I mostly held season ticket after season ticket was traumatising, seeing my beloved everton commonly drawing or losing at home against teams who we would have thrashed in years gone by in the 80s. I finally have THAT FEELING again of the 80s looking at our team sheets seeing mccarthy, barry, barkley, deloufeu, mirallas, mcgeady, pienaar, osman, naismith and thinking bring whoever you want we are everton and we are going to play you off the park. Can't wait for the european nights and our fight for the top 4 next season. COYB.

My mate was out in allerton today (asda to be exact)- bumped into deloufeu and asked the all important question "where does your future lie for next season" to which he replied "at everton next season". He said he was enjoying life here competing in the team and showing what he can do. He also said he doesn't see his long term future at everton because he wants to be a barca legend and this is the quote that got took out of context by the tabloids saying he was going back to barca next season to compete for his place there (which I personally don't think he's ready for yet). The beginning of what he said had me excited for next season, the lad has talent and will only get better with more experience which is what he is here for. The picture he took with hashtag #evertonbehaviour has gone viral with 30 re tweets.

Deloufeu was great tonight, as was osman filling the void of mirallas. Didn't even need mcgeady. Great performance both defensively and on the attack. Can't understand why they didn't start ben arfa, but I'm not complaining. Our centre mids matched and bowled over newcastle and that my friends is where games are won and lost. Our wings were also dominant against a poor newcastle side, happy blue here tonight as you all can tell and my wife is made up we won or she may have had me sleeping on the couch tonight! Onwards and upwards for the mighty blues while arsenal slip up on their first banana skin against swansea. let's concentrate on the next match ahead and carry this good performance forward and pray fouth spot is ours at the end of the season. Every game a cup final now and that message needs to be the focus around the training ground from now until end of may. Coyb

Love the comments from ross barkley, backing up sheedy's earlier rant by posting. roberto is a better tactician than moyes. I know the lad's only stating the obvious, would be nice when the youth set up get games either this or next season to post their delight that roberto's our manager and they are grateful of the opportunities they are receiving as opposed to that of our previous manager!

9 players need replacing, we've got no money, let's sign the players on loan?

exactly what I've been thinking bombay, a besic, barkley partnership there may actually help us, it may re invigorate barkleys performances too, which of late have been dire due to being stuck on the left wing. I said it before he could like gerrard did in his earlier carrer take games by the scruff of the neck and start our attacking play from our own half, allowing us the imputus to attack as a unit. Besic is so underrated, not only is he tenatious in the tackle, but his ball playing skills are good too.

Think we've already got the perfect replacement for barry at the club with besic, we also have some quality young blood coming through the ranks to help out with cm in coming seasons, the vital place for strengthning this window would be cb and gk for me. Howard desperately needs replacing, as does Distan. one I would never have thought I would have found saying so early due to past accolades, but jags looks like a broken man these days so 2 cb's and a gk would be an ideal window, along with a winger, preferably deloufeu on loan again.

who should we sign then. I'm looking at young raw talent who could progress with J Stones into an established centre half for years top come for us, my list would include one of the following. Mechele, Tah, Rudiger, Doria, Denswil, Rugani, Kongolo, Laporte, Balanta, Ginter or Zouma. Unsure about the price bracket some of them could collect particullarly the latter players on the list such as Ginter or Zouma could cost upwards of £20mill even at such a young age. Most of the players are dominant and strong centre backs at their respectful clubs which is definately a trait we want in a centere half coming into the premier league. Think we are covered this season as long as Stones comes back strong after his injury and Alcarez seems to have stabalised himself to a more sound centre back, I would still worry with him playing against a side in the top 6 though.

think the booing was due to Jags playing the ball back to howard instead of playing a forward pass when there were players available to pass to, but the subsequent ball back to howard was then thumped up field and Lukaku lost the header to their defender (as was all evening). I feel we played well in spells, but were done by the ref again, stupid mistakes were starting to creap in all which contributed to an agitated crowd. At 3-1 up you would not expect qpr to come back into it, but we all know games can change particularly if they had scored another goal to make it 3-2. Suppose the crowd wanted more goals and for us to express our attacking intent, but the game just fizzled out and we became defensive once they got the goal (which may I say should have been a foul to us on Ross before the ref waived play on only to call an offside, followed by qpr's quick counter attack and a silly goal conceeded.)

