I'm seeing people call Gordon the next Ross Barkley. I strongly disagree. People say that we need players for now and not potential. People also say, give McNeil time. Even though his stats were worse than Gordon's last season. It doesn't make sense. So if we sell for 50m like people want, who will we replace him with? How much will that cost? Our big problem is we have invested dreadfully under Moshiri's ownership and the danger is that it continues in that way. That causes me to lack faith that we will replace Gordon well meaning that we lose a hard working enthusiastic young hungry player who is from the city and replace him with someone who we are trying to get off the books in a couple of years. You know what, I kind of hope that he goes as our fan base doesn't deserve him.

If Chelsea offered us Gallagher as part of the deal I would take that all day long. Gordon is good but I don't see a top top player there. Gallagher on the other hand has the potential to become a top midfield player. Not only is he a very solid defensive midfielder, but he scores goals as well (more than Gordon did last season) .
Also given the recent signings we have made it would suggest that the owner is now allowing the manager and DOF to actually do there jobs. So think any funds would be spent wisely.

{Ed002's Note - Chelsea are not going to offer Gallagher.}

More importantly people are presuming that if we sell we will reinvest in the squad. With the state of the club as it stands it may be the case that the majority of the cash is used to offset our P&L obligations. How would everyone feel if Gordon was sold for £50M and only £10M was used to find a replacement. The other £40m kept in reserve just in case we need it at the end of the season should we not reach our expected final position in the league and therefore be down on expected revenue.

I want him to stay bud I think losing Richarlison is enough but every player has a price and if they offered 50 million with most of that cash upfront I'm not sure the club could say no.

I read that £45 mill has been turned down.

if you don't think Anthony Gordon is replaceable with £50million then i'm not sure what Anthony Gordon you've been watching the last 12 months
a good talent yes, a £50million player? no.

Others have raised good points in seperate posts re: Gordon.
His finishing and passing are lacking. I think even if he meets potential, he's not long term a top 6 player.
We've found a good one and under different circumstances you would keep him.

However at 50m+ he is a great sale.
The job has been done then. We've unearthed a talent, given him game time and sold for a today profit. On to the next.

I'm not suggesting immediately either. We have cover in the wing positions.
We could potentially buy another young player for a fraction of the price, that could offer the same work ethic, which granted we would lose. But perhaps they will bring the some of the finishing we need for example.

Given our troubles with FFP, it's not unreasonable to see us cashing in and righting the finances even further. The sale of Richy won't last forever and hasn't magically got us out of financial troubles.

Just my opinion mate.
I believe we have enough funds for a striker at present and if not, part of the sale of Gordon could top that up, so we can bid strongly on goals into the team. But I'm also certainly not against much of those funds from a potential Gordon over-priced sale being kept to strengthen the club's position going into future windows, when new talents will become available like always.

How old was RB when he left us? 23 24? a few England caps? Regular 1st teamer for what? 3 or 4 seasons? Occasionally wore the captains arm band when Baines went off. Gordon isn't even any of those things. He may well be but I don't rate him when I compare him to the lads in and around the England squad. Can't see him ever getting in the squad. He has so much to improve where as RB was only missing playing with elite players. That's partly why he didn't break in to CFC 1st 11 because they're so strong and talented and partly why its a shock he didn't become a mega star surrounded by all that international world class talent. The big pay day and bright lights of London were enough for him and his attitude stinks. Would Gordon be any different? I agree he's a bright future if he works hard but the money being spoken of is ridiculous. So ridiculous that he's surely going to be sold. I can't believe I'm saying this but for the 1st time I am 100% in agreement with Sourness. He gets to the ball fast enough but then falls over. He can't shoot can't pass and can't cross or take a free kick. He is getting a lot of attention because he can pass a man so long as he isn't breathed on. He has a really healthy spiteful streak and he's a local lad but that last point is blinding people who are desperate for him to succeed. He's a golden egg frankly and the 50m is too big a deal to turn down. That would improve our squad. I also agree with Chelsea fans who almost all don't want him. He'd never get on the pitch. He'd disappear into the wilderness and join the Everton conveyor belt to oblivion. He could very well have come out and distanced himself from the speculation he could have signed his new contract but he hasn't. He is like any young footballer, he wants the big pay day and he wants to win things. He definitely wants to go. He may well end up the best midfielder in the country but I don't see how.

Sa90, if we get the players in and still have the £40 Million available, then instead of waiting until Summer, there is the January transfer window, where that money could be put to good uses, for a couple of tweaks, but only if needed.

As for people saying look at Gordon’s stats last season compared to McNeils, what I would say is ignore them, if Gordon does leave and McNeil is given his favoured position out wide, then have a look at McNeils stats, that’s if we get a striker in who McNeil can cross to.

I have very high hopes for McNeil and confident he will come good.

Everyone said Lampard and Gerrard cannot play together for England due to being too simular, but they played and lots of times as well.

This is what it’s like at the moment with McNeil and Gordon, both simular type players but when they start together, they are both trying to make runs in the same area of the pitch.

BS, you state all of that like it's fact when, in actual fact, it's just your opinion. Bit of a character assassination right there!
AG is nowhere near the finished article, that much is obvious. Will he improve from here? None of us know but the fact that someone from the U23's has come through the ranks, and is getting the games to help him keep improving, is exactly what the fans have been crying out for. A lot of the things you slate him for will improve through training hard and match experience.
Why should he come out and say anything? The fan base knows he loves the club and he wants to play for Everton. He will have a team of advisors telling him what to do, these kids don't even make their own decisions these days. Talks were started over the summer over a new contract, would his advisors/ agent be telling him to declare his unwavering love for EFC or use the interest from other clubs to get him a better deal here? Everton have already posted on social media saying the lad hasn't asked for a move or to talk to other clubs and that he is very happy here.
50m is an amazing offer for a player of his age and experience, especially in comparison to some of the fees being paid for full international players, but it has come at the wrong time. We can't afford to lose him and Richarlison in the same window. We struggled last year and these two were probably up there as our best players. Take that away and I dread to think what will happen come the end of the season.

What 50m standard player is moving to us? Nobody. We will probably have to overpay for someone with no potential, probably no resale value and have to invest in that position further in the future. Everybody on this post has come up with counter arguments but I see no suggested players. We need to build season after season and keeping someone like Gordon will help that. Trying to solve short term solutions will not help us long term. Gordon will improve over time and develop with the squad hopefully. Plus he played in such a bad team last season, hopefully we are better this season and can provide Gordon with a better platform to perform. We always expect players to be loyal to us but we want to get rid of a local lad with a large amount of potential because we want a good player now? What's the chances of us getting a significantly better player than Gordon? Next to zero. End up with another McNeil.
