Anthony Gordon was on loan to PNE last season and reports did not indicate that he was playing well. Yet this season at the age of 20 he has been a standout performer for us. He obviously has taken his chance well but he could have been ignored and not had much playing time. I just hope that we have a few more like him coming up who just need the chance to shine.

Today showed what a little good coaching can do to underperforming players. I can't believe we had such a great team performance with Holgate, Kenny, Iwobi and Keane playing. Long may it continue.

I think it’s hard to tell with loan players. Serge Gnabry was told he wasn’t good enough for West Brom.

Clubs often take young players on loan and don’t play them, because they can’t be relied upon. It’s very weird but it happens all the time.

Without knowing and pure speculation Gordon could have said I will take my chance show what i'm about, prove everyone wrong, hopefully a few more players take up that challenge.

BM I think if you ask Preston supporters they will tell you he was their best player by a mile. Manager was reluctant to play him because at the time Preston were struggling, and he didn’t feel Gordon was strong enough and wanted grafters in the team. Which is ironic when you see just how hard the lad works now. But who knows maybe that was the little nudge the lad needed.

A lot comes down to the belief the manager has in the player, ad the belief the player has in themselves
Lampard seems the type of manager to draw the performances out of young talent so hopefully we will see that from Gordon and other youngsters
And wasn’t Bayern sniffing round Gordon a couple of years back?

We sent Barkley out on loan to Leeds and they didn’t play him. But it was Warnock in charge.

Lampard admires talent but his DNA us hard work and practice, practice, practice. Keane mentioned it yesterday, the intensity in training and freedom in the game. Your paid big bucks, mess up a pass go and get it back.
