Hello Blues,

Not here to gloat, I'm one of the few that would actually rather both teams in the city do well.

As a keen coach and analyst, I've watched Jota's goal over and over and I can't for the life of me understand why Pickford has dropped down to his left. I don't want to take anything away from what was a very good goal, but the angle at which Jota finds himself in before shooting meant he could only realistically score in one place. If Pickford had stayed up straight, he would have had that angle covered and had Jota somehow tried to squeeze towards the far post, he would have had that covered with his legs. He makes the odd good save now and then, but he really isn't the man for you to build solid foundations on.

Talking of foundations, I was on here in the summer really bigging up Graham Potter. I still think it's that route you need to down. Not only does he play an attractive style of football, but he's also able to work with what he's got and doesn't need an instant overhaul. He's even got Shane Duffy back in the line up! Don't let recent draws fool you, he's transformed a long-ball, defensive team in to one playing good football and currently sitting above the likes of Man Utd, Leicester and Spurs. For me, he really should be your top choice.

Hope you're not suffering too much Ed025 ;)

{Ed025's Note - im an evertonian smp, suffering is part of the deal mate..

Potter? No thanks mate. Maybe he will send his cv to Liverpool in a couple of years when Klopp decides to leave. He can fight it out with Gerrard!

2.) 02 Dec 2021 19:32:07
Why not blue potatoe? Firstly, who could we even attract with our current state? We aren’t exactly very appealing with the amount of money we have to spend and the amount of managers we’ve been through. I wanted him when the position was vacant. He was outstanding at Swansea also. I’m from Swansea and they couldn’t think highly enough of him. Remember where loges came from. Preston, and he more than done a job for us. We’ve tried the proven ones and it just isn’t happening.

3.) 02 Dec 2021 20:21:44
Evertonmincer, I have always felt he is overrated in all honesty. Same with Howe, I just don't see what others see in them! Add that to the fact we haven't sacked a manager for a few months now so we don't need one just yet. though, something is going to give this week I feel mate. Manager or DoF?

4.) 02 Dec 2021 19:02:25
Wanted Potter before we got Benitez. Young manager with fresh ideas, who team never give, and are always positive in their play.

5.) 02 Dec 2021 22:20:31
Never give up ?.

6.) 02 Dec 2021 23:09:59
Good comment from smplfc can't disagree with any of that. Potter is a quality manager. I think rafa is 100 percent still the man. Only criticism is he won't give simms and dobbin I try but there must be something in this as nobody else has either.
What was supposed to be the best holiday of my life (honeymoon in Croatia summer of 2017) was the catalyst to where we are now. Like some charity we decided to re sign Rooney- I've no issue in him leaving to utd when he did but to resign him and then flash the cash on 3 other average number 10s was financial suicide. Everyone knows the recruitment has been absolutely dreadful. Since then iwobi for 30 million is the worst transfer in the history of English football. Summer 2017 I think is when we lost lukaku meanwhile we chased 3 number 10s , meanwhile leicester signed iniacho and maddison!
I'm not sure if sacking brands is the solution and 100 percent sacking rafa is definitely not the answer. He needs backing more than ever. Last thing, I attended the burnley home game which we won. The atmosphere was abysmal. I know rafa managed lfc (in my opinion I couldn't give a toss) If we sang his name and got behind the team maybe just maybe that would perk them up.

7.) 02 Dec 2021 23:34:47
Why on earth would we want a young, progressive manager who has Brighton above us without spending hundreds of millions versus a manger whose tactics (although no evidence lately he has any) are outdated and those of 10-15 years ago but most importantly has the backing of Farhad Moshiri - that well known football expert

It is what it is. WE have no say as fans and as long as Farhad is showing he has learnt with his texts to Jim White why should we give our opinions.

Morning Blues,

Just wanted to congratulate you on yesterday's winning. As the world has shown us recently, life is more important than being ungracious in defeat, even if it's against your bitter rivals. This isn't meant to be patronising or a dig at all, but I can imagine finally beating us at Anfield or in general after so many years must have been a hell of lift, so enjoy it.

No excuses either from me on the game itself, you took your early chance and defended very well whilst we didn't create enough, so for me, a deserved win.

