SSN now reporting Rom has said he definitely won't sign a new deal. Anyone surprised. Even with new people in charge, same old Everton.

Ander Barkley

1.) 15 Mar 2017 12:59:58
"SSN reporting" that makes it true then?
And why "same old Everton"?
I can't see any rational connection between your two statements. Let's wait and see, shall we, before jumping to irrational judgements about things none of us know anything about!

2.) 15 Mar 2017 15:21:32
Even if he has said that, why does it make it 'same old everton'? If he wants to go, there isn't much we can do about it other than get as much as we possibly can. I don't know whether you expected us to be fighting bayern/ barce/ madrid and so on by now, but that's just sheer negativity for the sake of being negative.

3.) 15 Mar 2017 16:04:05
" same old everton "
buying quality players for £20 million plus, planning a new ground, new owners, goodison tarted up, one of the best managers in the league, sitting 7th in the table, very good chance of european football next year, realistic talk of bringing rooney back. giving the majority of supporters real optimism for the future, season ticket sales at an all time high

yeah, mate you are right " same old everton"

4.) 15 Mar 2017 17:09:21
This may sound a bit stupid but I don't mean to be but this may help you lot because you can splash the cash everywhere and not relay on one player to score goals. You can go and get 2sts.

5.) 15 Mar 2017 19:48:47
That's a fair point. I'm old enough to remember Howard Kendall selling Gary Lineker shortly after his impressive World Cup. We know what happened in the following season.

6.) 16 Mar 2017 11:56:29
Is anyone surprised with the way lukaku is treating us I think it's the way he has treated all the clubs he has been at.

German outlet reporting that we are interested in Son, from Tottenham.

Looked a good player in Germany, but has struggled in the Prem and I don't feel he is a player we need. At around £24m I would think we'd be better looking elsewhere.

Don't want to read into things too much, but a bit odd that Ross was used as the central model for the new (terrible) kit considering the contract situation?

Absolutely gutted for Seamus, hope he gets well soon.

what's everyone's opinion on how we should set up against Liverpool, without him, though?

Think the simple solution would be to put Holgate in straight to right back, which I wouldn't mind, but I prefer him in the middle rather than fullback. I've heard calls for Kenny to be given a chance (I think it's too early for him and the Derby is way too big a game) . Also thought about the potential or us going 3-4-3 with Lennon as the right wing back.

Obviously it makes no difference what we think, but would like to hear people's thoughts or solutions.

Been said before on here, but I think it's worth acknowledging again how much it seems like we've dodged a bullet, missing out on Kone.

He's not even like Gueye, either, where he is just in a bad team. His flaws are so glaring and fundamental that it's worrying we where so keen to sign him.

Ander Barkley

1.) 29 Oct 2016 16:14:42
I think it was only his pace that we would benefit from at the back other than that his positional awareness is woeful at best.

01 Sep 2016 14:51:33
Definitely not going to rule him out until we see him first hand, but I've done what I always do when we sign a player which is ask the fans of his old team their opinion, and I've got to say the feedback about Valencia hasn't been good.

He's not the only person I've heard from, but a direct quote from a guy on the West Ham rumours is:

"The guy has all the attributes to be a good player, but he has been awful. everytime he has the ball its lost, from controlling the ball or stumbling who knows. whether he is low on confidence or its something else. every west ham fan could not wait for him to go. we could not understand why he is still getting picked to play. you never know a fresh start could do him good. but me for one so happy I don't have to watch him lose the ball anymore. "

As I said, I'm not going to rule him out and perhaps a change of scenery and management is what he needs, but I would say he's certainly not the caliber of player I was hoping for.

Same said for Gana, Hardy and Mahrez. All recruited by who? O yea, our director of football! Think the people at Everton are the right people making them type of decisions. Not me or you Ander Barkley. I'm all for people having their own opinions and expressing them but have some faith in our club. Just a little even would be good.

{Ed025's Note - some of our posters think its fifa 16 NBTB, the real world knows how hard it is to secure any player of quality, all you can do is offer the best deals you can and hope they are willing to come which i believe we did, the lure of london and CL football will always come first im afraid mate..

2.) 01 Sep 2016 18:47:02
That's not true. I spoke to Villa fans after we signed Gana and every one said he was quality, I spoke to Leicester fans when they where promoted and while obviously no one foresaw just how good they would be, They all knew they where both good players. This is a player who's own fans say he is terrible.

I've said this before, these people in charge may well be there for a reason, but this perception that everything they do must be 100% the best decision is absurd. You're forgetting that someone who was deemed the right man for the job said we should buy Niasse, Kone, McGeady, Bilyaletdinov and Kroldrup.

3.) 01 Sep 2016 20:30:00
Ander I'm not getting into an argument over who's a good player and who's not. The point is them players were way undervalued and way underrated at the time they were signed. In hindsight we all know they are top class. Walsh knew that before anyone. Hence why he got them so cheap.

Never said he is right 100% of the time. He certainly knows more about what players to recruit than anyone I know. That's the point. He's the man with the experience and know how. That's all I'm saying. I have every faith in him.

If you don't fair enough. Hate when people write a player off before he has even kicked a ball for us. I'm more inclined to reserve judgement until the chap gets a proper chance. In my books that's the least a player should get.

