I know this is a difficult question, but could someone explain, in layman terms, FPP, and how far it ties the club's hands in this transfer window.
When some pundits say we must sell before we buy, I assume they mean this in relation to the regulations, not in terms of cash availability.

{Ed002's Note - I am not going to go in to detail but if you take the total income and expenditure over a year for each of three seasons, extract the costs related to youth football and the infrastructure that gives you the basis of the FFP calculation. From a UEFA perspective owners can contribute funds to reduce/right off losses to the extent of €45M over a rolling three year period. For the FA, it is £30M a year. Adjustments have been made for the pandemic, but the Everton owner cannot simply throw money at the club for transfers. Clubs have to earn what they spend. The rules will be different when Everton drop in to the Championship/}

And that’s the reason why no on can ever catch the “big 6” or the other Europe biggies because they got to spend unrestricted for many years before FFP was introduced.

“When Everton drop into the Championship”?

Would the rules be the same for any of the big 6 if they dropped into the championship?

{Ed002's Note - Of course.}

Jus to put it into perspective. Everton have as much chance of signing Messi than dropping into the championship.

So why can Roman put his money into Chelsea and Man city buy players they haven't always had large amounts of money coming in but they spend all the same
Looks to me like not many clubs will be able to compete against the top four if that's the case
How are clubs going to increase there income without buying better players and moving up the league
It's a catch 22, dammed if you do dammed if you don't
All comes across a bit fishy if you ask me.

Spot on Skylark. FFP destroyer football. If anyone says “what about Leicester? ” It was 5000-1 for a reason.

Leicester proved its possible though. And they are still up there. I think our problem has been getting managers/ coaches who like this Barcelona type football. I enjoyed watching us whdn it was full blooded challenges znd hitting on the break. End of the day it's 11vs11 and we should have players who go into every single game looking to win. Albeit nan City at etihad, man utd at Trafford or them over the road. Need to beat what's in front of you. I'm looking forward to this season. I think in rafa we have one of the best managers we have had in a long time.

I honestly believe relegation could be the reset we need. it sounds crazy, but just look at how much better Villa's squad is now than the season they got relegated. What it would allow is us to bring in players who actually want to play for us.

That is the stupidest thing i have heard. How on earth would u being relegated be a good thing. We jave a owner with plenty of money willing to spend every penny he can to make us a force. Reset i agree but do that in how we go about acheiving our goal, so assess the recruitment and pay the big wage and fee for players who have a desire to win and show the world how good they are week in week out rather than players who go through the motions but still earn outrages wages. For example we have james, world class player when he decides to play on huge money and tim cahill who would put his life on the line for us evey single game. Granted there aren't many cahills around but the point is valid. We need to get the tim cahills who want to fight everytime they play and not players who think their name is enough to warrent their place in the team. Cahill, arteta, jags, baines, pinaar all quality players who would for the most part walk into this team cost us what? Maybe 20m. No ego just pure desire to play football.

Ed02, you need to sort your predictive text out, last line has typed dropped into the Championship, instead of dropped into the Champions League. :-)
