Ed002 apologies if this is stupid question, but if the Everton player that is currently under investigation is found guilty and then obviously can’t play for us again - does his value so to speak that we lose from being unable to sell him affect our financial situation either for the better or worse?

Just wondered if it is something that could be offset or it would put us in even more of a predicament with ffp?

{Ed002's Note - There is no povision to offset a player who is sacked/or leaves in FFP.}

Thanks for the reply Ed, disappointing that we may lose a player and have no financial benefit from it apart from his wages off the books.

So we lose the value of the player as an asset but of course we no longer pay his wages?

{Ed002's Note - If a player is sacked there would be an agreement over a departing fee the club would pay.}

Ed, surely if the said allegations against him are true and the club sacked him then we wouldn't have to give him a pay-off.

{Ed002's Note - No there would still be something.}

I would hope that clubs had insurance policies against losing players who are convicted of crimes and do prison sentences. This is not the first, Tony Kay comes to mind for example and for that matter big Dunc.

{Ed002's Note - No, they have insurance for players who are seriously injured. What they can do is buy him out of his contract and then sue him for the loss of his transfer value - but don't expect that to be a viable solution. There is a very good example where a club is owed the money by the player but there is zero chance they will ever get paid.}

That’s crazy, I’m not sure of any other line of work that if you were to be sacked because you’d broken the law and we’re facing a custodial sentence you’d get a pay off.

{Ed002's Note - It will be a matter of negotiation to end the contract.}

Clubs must have some crap lawyers if that is the case.

Surely if it came to a custodial sentence then the player would be in breach of their contract as they would not be able to play? Would that then not negate any pay off so to speak?

{Ed025's Note - its very complicated dan..

Agree Ed, very complicated indeed.
Whichever way it ends up going I can’t see the alleged individual playing for us again.

When it gets legal it always gets complicated. Don't forget we're still at the innocent until proven guilty stage and even if proven guilty there is an appeals process.

We've lost any chance of a transfer fee this window and an undetermined settlement of what's owing if we terminate the contract

Will he play for us again - depends if he is innocent or not or whether there is a trial and could he play awaiting trial?

It's a complicated mess and Everton will lose out whatever way it plays out.

If Everton has insurance for major injuries can't we activate Delphs.

Heaven forbid that it is true, it is a very sad state of affairs for all parties . Either way true or not his career in the UK is over, his family must be so distraught . They will have to move away as uk football fans would never let it go. It is so very sad, for the player, his family, the club and if true then for any victim and their family.

Ed002, you said there is a good example of a club owed money by a player but zero chance they'll ever get it. Is that Chelsea and Adrian Mutu? Or am i remembering much too far back and there are more recent examples? Thanks.

{Ed002's Note - Yes.}

Can't we just not sack him then fine him 2 weeks wages every time he doesn't show up for work? We'll be quids in.