Good stuff SMP, it takes a calm head and true sporting instincts to post words like those mate.
The way it used to be when I was a kid we (Merseysiders) were renowned for it .

Hey Blues.

A red here in peace.

I've seen a few posts here and there about Rafa, so I'm just curious to know on that sort of line, how many of you would take Brendan Rodgers as your next gaffer?

smplfc

1.) 27 Feb 2018 19:33:59
No chance.

2.) 27 Feb 2018 19:42:56
Never really thought of Rodgers. Personally I would prefer Raffa.

3.) 27 Feb 2018 19:48:47
Ditto that Smit mate.

4.) 27 Feb 2018 19:55:57
No No No No No No No No No No No No No No No and F🤬🤬🤬 No. Hope that answers your question? 😂😂.

5.) 27 Feb 2018 21:13:29
Is that a definite no? Big H.

6.) 27 Feb 2018 21:24:55
Hmm? Sorry drifted off there - NO!

7.) 27 Feb 2018 22:43:39
Why would we ever contemplate Rodgers, what has he done. He is at his level now, playing in a one team league.

{Ed0333's Note - I wouldn’t wish Badgers on any football club and that includes Man Utd and Chelsea.

ED025

A Reds fan here in peace.

How on earth can some Everton fans claim that Sig's is being overpriced when the club are asking for the same amount for Barkley, who isn't as good and has less left on his contract?

I'm not bitter at all, I think you have some fantastic youngsters coming through and a brilliant academy, but bar a couple of flashes, Barkley is average for me.

Without looking into it to much, I'm confident that in a team fighting relegation, Sig has better stats than Ross.

If he wasn't a local lad, he'd have gone for a quarter of the price.

If Ross is up for that tag, then Sig is a steal in my eyes.

What do you think Ed?

smplfc

{Ed025's Note - i tend to agree smp, ross tends to get more leeway with him being a local lad but for me is very inconsistent, in my view if we got sigurdsson and sold ross for a similar fee then i feel it would be a great deal, barkley has a lot of talent but lacks application at times and maybe a move away could be the making of the lad, if he stays or goes does not bother me to be honest but i think he will find it hard to get in the side especiallyl if gylfi does come, i wish the lad no ill will but feel he has been foolishly advised and i dont think koeman is his biggest fan either but what will be will be mate..

1.) 14 Jul 2017 17:19:30
Thanks for the reply Ed.

I'm not for one moment saying Sig is worth £50m, I just think it's not unfair to quote him at the same price you want for barkley.

{Ed025's Note - no problem mate..

2.) 14 Jul 2017 17:34:11
Very fair assessment, particularly for a Red!

Barkley was talked about with the same passion as Rooney when he broke into the first team (if not before) , but whereas Rooney really delivered, Barkley hasn't kicked on. It's frustrating because he seems to have all the talent in the world. Conversely, look at Milner who was never the most naturally gifted, he grafted and has won a number of trophies, not by being an also ran but by being a first team pick. You have to think that if Barkley really put the graft in then he'd have a similar career, given his natural talent.

Just my opinion, but you see less naturally talented players than Barkley have incredibly successful careers, so it can only be down to application.

3.) 14 Jul 2017 18:13:10
Spot on SMP. your absolutely right. it goes both ways, and we can't really complain when we have to swallow the same pill. If the club want him they'll pay what's being asked.

4.) 14 Jul 2017 18:36:29
Ross ain't a kid with "potential" anymore. When he "burst" on the scene, as a bluenose with lots of reds for mates, I really wanted us to have a player that we produced for once ( I know Rooney was but he flew the nest before he made much of an impact) I think Ross is (insert word that might get me banned) sorry! I just do not rate the guy. bad attitude, bit of an idiot, poorly advised, actually just not very good and frankly would not get in the first 11 of any team above us (as of last season) maybe that's why we have had zero offers?

Big joke even in these carazy times with money being what it is. I don't want to be one of those posters that's maybe spent a few hours too long in the sun (pub) but i think anything between 15 and 20 mil is about right. Get him gone. Another for the "where are they now" bargain bin.

5.) 14 Jul 2017 20:08:37
All transfer fees are the result of supply and demand. If someone's willing to pay 50 million for Sigurdsson, then that's what he's worth. Same for Ross.
If someone offered us 30+ million I'd bite their hand off.
No one doubts his ability - but where's the end product?

