Hi ed any truth in the rumours that we have already signed two players Brendan Galloway and Sam Byrne? Galloway for in the region of £3-4m and Byrne has been released by Man Utd. They also say they have flown out with the youth teams to Austria.

Ed. Is there any news on the possible transfer of Steven Caulker? Have heard we are interested, but QPR have had a bid accepted.

tom the toffee

{Ed025's Note - it's still up in the air tom..

1.) Hope not he's totally over rated.

2.) I rate Caulker as a player but don't see the point of signing him. We have Jags, Distin, Stones, Alcaraz and Duffy already, so would like to think we use our mony to strengthen up front and in midield.

{Ed025's Note - i agree lee..

3.) I would get rid of alcaraz. I don't no what bobby se, s in him. Shocking defender

Everton can expect to pick up £89 million for finishing 5th. According to reports. With that kind of money coming in plus money from players sold the last couple of transfer windows, we could well have a busy summer ahead! Also clear some more of the debt and maybe even have the money ring fenced for the potential new ground. Have you seen this ed?

{Ed025's Note - i tend not to speculate on money matters tom, if it goes tits up it can make one look foolish mate..

1.) It does not work like that Tom. whenever TV money is banded about people view it as profit, it is not. We have always received substantial amounts of TV money and it has always been in the premier league era around 75% of our revenue/turnover. In the last 5 years our revenue has been almost exactly the same as our operating costs so we have neither made nor lost money. For a football club that is actually pretty good, but those figure are around the 85 million mark. The extra tv money that all clubs will receive to some extent (i believe the bottom club will get more this year than Utd got for winning it last year) simply improves our turnover by about 20 odd million. Agreed there is still some money, say 8-10 million from player sales but with increased revenue comes demands for increased wages from players. Ultimatley although we will have a bit more money available than normal I would not imagine it will be more than 25 million, if you take away wages for new players I would then go as far to say transfer fees available will be around the 20 mill mark, certainly the extra money will not allow us to build a new stadium, however the fact that it is a 7 year increase may allow us to ask a bank for a loan and to refinance existing debt based on us staying in the premiership. It is a risk a lot of banks would take as it is historically sound to assume we will be in the top flight however it is still a gamble, especially from our side rather than a banks should we take on a large loan for a stadium or to really build a transfer war chest to try and crack the CL. This is how Leeds, Portsmouth etc got themselves in to such a mess. Unless the owner can offer an interest free loan (cash injection) in to a club by being a billionaire City, Chelsea, even Mike Ashley in fairness to him then it is always a risk. Add now the FFP rules where they are stopping that type of investment and a club will have to spend what it makes and you then have a situation where you have to be really careful and smart with what you spend.
Bottom line is despite what many fans think we are run really well, the CEO is very smart and has got us turning over a slight profit each year and with the new tv money if we can keep control of player wages then it will be a bigger profit each year (only a handful of clubs in Europe turn a profit) which in time will allow us to spend in transfer windows.

Hope that makes sense and is not viewed as condescending just trying to explain to people that extra money does not always relate to more money being available if costs go up.

2.) Is it true we can not clear our debt until 2025 without facing early payment penalties

3.) If we found ourselves in a position to clear our debts before then it would be down to new investment making any penalties probably not that significant to a new richer regime.
I actually have no idea about the structure of our loans just read what is in black and white for anyone willing to research and find it, that's money that comes in and out of the club, every penny is published so if we took the effort to read it then many would not be so in the dark as to what we can and can't spend

4.) 19.2 M 5th ./ 55 M TV/ 12 M Live TV = 86.2 M

Can we afford Bernie the Bolt now?

IMO Its a poor idea that has not been thought through properly. It would harm lower league clubs and the old reserve leagues restructed would be a better idea.

Could well do ed. The ironic thing is that Chelsea have been keeping Englands points up, so in a way we need them to keep winning!

{Ed025's Note - tomorrow would be a start tom.. :)

6th place gets a europa spot as man city won the league cup and wontbneed that spot as they are taking a champions league spot. If arsenal win the fa cup and finish 4th then hull will have the last remaining spot.
