Would any modern day Everton players be considered club legends?

We have the likes of Dixie Dean, Big Nev, the holy trinity midfield etc who I think we all agree are club legends.
Did the likes of Cahill, Coleman or Baines do enough to be considered in that group?

Just thought I'd do something to get away from our current mob of under achievers.

I think it's all about perspective and what they meant to the club when they were there. Coleman, Baines and Cahill are all club legends in my view not just for the way they played for the shirt but for how they conduct themselves as people .

JP I hope will be considered a club legend if he stays until his contract expires in 2027. It will be interesting if he will be ranked on a par with Big Nev if he see's out his career with us especially with younger supporters.

{Ed025's Note - hmmmm, you are comparing a Rolls Royce with a Lada there imo sa, JP is a very good shot stopper and has earned us a lot of points with some really excellent saves, but his reluctance to come for crosses and not having command of his area means he can never be counted as a great for me mate, not even in my top 10 best ever Everton keepers im afraid, it really does show how far we have fallen when an average goalie like him is being lauded as a "legend" by some, but its all about opinions i suppose..

Simple if Nev was about now then Pickford wouldn’t get anywhere near the first team.

Think same application especially if Martyn and Howard were available nowadays.

Jordans been a very good servant but "legend" is stretching it tho still time to win us something in his career then worth the talk again.

Think he's a great shot stopper ed 025 am afraid mate yes he's irrational likes to get involved in things he doesn't but his ball distribute is pretty good and there was some England fans screaming for him to be dropped after he's the first keeper during my time to help us win a penalty shoot out against Columbia even heard some England fans and arsenal fans saying ramsdale is better yet he's just joined Southampton am not sure about the legends thing if he's stays he's been a great servant i have no doubt but what justifies being a legend is it amount of games you have played is it winning trophies just easy word to throw about the in the game but just my opinion.

{Ed025's Note - hes not a problem for us Andy and hes a very decent keeper, just not in the same league as the likes of Big Nev, Gordon West, Nigel Martin etc, just my opinion of course mate..

Bringing back good memories Ed025. Gordon West was keeper when I started supporting the club. Great player.

{Ed025's Note - yeah pgp me too mate, thats when we were good..

Westy could throw the ball right on to Joe Royle’s head. No need to hoof it aimlessly down the pitch.

I’d like to hear your top 10 keepers Ed25. Who would be your number 1 number 1?

{Ed025's Note - definitely Big Nev BR..

Sorry, but I can’t put Jordan Pickford and.

Neville Southall in the same sentence.

{Ed025's Note - nor me Ace, goalkeeping has certainly changed in recent times where now their feet are more important than their hands, Nev used to catch most of what Jordan punches and anyone who had the audacity to enter his 6 yard box ran the risk of being flattened, one of the all time great keepers for me mate..

One hundred percent Ed25. I personally have never seen a better combination of outstanding agility, dominance and leadership in a goalkeeper. He’s not one of the best for me. He is the best there has ever been.

His injury in 86 is the reason we came second best in the cup and the league. I’ve met him many times and he is the most humble professional there could be.

I think JP is great for us but my goodness, Big Nev is different gravy.

One last word on it. I see JP getting over animated many time with the defence berating them and waving his arms around every time the ball goes over the bar or out for a corner. Then I remember that Big Nev would just give the back four a look that would cause them all to regret ever having chosen to play the beautiful game.

Let’s never compare JP with the greatest keeper ever to play on these shores.

{Ed025's Note - he really is a nice guy Ace, enjoyed a bevvy with Nev at the Links hotel in Llandudno many years ago with him and his dad, no airs or graces just a very decent honest individual, love the fella..

He was world class Ed - he’d top my list.

I still think Pickford would make my top ten but there would be a fair few in front of him. Big Nev, Martyn (what a steal at £800k) , West and Howard would all be ahead of him. He’d be squabbling it out from 6-10. He’s kept us in many games. I’d rank him above the likes of Myhre, Wright, Gerrard (remember how bad he was? ) , Simonsen, Mimms and Arnold. I think you’re being a bit harsh on him not to make the top ten….

{Ed025's Note - i probably am BR, i was probably trying to highlight the gulf in class between Big Nev and JP mate..

My favourite Nev performance was the FA cup in ‘95. Won us the game in my opinion.

Have to agree with ed25, JP is a quality keeper and has been very good for us at times but he is nowhere near the level Big Nev was at back in the day. No comparison whatsoever.
