I think we are getting towards the end of huge sales - realistically only Kenny, Toson, and Delph stand out who are all end of contract in summer so any money is a bonus but at least end in site.

Sigi will get sorted and hopefully fairly in accordance to law. Kean money next year

In Jan I think we will get Longstaff, a right back and a forward.

I can’t see anyone coming in for DCL, Richarlison or Gray (Gray bring the one I’d worry about though)

Keane, Sigi, Delph, Toson and James wages - we could hopefully get a couple of gems.

Judging on Rafa bringing in Andros and Gray in the summer, we won’t need much cash.

{Ed025's Note - fair point GB..

Gray won't be going anywhere. Tosun as good as Rondon, so that's how bad he is.
Think we have always had the money, it's the wage bill that has been the biggest problem. Club now getting on top of this. Right back has to be the priority now.

{Ed025's Note - FFP is the biggest problem brass mate..

Ed if we get our wage bill down to say 60% of our income then we can start to look at signing players. trouble was we were above 80% at one point. Getting rid of Bernard and James has helped, just need to move on a couple more of the high earners now. Think we all know who they are, and strangely enough them going will have very little impact on the team.

{Ed025's Note - it does help considerably brass, but we have to stop all this buying for the sake of it and concentrate on specific needs mate, we have already seen in the recruitment of andros and demari that its not the amount you spend and for me this is the way forward, dont get me wrong i want high quality players and i know that will come at a price but they have to be the correct fit for us..

We are, it seems, makeing a big effort to keep Richalison, let's hope it works, but I really wish we were making the same kind of effort to keep Mina, I think he is not only are best c/ back, but he seems willing and able to carry the ball forward.

JCW I like mina and would like to keep him however rumours are he wants out with a move to Italy potentially on the cards.

Apparently we sent Duncan to watch Harry Souttar at Stoke as his potential replacement.

Not sure how much of above is true as just a rumour I’ve read.

I think you need to think of wages and transfer spend separately really.

Transfer spend is spread across the length of contract for Ffp, so we will still be carrying a big hit for a year or two due to all the spend in the last 3/ 4 years. Because players like Iwobi can't be sold for anything like what we pay for them it is likely selling him will just cause us to take a bigger hit on ffp as we still have 3/ 5ths of his fee to hit us. If we sell him that hits us there and then so unless we get 20m plus for him it actually makes things worse in the short term not better.

Sorry Efcone don’t get what you’re saying.

Not sure how selling a player can adversely affect our ffp?

If we have a player we’ve bought previously and are still paying off the fee but sell him then surely that wouldn’t adversely affect ffp.

We’d still have to pay outstanding fee which we would have if we had kept player.

However even if we sold at a loss we would still have some income coming in from the sale and we would also have the wages off the bill so surely that would be a positive impact on ffp?

Efcone, I'm not entirely sure how ffp works but I've never heard selling a player could adversely affect selling players for a loss.

I agree ed, which is why we should be prioritising the right back position ahead of all others.

{Ed025's Note - yes mate..

The fee is spread over the contract term, presuming the club amortised the fee over the contract length so the fee and wages are equally crucial to the prem league profit and sustainability on a yearly basis.

For instance, iwobi cost say 35 Mill plus 80k a week on a 5 year deal. He costs us 11million a year for 5 years. 3 years left on his contract, if we get less than 21million for him then the difference goes as a loss on the balance sheet. Its not sustainable.

Yes we save his wages but he will need replacing so they don't help with our P/ S unless his replacement is on lower wages.

Or we don’t replace him. I mean who would notice?

I think Smit pretty much explained it. The one thing I'm not sure about with ffp is what happens when a contract is extended. If it works similar to other systems then the remaining 'balance' of a players fee is then spread over the length of the new contract. Any ideas Smit?

If they are offered a new contract then the club could choose to amortise the remainder of the amount owed over that period instead of the original shorter period. Maybe a club who paid a big fee and was up against it with FFP might do that if they offered the player an improved contract after a year or so.

If the original contract term is up then the player only costs the club the wages. Selling these players means all the sale money less the agents fees are classed as profit on the balance sheet.
