We have been linked with Jean Philippe Gbamin as a replacement for Gueye, and his agent has said he is keen. Hopefully we can get a deal struck tomorrow as we play Mainz in the Opel Cup. I haven’t followed Mainz, so Ed do you think a deal will happen and is he Prem quality? Thanks in advanced.

As for Jean-Philippe Gbamin (DM/CM/CB, Mainz have said they will sell at the right price and have said that Arsenal have returned to watch him with a new scout (the last having been sacked) and that St Et, Wolves, Lille and Manchester City have also looked at him - but the player may want Champions League if he moves from Mainz. Monaco have held a number of discussions with Mainz. Talks were held with Liverpool, but that was a general enquiry with his agent and not an approach to the club. There are a couple of complications in that the player - who has emerged as a DM from being a CB wants to play more in CM, and the asking price Mainz have is €40M - way more than any of the clubs want to spend on him. It has been suggested that Everton are also keen on the player but his agent says a move to England would attract the player but Mainz say they have not been approached by Everton at this time.}
