Have we signed him then. Not sure that's our transfer policies. More likely paper garbage.

Whatever happens, we should give Carlo a full season and two windows before we even think about judging him. We would all love to see young, talented prospects at the club, but that needs to be balanced with consistent, experienced pros. Baines has gone, Coleman could be bit part next season. Who are our leaders on the pitch?

I think CA has probably looked at a side devoid of hunger and effort and is looking at players who can bring a bit of that. Remember where we are as a club, a side who has rolled over and had their belly tickled several times this year. If Ivanovic comes in and brings a positive attitude and a will to win, he’s worth it. We need winners. At the moment we haven’t got many. Can’t say I’d be over excited by this signing but can see the need to bring in a few experienced players with good attitudes. For years we’ve been playing football manager as opposed to building a side to win games.

JB I think one of our biggest problems for a fair few seasons is we don’t have any leaders on the pitch.

There’s no one there shouting and balling at the other players, or trying to motivate them during a game.

Whilst I like Coleman he’s not captain material.

Sigurdsson when he’s been captain is ridiculous - he can’t be bothered himself so why would he be able to motivate the players around him.

We need a captain on the pitch who can boss, direct, shout and support the team around them.

Sadly we don’t seem to have any one on the squad currently who can do that - Holgate May be but he’s still young.

Look how old Richard Gough was 37 and he was amazing, Ryan Giggs was old still an amazing player, Gary McAllister was 35 when at red sh☆☆e give the man a chance before you ridicule him EFC4LIFE COYB.

It sort of makes sense to bring him in. If Carlo wants cover at CB but his funds are needed for other positions then a 'free' transfer is what you look at. I don't see him being a regular starter by any means but he gives options if we suffer the same kind of injury issues as this year.
At least he has PL experience compared to PSG's Silva who is same age isn't he?
The other interesting one i heard was Umtiti. Available as a loan to buy. Very very good CB but apparently suffering so many injury problems that there are genuine worries for his career, hence Barcelona offering him out on loan because they wouldn't be able to sell.

hes 36 years old forget the leader thing it has nothing to do with it rather just go in the reserves and put a kid in first team as back up am sure there's leaders out there.

Gingerdan is right. We have no leaders on the pitch. Coleman is a great servant of the club but he's not the leader we need. I've never seen him kick off at other players for being idle ****ers or pulling out if tackles.

Right now we need a Roy Keane type leader. A player who will scare the other players into putting in a performance. Inspire passion through fear, someone who just won't take losing because the team won't put the effort in. Who that will be in today's market, I really don't know.

This was reported by one paper and then the Echo refuted it and Everton aren't interested. Why are we still discussing it? And, you don't need a scary player to get professionals to put in a performance, you just need professionals. That's old school thinking. There are no Roy Keanes on any of the Champions League teams. The truth is that our guys aren't good enough (specifically our midfield) and we need better players, not scarier ones.

I partly agree with you. But easy to say we need better players. Obviously if we had better players the team would be better and to compare us to champions League teams isn't realistic. All players for CL teams are players who won't accept losing due to a lack of effort.

But we have players who don't put the effort in. Not that they aren't able (some at least) . Too many don't give a rubbish and there is no one in our team who let's them know that that isn't acceptable.