If he turns out to be sh*te I still don't agree with the abuse some players get. At least its excusable when he's given a chance rather than barely being a new player for 24 hours.

4.) 01 Sep 2016 20:34:08
OK Ander your last paragraph says you won't write him off. That's what I like to hear. You also say he's not the calibre of player you expected.

That takes me back to the same point of giving him a chance and the signings Walsh made of Vardy, Mahrez, Kante and Gueye. They weren't considered a high 'calbre'. Look how they turned out. The players have to start somewhere and Vardy shows it can happen at anytime in a players career.

Not having a go Ander just banter really.

I've got to say I have quite mixed feelings about last night. On one hand I'm disappointed, on the other I'm actually fairly happy and at the same time I feel a bit smug;

(Gonna get the smug bit out first) I told you not to get your hopes up about us signing absurd players like Isco or James and that we'd probably get none - and I was told to stop being so negative - and I told you Sissoko is an absolute scumbag who we don't want anywhere near our club, which he has 100% confirmed again.

Despite those apparent disappointments, though, I'm surprisingly content with the window. I feel like all the signings so far have started brilliantly and for me the only position we HAD to strengthen was striker and even if a poor Enner Valencia on loan isn't ideal, it is 10x better than Niasse and he can definitely offer something different to Rom!

While there is no doubt that whoever is in charge of our negotiations is STILL totally incompetent, I'm kind of glad we only signed one player we needed rather than 5 we don't and feel like the squad is in good shape for the season (or at least until January when we can reassess the situation) .

I think this whole window has just been typical of Everton, though: Getting our hopes way up just so they can be dashed, but if you look at it without the roller-coaster ride of anticipation, it's been a very good window for us.

1.) 01 Sep 2016 11:19:47
As RK has said, it is going to take 2 years until he has the Team and Squad capable of playing the way he wants. I do agree about the negotiators and their seeming ability to snatch a loss from the jaws of a win but Mr Moshri does not yet have overall control, once that happens he will be able to put his stamp on the Club. Onwards and upwards.

2.) 01 Sep 2016 11:38:20
Its not just EFC most clubs go through the same sort of things, money being allegedly earmarked for transfers that just don't happen. Look a the gunners with the exception of this season its been like that for them for ages. IMO we need to give SW and RK more time to assess what they actually need and have enough time to assess some of the less profile players. the realists among us understand this is not going to be an quick fix but it will be a damn site easier than it would have been with the new management on board. COYB.

Keane would likely be first choice as he'd walk into or defence. Gray shouldn't even be being considered.

would love him. Not the goal threat of Rom, but is the best i've seen at backing in and bringing other players in. Would work fantastically with Klaasen (who is known for getting goals) and would hopefully get the best from Kev, too.

I agree with it's the you Eddy in the sense that his agent is probably at the root of it all and has truly m'ed him over, but as JMW says, he's not a kid anymore and should never have treated the club he couldn't have become a legend At in the way he has. If he comes oh the and apologises, everyone will forgive him, just whether he is smart enough too.

{Ed002's Note - Why to such an embarrassing set of supporters. You are turning yourselves in to a joke.}

JMW, have you actually watched Maguire this year? He's probably the most technically able centre back in the league after Stones and Luiz. He's not just some old fashioned meathead like he looks, he isn't incredibly composed and drives into the midfield like Stones used to, as well as being able to pick out an pass. would be a great addition.

Ander Barkley

{Ed025's Note - he can be a bit gung ho at times ander but he is certainly talented mate..

I live in Huddersfield at the moment and have been to about 10 home games. Absolutely quality player; easily top half Prem, but not a position we need to add more bodies to.

The way I look at it; Koeman has done everything right so far and we've been going in the right direction, but there is still strong hints of Martinez's influence in the team. Hopefully this will be ironed out over time and we'll stop throwing away points like this.

I agree he seems a good lad, and I respect any player who really tries for the back up teams, but he'll simply never be good enough for the first team, I'm afraid. Doesn't deserve to be treated disrespectfully, but does need to leave.

Completely agree. We've never had a player I feel more conflicted over. Week in, week out he seems to play terribly, miscontrolling every touch, standing on the ball and missing chances, yet somehow his goal scoring record is brilliant. It's almost like Rooney for England in the way you watch him and wonder why people think he's good, then hear he's actually scored 10 in 10 even though you barely remember a positive contribution.

I would say I'd prefer a player with a more rounded game, but our scouts history of striker choices is disasterous, and he's clearly the best we've had in decades, so I guess we'll just have to shut up and take the good with the bad.

Agree. Neither have been at their best lately, there's no denying that, but deriding them helps no one (especially not Ross who has shown himself to not have the strongest mental fortitude) . They both need patience, time and SUPPORT.

I don't get all the fuss over this issue. To me it seemed like we
a) lost out on a player we wanted and
b) couldn't shift a player who wanted to move

Claiming we pulled out of the first to keep the second is simply a decent way to cover our embarrassment and reconcile with McCarthy. I don't believe for a second we pulled out because of McCarthy, but I have no problem with the excuse and don't understand why it's such a hot topic.
