I see people calling for Academy players to get a go and contrasting our attitude with that of Liverpool.
I think that you need to bear in mind the contrasting circumstances. When a 16 Yr old comes in for Livetpool, he is coming into a team that works. There is relatively little responsibility on him. Just give and take a few easy passes until he gets comfortable and take it from there.
When we introduce a young player, we need him to perform and perform now.

Well if there good enough they should be able to.

I think what posters are eluding to is that our academy players are not developing into first team potentials, not a case of give them a go it appears they just are not good enough!

There is a huge difference between academy and first team football, physically, technically and especially psychologically. Stepping up what is in effect several levels, a young player needs the help of those around him. As a 17 year old who do want to make your debut alongside James Milner and Jordan Henderson or Mason Holgate and Alex Iwobi.
Of the current crop of Everton players there's only Andros Townsend that I would be happy with guiding a youngster.

Glennk I’d rather them make their debuts instead of Holgate and iwobi rather than alongside them.

They would then hopefully have Keane, Coleman and digne in the back line with them and doucore, Allan, Townsend alongside them in midfield.

We go through this debate every season.

Top sides youth players are surrounded by world class players. They are developed in a culture of winning, and as mentioned above are able to be eased into the team without too much pressure on their shoulders. Often in matches that are already won.

For us, every time a youth shows any promise the fan base goes into a frenzy that is often impossible to live up to. Made worse by our disillusionment with the first team

We are very rarely winning games comfortably enough to risk playing youngsters. Bringing them in and losing would not help them at all. So we get stuck in a status quo.

We call for them to be played, because we'd rather see them than than over paid show ponies, yet when they do get given a chance they get more stick than anyone else - Tom Davies for example. It's just no win for anyone.

Sorry EFCone do you not think Tom Davies deserves stick for his performances?
He made his debut at 17 and is now 23 he has not improved and I don’t think that is down to the fans.

I can see both sides to the argument but look at the top young talent Southampton bring through all the time. they don't have world class players round them. Shaw, Walcott, mane, etc.

Leeds bring players through too, arsenal recently, Chelsea too (although they stockpile the best kids. that's another argument)

Like in any job, it takes time to learn and perfect your art. kids show promise in youth and reserve set up so deserve a chance at the top level.

Then they need patience from staff and fans alike to make mistakes and learn from them.

That is the ultimate phrase, learn from your mistakes. become a better player.

Davies has not kicked on since he started with the 1st team, which is why he is getting so much stick. Barkley was exactly the same. spent years making the wrong decision in final third and now can't even get a loan move.

Look at other young players who are developing out on loan. Gallagher at Palace for example.

We need to get these younger players out onload to lower prem clubs or top championship. not league 1 and 2.

Then when they come back support them and give them time.

He has had stick since pretty much since his second season. On current performance fair enough, but it's he has been bashed season after season. If they aren't world beaters within a season we turn on them.

DCL may not have come through the academy, but even he is a case in point. Was getting flack off our fans last season for no good reason at all other than not being able to finish 100% of his chances.

Davies has had more than enough chances prove his worth, and sadly hasn’t kicked on. That can happen. But at least he has been given the opportunity.

Tom davies has been getting stick for the simple reason he is not good enough how many chances does the lad need to impress every manager does the same thing with him use him as a bench player. He is a waste of space offers the team nothing can't do the simple things.

There playing football not doing open heart surgery why do they need someone to hold there, hand if you good enough your good enough.
