This is a really tricky one though isn’t it?

Why is one persons believe seen as more important than another persons?

If his believe/ religion does not believe in different aspects of lgbtq is it therefore wrong of him to stand up for his believes and not wear the shirt?

Have we not got to the point where a lot of what is done is more of an actual tick box exercise than really dealing with any issues? The taking the knee all well and good but has it actually done anything? I’d say no, particularly when you read about the racist abuse that still occurs at games. The abuse Toney and Henrys families allegedly suffered at the game the other day clearly highlights it’s not changed much.

I think Jake Daniels coming out is outstanding and one of the bravest things in football - I reckon his actions will do far more for the lgbtq community than players wearing a rainbow shirt because they are told to.

Actions an individual chooses are far more important than actions they are made to do.

I don't believe he has let himself down at all. He is perfectly entitled to believe in what he wants to.
His religion, his country and presumably his friends and family have a contrary view to our own.
Whilst we may believe we are correct to hold the views we do, he believes he is correct to hold the views he does.
The massive problem currently is that no one is allowed to hold a view that doesn't correspond to the majority. We are told what we should believe, indeed freedom of speech is under significant attack.
Whilst I have absolutely no problem with whatever a persons sexuality is, equally it should be a right to have an opposite opinion.
That right should apply for any topic/ view.

People are being persecuted, jailed and murdered for being gay.

Don’t hide behind gastroenteritis- come out and say he is homophobic

Only reason jake Daniel’s had to come out like that in first place is because of people like gauye.

Don’t really want to get in to too much debate here, but Ed are you suggesting that everyone should have the same view for society to move forward?
Surely there has to be room in society for people to have differing opinions?

Iit is crazy in this day and age that there is still all the bigotry, racism, hatred, homophobia etc, but unfortunately don’t think it will completely change.

Regarding Gueye and his decision not to wear the rainbow shirt - now to most of us that seems a stupid thing for him to do and some will say he’s homophobic for it, but that’s probably because of the way we have been brought up.

I don’t support him in his actions but can understand to some degree why he has done it as he’s standing up for his own beliefs. In Senegal homosexuality is still a crime punishable by up to 5yrs in prison apparently - so clearly he’s been brought up to think that way and hasn’t budged from those beliefs.

Which brings us back to how we decide whose beliefs are more important.

Football as a whole hasn’t helped itself with the lgbtq issue either by staging the World Cup in Qatar another country that homosexuality is illegal in.

Let’s hope Jake Daniels brave actions in coming out is a watershed moment for the lgbtq community within football as guaranteed he’s not the only gay footballer.

I think the more gay footballers we see the more it will become the norm and for want of a better term “accepted”. The younger fans need to see this so it
does indeed become the norm.

Sadly the last few days have once again reminded us that football is rife with bigotry and hate (even within our own club) .

I’ve said it before, I can’t believe a World Cup in Qatar is actually being allowed to take place.

Jake Daniels is a real story of hope, but it’s a shame that in 2022 it’s actually a story at all.

Freedom of choice is one of the cornerstones of democracy, if Gana chooses not to wear a shirt for whatever reason then so be it, he can and probably will suffer the consequences of that, people don't like to be told what to do.

{Ed001's Note - no it is not, that is a fallacy. People are not free otherwise there would be no crimes as anything you do is ok under freedom of choice.}

But Gana has committed no crime, you can't liken his actions to somebody commiting violent crime, disagree with his actions by all means, but that is all anyone can do.

{Ed001's Note - but he is in breach of his contract, so it is not all anyone can do. PSG would be perfectly within their rights to fine him or sack him. By the way racism is a crime, why should homophobia be any different?}

too many people trying to save the world. What has it got to do with us what someone believes in if it’s his religion then so be it. Who is to say what is right and what is wrong it’s his choice. The problem here is one person due to his beliefs refuses to wear a shirt to support homophobia then other people like to get on their high horses and condem him now do I agree with his action no my kids are raised that everyone is the same regardless of skin colour sexuality ect ect but I won't condem a man for having a different opinion to me that's his right and people condemning him could be seen as doing the same thing he is they are not willing to understand what he believes are.
