Just thinking about back up striker next year and the supply line from Digne. Would Benteke on a free transfer 1 year deal with option of second be such a bad idea?

He’s a cart horse with a poor strike record.
He’s 30 and his goal record last 4 seasons is poor
5 so far this season
2 the season before that
1 the season before that
3 the season before that

I thought we wanted champions league football or at least europa league football - do you genuinely think Benteke is a player that will help achieve that?

Maybe but we would get crosses for him more suited than Palace style. As I said back up not first choice. We can't throw millions at all positions need to pay attention to FFP.

{Ed077's Note - Benteke is on something around 100-120k. And he is really really poor. Surely there is someone decent in your academy

Ellis Sims for me ED077 doing really well at Blackpool learning his trade in an unforgiving league the only thing that would change my mind on that is if maybe a top top Championship club came calling for another loan as it will benefit him and us in the long term.

{Ed077's Note - but still Benteke would be a horrible choice as back up IMO

Spot on Ed. I’m sure cookie having a laugh with that suggestion.
We’ve got dcl, Richarlison and possibly king staying. Ellis Simms and Nathan broadhead from the academy.

Why would anyone want to waste money on benteke over the above - craziness.

{Ed077's Note - Yes exactly. Even if you were to look within, you can have one of Broadhead or Simms play a backup role on top of Josh King and Richarlison.

Surely Brands and Carlo can come up with many many better options than bloody Benteke.

Benteke - please say this is a joke. Have we not learnt anything in the last 5 years.
We need to buy quality rather than cheap options which need replaced over and over naisse, sabdro, Toson etc

We own a striker who is scoring for fun at PSG. If we could get CL then ideally he could stay - get Aarons and our squad is as good as anyone’s bar City.

I totally agree ED077 Benteke would be a massive mistake if simms did go on loan i would much rather use Richarlison as the back up striker.

I'd agree with signing if it was years ago when he was in his pomp with Villa, he looked decent back then. Apart from his age, he has been a shadow of his former self ever since he moved across the park so I'd leave well alone for all the reasons that others have posted above.
