I have been reading through the reports today Ed and i think that is a good deal when you throw our predicament in the equation.

40m for a player who is, with all due respect, relatively unproven/ raw is a good deal imo.

Chuck in a striker who i understand hasn't set the world alight but he has never truly been given a proper run in teams he has been at. When he has been given backing his returns weren't too bad.

21 in 38 for Liege
17 in 36 for Marseille
7 in 10 for Dortmund on loan
14 in 33 for Besiktas loan

25 in 45 for Belgium (i remember him keeping Rom out of their side at times) .

If we can get him in for essentially a free at 28 years old, i think that would quell a lot of concern.

We are crying out for attacking reinforcements so hopefully would use some of the 40m to get an attacking player in who is adept at playing wide or centrally.

{Ed025's Note - you make a good case for him there BN mate..

My concern with batshuyai is he only managed 2 goals in 18 games at Crystal Palace.

BN - There’s more than likely a reason he’s not been given a proper go at teams.

I appreciate that but he did manage 5 in 11 with them the loan spell prior.

I think it is fair to say that Palace were not a team (certainly at that time) that would see a lot of the ball in games, let alone have it around the oppositions box where strikers can do damage.

By all accounts Frank likes him as a player and his character. Understand the concerns with the Palace record but he showed decent figures at the clubs mentioned above and was starting for Belgium and keeping Rom out of the team, who fans were saying is the best striker we have had for decades.

The lad is 28 and would be essentially a free transfer. I am not sure who people want us to get in if they don't see value in this type of deal mate.

My concern is he’s had a go in the premier league and never really started games or set the world alight in the league.

He did well last year in Turkey scoring 14 goals in 33 games.

However if you put that in context the season before we signed him Cenk Tosun scored 8 in 16 and the season before that 20 in 33 and we saw how he faired in the premier league.

Scoring regularly in Turkey does not necessarily transfer to the premier league.

If he comes I’ll support him and hope he does well for us - however I wouldn’t be rushing to bring him in.

He didn't really get a go in the Premier League though as most of his apps came from bit part minutes at the end of games for Chelsea and he was trying to dislodge a prime Diego Costa who arguably won them the league that season and then Olivier Giroud and Morata, hardly tin pot strikers themselves.

His first spell at palace he managed 5 in 11. Granted the 2nd spell wasn't so good but think of playing up top for that Palace side - hard task for any man.

I appreciate scoring in Turkey doesn't necessarily translate to the Prem but you could use examples of world class strikers who never cut it in the Prem but scored hatfuls elsewhere i. e. the great Shevchenko.

At least we have the French league, the Bundesliga and Internationals to also score him off and when you take everything into account - our desperate need for multiple strikers, not just one. He is 28 and he would be on a free when we are tight for cash.

Put it this way he cannot be any worse than Rondon or putting Antony Gordon up front as a false 9.

He hasn't got any pace and he isn't a target man so how would we play him?
Hes better playing with a 10 but we don't play a 10.
I struggle to see how and where he would play for us.
Comments about how Palace played when he was there are interesting as we are about the same as them now.

Play him as a striker. There are more than 2 types after all.

Him being a natural finisher with either foot offers us a different look than a target man that can't finish or join up play, or someone who is fast and has no end product.

Walks into our side, that's how he plays for us. You make out we have a definitive style of play, when we have anything but.
