People on here blaming Brands for signing everyone and his mate. Have a read of Phil kirkbrides article in the echo. Might open your eyes a little.

We are a mess Woburn

Who is running this club on a day by day basis

Moshiri - away 90% of the time
An 80 year old Bill Kenwright
Barratt Baxendale who's more interested in Everton in the Community and find another job away from Everton
The Finance Director who let us get into the FFP mess we are in

Or Rafa who should be concentrating on getting a failing team to play better than he has them currently doing?

I just give up be. I remember thinking when Moshiri arrived, finally we have the clout to compete with the top teams. Yet look at us now, how did we end up in this position?
You know hindsight is a great thing and it’s easy to say this was wrong, and that was wrong, and their to blame. But at the end of the day their is no point having a Director of Football if you are not going to let him Direct.
So we are now in a position we’re the manager and the owner will decide on the clubs transfer policy. But in a way hasn’t Moshiri been doing that already?
I pray that they get this right because in the sixty two years I have followed this great club, I have never been as worried about the direction we are going in as I am now.

I think you are right Bob

Ever since Moshiri bought the club the majority of decisions on managers, buying players or player contracts have been made by Moshiri, his advisors or the numerous managers we have gone through

That is why we are in the mess we are in

So no change now.

Yep I agree Bob sadly I fear brands was held back and over ruled constantly, then ultimately sidelined when rafa arrived. For me I'm surprised he stuck at it so long.

On a plus note I have a feeling Rafa will be willing to say no to Moshiri if Moshiri wants a certain player bought.

Brands never struck me as that type of person - if he was I’d imagine we wouldn’t have ended up with so much dross.

We’ve got to get behind Rafa and support him all the way.

Agre with this thread.
Blaming Brands is not the answer:
Our long term problems:
*Under 23s that are more interested in winning trophies than instilling any football philosophy or brining players through.
*Loads of dodgy non-Brands signings
*5 "permanent" managers in 6 years all with their own ideas
*Lack of squad depth
*Financial Fair Play slow motion car crash not highlighted by those responsible and/ or warnings totally ignored
*DoF role constantly undermined
*Constant injury crises
*Players looking significantly less fit than opponents
*Poor tactics on the field

These are the responsibility of the training staff, managers, U23 staff, finance director, board, medical staff.
I think that he's been sacked because he went public with what had been a grievance he's held, probably for a long time, and so he can be the scapegoat.

My prediction: Brands will get a good job somewhere else where he'll be allowed to do his job and he'll do well while we'll continue to struggle until things radically change which I hope happens sooner rather than later.

In reply to BoblatchBlue I think I was more concerned under Peter Johnson. Not that we aren't in a perilous position.