6.) 14 Jul 2017 21:29:15
The old adage - craft is uslesss without graft!

You can have all the skill and ability on the world, but with application, you may as well have nowt.

7.) 14 Jul 2017 21:48:04
Ross seems to have other influences that are not football related that are dictating his career. He has talent but to be at the very top you need to have the right mentality and commitment.

It's a shame he had a manager instilling the wrong mentality in him and when we got a manager who played to be the best in his position through hard work and application he rejected it and pushed against it.

He needs to move and I'm sorry to say that. Fingers crossed one day he reaches his potential.

For us Gylfi seems a great fit to replace him. Regardless of the price.

{Ed025's Note - its a bit of a shame really john but your right..

8.) 14 Jul 2017 22:27:36
I've been one his biggest believers Ed and I know you've wanted him too to be a success. I suppose it's been highlighted even more with Davies successes this season what the right attitude can get you. Such a shame.

{Ed025's Note - it is john, local lad does good and all that would make me very proud mate, he has shot himself in the foot if you ask me but i suppose only time will tell..

A red here in peace.

Now I'm not tarring you all with the same brush here, but I'm pretty sure than when Moyes was at the peak of his powers at Goodison, a lot of Evertonians said "imagine what he could do with money at a big club! "

Now obviously you are still a very big club and now you have money, so why are 95% of you so against his return? Would he not sure up the leaky defence and turn the likes of stones, Galloway, Coleman, garbutt, Holgate etc in to defenders that RM could only dream of doing?

Genuinely curious, not here looking for a bite. I hope whatever happens you get someone who can take you back near the top and both clubs can make the city proud.

smplfc

{Ed025's Note - to be fair smp its like asking the reds if they would have rodgers back?, the other season when you finished second he was the best thing since sliced bread, the point im making is that you should never go back, the football under moyes was dire most of the time and his "taking a knife to a gunfight"mentality and record against the top 6 was deplorable, we as evertonians expect to be entertained as well as getting results and that plus the way he left us makes his appointment a non-starter we hope mate..

1.) 26 May 2016 19:01:30
Fair one Ed when you put it like that, I understand where you are coming from. In hindsight looking back, I think most of us realise that it was Suarez that took us pretty much to second on his own.

So in terms of other potential in comers, do you feel Pellegrini is just another RM? His record against the big boys wasn't great and his refusal to change from 4-4-2 along with a flaky defence, to me that screams another Roberto. On the other hand, he did win trophies. What's your take?

{Ed025's Note - i think he is a good manager smp, he has a proven track record and is well respected in the game, whether or not he is the right man only time will tell but i think we could do a lot worse mate..

Baines better than Cole overall hahaha!

I understand your loyalty to a club cult hero, but Cole is arguably the best left back of his generation. Absolutely world class on the pitch.

Reds fan here in peace chaps.

Just to point out our starting left back was bought from that same relegated Hull side. Fans favourite Gini Wijnaldum was brought in from a relegated Newcastle and one of the best value for money summer signings Shaq was brought in from relegated Stoke. All sit at the top of the table having played their part this season.

Coming from a relegated club doesn't make you a bad player.

{Ed025's Note - thats very true mate..

Think it’s uneducated snobbery from the poster @ Ed0666 mate.

None of this foreign tip tap nonsense of the new brand of football, let’s go back to British basics.

Out of interest, 7 of the current top 8 in the prem are managed by “foreigners”.

All of the bottom 3, yes you guessed it, managed by British managers.

Don’t start me off on Potter again Ed025! People will staff to think I’m his agent….

I’m with you though Ed, backing Rafa is the best thing you guys can do. I’m sure at Newcastle he always finished stronger than he started and with players coming back from injury, I feel you’ll have a decent second half to the season.

smplfc

{Ed025's Note - i hope so smp, we really need DCL back asap and mina would make a difference, maybe a couple of new faces in january (probably loans) will see us safe and we reassess from there, but if we lose a couple of our next games we may need harry potter rather than graham mate.. :)

Why would Moyes come back?

He’s finally settled down in a job for the first time since leaving Everton. He has the fans onside at West Ham and I’d imagine more money to spend too.
