Be interested to know people's thought on Gylfi based on his current vastly improved performances. Have seen some fans even calling for a new contract, which I think for a player his age is a little risky. From what I've seen recently he is actually giving much more than Rodriguez but because of his disappointing history with us, is perhaps getting overlooked a little.

Take the Rodriguez assist vs Liverpool and Siggy vs Southampton. Almost the same ball, but I recall Rodriguez being touted for it being class, and the reason he is so good (despite being the only thing he has done in the last 5 games) whereas Siggy barely gets a mention.

Also lots of talk about Davies resurgence - and rightly so - but no talk of Siggy. In fact the one poor game he had vs Newcastle is the only one I remember anyone mention, despite everyone being awful in that game.

I think there has been quite a bit of talk in the press recently about Siggy, he’s certainly improved a lot under CA this season and is definitely worth keeping onto for another season or two; I do not think it is much of a risk. There are certainly other players who should leave ahead of him, Bernard, Andre Gomes, Alex Iwobi for example.

Sorry Efcone - no way is he giving more than Rodriguez.

He may have played more games and showed some improvement however it’s not every game. He’s always got a tendency so pass backwards or sideways, and the number of times Ives seen him pointing to another player for the pass to go to them than him is ridiculous.

Rodriguez is pure class, got an amazing football brain and seems a few steps ahead of the play with his vision. He’s also got the ability to conjure something from nothing.

I’ll agree sigurdsson has improved - but was that really that hard based on his shucking lacklustre performances earlier in the season?

Would only offer a new contract if was sensible wages and not what he’s currently on.

I think Gomez, Gifi and James all lack pace.

I think it has been telling in quite a few of our games recently.

Decore and Allan are also not spring chickens - I feel we would be in a position to replace whole midfield in few years and better to do it a player at a time.

I think Gifi is good player but compare him to Grealish / Maddison etc

Time has come that we change it - I’d also get shot of Gomes / Bernard /

Iwobi is two different players - got no idea which one is turning up from game to the next.

at 31 his best days are now behind him. We have to be looking at players who can bring energy and pace into the team. Not someone who takes the odd good free kick.

For me if we get Europe and tbh even if we don’t I’d give him another 12 month contract. Imo his price tag has always weighed him down in fans expectations.

He’s been as good as any for us in recent months.

For me, you can only afford to have one of James or Siggy in the starting 11. Forget Gomes, he doesn’t offer enough either defensively or in attack. Hopefully, we’ll be in Europe and so I’d keep Siggy in the squad. Gomes and Bernard are free to leave - I wouldn’t be upset if Iwobi left either. A top drawer right back and a top drawer right winger and our first 11 is good to go.

Hey gingerdan, look I know Rodriguez is class on his day, has a much higher ceiling than Siggy for sure. But other than the first half a dozen games he has also been very much in and out of games, and his availability has to be a concern - one thing you can't accuse Siggy of is not being available for selection.

You can see from the replies the opinion is very 50/ 50 on Siggy. Given how poor he has been for us I think that goes to show how decent he has been recently.

Both players are out of contract end of next season, although we have the option on Rodriguez, be interesting to see who CA chooses to stick around as we clearly need to swap one of them for someone with a little more energy/ pace.

I am a little hot and cold on Siggy which is about what his performance is. He is capable of some good football but hides for long periods. Long term he is not the answer, maybe as an impact sub.

Gomez gives the ball away. Rodrigues on the flank is an invitation for Teams to easy passage. Siggy is slow but does put a shift in.

Sigurdsson and davies were the 2 players i thought at the start of the season we should get rid of. Been made to eat a big dollop of humble pie. Davies been excellent of late and sigurdsson has improved. Like most of you I don't think sigurdsson James and or gomes have anywhere near enough pace therefore you can only have 1 in your starting 11. I'd give sig another 12 months, would like to see more games from james in preferred position as a central number 10. Gomes too slow and bernard just not worked out. Davies and allan battle it out for a shirt so healthy competition there. Dacoure has pace and great at getting up and down. Defence sorted but would love to keep hold of branthwaite. My main concern is goalkeeper (can he perform consistently? ) Lack of width especially on the right hand side. Would like to see us turn godfrey into a RB then no need for arrons? Keep iwobi as a squad player. Think we need a midfielder similar to dacoure but younger and a quality right winger. Also long term replacement for king (if he leaves) someone who will provide healthy competition for Calvert lewin and richarlison.

I think we need to settle on either Kean or Simms as a second striker. Kean has been operating on the right a lot for PSG so potential there. Doubt he wants to stay though so probably put eggs in simms basket. So few options out there up top, just doesn't feel worth spending money on a back up at this point.

Sobs your spot on
I’d break bank to get Grealish (our whole summer war chest) . Maddison too but dint think either r realistic at mo as they’ll only move to top CL clubs.
We need to find next star and develop hence Brands need new contract.
Who are thurs next star blues who we realistically could buy?
I think Aarons is and we r linked but vented midfielder box to box (who are getting rarer) imo is a priority for us.
Who? I don’t know! Blues your views?

Doucoure is no spring chicken he's 28 Jesus I am 41 so I must be ready for the knackers yard regarding Gomes I think he's much more effective playing 10 yards higher up the field he might of lost a bit of pace since his injury but he's still one of the best players I have seen with the ball he is so hard to knock off the ball its unreal and he can pick a pass out (poor v West Brom) but still a very useful player.

In jan Allan will be 31 and Decore will be 29.
What I am saying is that if Sigs is given a new contract we will have quite an aging midfield in x2 years .

Got to replace 1-2 of them over next couple of years like we have done with defence / forward.

{Ed077's Note - there's still a year and a half left on Siggy's contract so no need to hurry with a decision either way I think