I'd certainly agree last season Barry was a breath of fresh air for us playing from the back, but now that teams have sussed us out and play high up the pitch pressurising distan Jags and in particular GB, he has not performed any where near the level of last season, that may be down to as some have suggested that he is carrying an injury, or potentially he is no longer playing for a contract anymore so feels more relaxed now he's signed permanantly and doesn't need to impress every game, or as mentioned teams sussing our style of play now. I would certainly suggest Etoo and Naismith have been great for us and the fact that their style of play does not necessarily need pace to be effective can only benefit them as teams can not thwart their impact and danger. I suggested a couple of weeks ago that GB would benefit from a rest to try to gain more fitness so he isn't caught on the ball as often, then James Mac got injured and scuppered that plan, However I would still suggest this when JMac returns from injury to give JMac and besic a run of games together to see how they get on and give GB a good chance to return to last seasons form. Added to this I would also like RM to introduce the speed of play out the back to be faster so we can expose the teams who push high up against us and get behind their lines of defense so the likes of Mirallas, Barkley, Lukaku, Etoo, Naismith etc can run at opposing defenders instead of the slow build up play at present which gives teams time to set up their defensive formation, squeese the space so we don't have space to play in and eventually we end up losing the ball. I therefore feel its an in direct impact of why both Ross and Lukaku have been struggling for form this season due to the lack of space due to the lathargic build up play between Jags Distan, JMac and Barry. I just feel the spine of the team need a good kick up the backside from RM and for him to find a mean streak and give them a piece of it!

If I understand correctly the terms of the qualification, we can not face another seeded team, RB Salzburg, Dinamo Moscow, Inter, Fiorentina are guarenteed winners of each europa group as we are so we can not play those, nor can we play any of the champions league teams who have dropped down into the 32 to play the remainder of competition such as Olympiacos, Liverpool, Zenit, Anderlecht, Roma, Ajax, Sporting Lisbon or Athletic Bilbao, there are still a few good teams in the competition currently battling either in a 2 horse race between 2nd and 3rd in their respective groups to gain qualification to play against us, even some of the groups have a 3 horse race with any of the teams able to qualify as 1st in their group and therefore we may not face either. The worrying thing would be similarly to the start of the competition is drawing a team who are a long distance away from us such as Krasnador which took its tol on our squad. Likewise that team would have to face a return trip to face us at Goodison which you would feel quietly confident we would win if a team travels a long distance to play against us at home. Can anyone correct me if I'm wrong (Cowpat?)

Considering this instance that Moyes was good in the transfer market, particularly at buying cheap players to hit the ground running and perform for us, the possibility that we could find a coach similar who heads up the transfer market with our scouting system to identify players to sign, leaving important matters like coaching, team selection, tactics etc to RM. We all know RM has signed the ex wigan players and other proven players from prem clubs such as romelu and barry, he also has aquired players from overseas such as etoo, but most of these are not unknown quantities when joining us like Moyes signings such as Arteta, Cahill, Jagielka, Lescott, Pienaar, oviedo, mirallas, stones the list is endless, Moyes did bring in players who were proven in the Prem during his era such as Baines and Yakubu to name a couple, but most were not signings were not in the top tier but made the grade for a number of years for us. The point I'm trying to make is we don't really know what RM is like in the transfer market at finding hidden gems as he has not aquired any yet, the next transfer windows in January and the summer are likely to prove whether he can perform in the market as he has purchased as I would believe all the ex wigan players who he believed would perform for us, and the proven perm players who were bought from tv money and the sale of fellaini. Now we need quite a few players replacing and don't have the financial backing to throw £100 mill at the squad in one fell swoop like the shower across the park, he will need to be shrewd in the transfer market to replace the aging squad over the summer, in particular distan, osman, barry, howard. granted we have players in the squad who could probably replace ageing players at present such as stones replacing distan, besic replacing barry and barkley replacing osman, consider if this was to happen we would need back up players for the squad for the eventuality that distan barry and osman either retire or are released.
