Morning Eds,
It’s reported that Barcelona will need to offload a few players now they have signed Torres. Who do you think will leave and where do you think they will end up?

BR2021-22

{Ed002's Note - A good question but you need to ask on the European pages.}

1.) 01 Jan 2022 23:17:38
C’mon Ed2 - this is an Everton fan you’re talking to… it could take decades before I get into the Europe pages or close to qualifying for it!

{Ed002's Note - It is a very good question and that is the place to ask sadly.}

A mate of mine just pointed out that Mr Tumble (BBC kids programme) has been at Everton football club…

Great to see Everton supporting the community but could they have chosen a different show given Richy’s antics this season?

BR2021-22

1.) 27 Jun 2022 21:03:02
Wouldn’t surprise me if MR TUMBLE was there to sign as our new holding midfielder lol. Probably a step to far but nothing surprises me anymore.

2.) 27 Jun 2022 21:21:16
Better option than Winks Con81?

3.) 27 Jun 2022 21:52:22
Lol I’d rather have MR Bloby than winks.

There’s been a few comments on here about the Tarkowski deal being a bad one. If we get the deal done (and you’ve got to remember this is Everton here) then I’d consider it a decent acquisition. Burnley had much lower goals conceded than us, he was consistently playing, not injury prone or suspended, knocking on the door of international team and is on a free. Given our defensive issues, this could be what we need. The youth aren’t quite ready to step up at CB and the two senior CBs have been injured or woeful at times this season. As long as we aren’t paying wages that will cost a fortune, and throw FFP into the mix, this might be the type of signing we he save to rely on this summer.

If he comes, good luck to the lad and help sort out our back line.

1.) 15 Jun 2022 07:17:21
I think he is going to be a very shrewd signing. Better than any centre half's we have at club. Just need a few signings with promise. I sick of us constantly going for players that are not wanted by there clubs. Harry winks is as inspiring as Tom cleverly was. got to be much better out there willing to join us.

2.) 15 Jun 2022 07:52:34
I rate him too. Think he’ll do well.

3.) 15 Jun 2022 09:09:50
The plus with Tarkowski is he’s a leader and that is something we haven’t got in the team.
Would not surprise me if we do confirm the signing he ends up being captain.

4.) 15 Jun 2022 09:47:57
Spot on Dan. Think he will bring on Godfrey too, back four has lacked a vocal leader for sometime now.

5.) 15 Jun 2022 15:01:21
Have probably come across a bit negative on here lately but I'm with you re tarkowski, I think he is a great signing.

6.) 16 Jun 2022 01:09:18
I'm not actually a fan of Tarkowski and don't believe he improves our defence by replacing Keane/ Holgate. Saying that he also doesn't worsen it. Just much of a muchness for me.
But could be a worthwhile move if indeed we do manage to sell Keane. Keane's current wages plus whatever transfer fee we receive should cover the outlay of Tarkowski's wages and whatever signing bonus there was, and maybe nab a million or two extra. It's not a lot admittedly but every little bit matters towards balancing the books.

Now we are safe, we need to have a good look at how we got ourselves into this mess so we can avoid it in the future. Many people on here will blame Rafa; others players; some the owners…

Moving forward, we have to sort out the squad and get some sort of decent football going again. We can’t change the ownership, we can’t pick the manager and we can’t pick the signings. However, who do you think we should look to keep, sell and areas to strengthen?

For me, we need to sort out CB. We’ve missed a leader and strength at the back. Too many goals have come this year from comical errors which should never of happened.

We also need to sort out a striker to play second fiddle to Richy and DCL (if they stay) . We can’t go as long as we did this year without a credible threat. Rondon just didn’t live up to that billing.

There are several players who will leave and have been deadweights for a while like Tuson and Sigs. I’m sure there are plenty more we need to get off the books in order to sort out the wages mess.

As for Lampard - he’s got the team playing for each other again and he probably deserves another season (or half… let’s hope he’s not another Mike Walker)

The recruitment has been terrible. The scouting has been lazy and unimaginative. We need to change our transfer approach. Going after known and name players has mostly brought us overpaid, overvalued and overrated players. We need to be more ruthless with players who just don't make the grade. Gomes should have played his last game ages ago as an example. He is so bad, just don't okay him and try a young lad there if needs be (Onayango) as he can't do any worse. Need to have a clear plan in what areas to strengthen and how as many transfer windows as seen some areas neglected some some areas bought too much in one area, for example collecting Left wingers, having loads of no.10s or loaning a winger who won't actually okay when we have terrible issues elsewhere in the pitch. Smart scouting to unearth talent, not name picking is a big one imo.

2.) 20 May 2022 09:21:57
Is it the scouting or is it being controlled by certain agents I'm not sure either way it needs fixing. I personally think all players are over valued and over paid the most significant thing we could do to keep the costs down is develop Academy players into first team players. If we can get that right then we would be in a great place. IMO we need a partnership with a feeder club that we can send our youth players to get more experience playing against adults. It would speed their development and provide greater insight into whether they are good enough or not.

Do we go all out against Palace or should we hold back and save something for the Arsenal game just in case?

BR2021-22

1.) 16 May 2022 08:08:39
All out. Nothing but a win will do otherwise out fate will mostly be out of our hands.

2.) 16 May 2022 08:46:14
We go for the win . the AFC match is not yet in our cross hairs as it were so we cannot plan for it until the Palace match is concluded.
Defeats and draws are unthinkable .

VAR again….

BR2021-22

1.) 15 May 2022 19:00:08
It's a disgrace. It is as clear a shirt pull as you will ever see - we should go 2 up with 11 men still on the pitch and we would now be safe. Oliver and VAR should be asked to explain the reasoning that they did not consider that to be a foul. Oliver should also be asked how the foul for our actual penalty was not a second bookable offence.

2.) 16 May 2022 00:28:56
I agree toffee davey. We have had some awful decisions go against us this season. Reality though is that this team is atrocious and I'm afraid as the saying goes you cannot dress up a turd.
Done well to win a couple recently but think this was largely down to the 12th man. If we go down then drawing with watford away was probably the final nail. If we stay up and hopefully there is still a fair chance then I fear for next season because this lot are woeful. For the richarlison lovers on here pukki has more than him, I think that stat goes a long long long way to explain were his problem lies. Mykalenko looks a good signing however the recruitment has been so so poor over the last 5 years we are left with half a squad that we cannot punt on. Certain holgate scores recently and he's beaming post match, some of you want him to play midfield next season, so do I but for say someone like rochdale! He's just 1 of many absolutely shocking players.

I suppose there is the worry that the season starts a bit earlier so it would be nice to get some players in so they can hit the ground running.

Unless their wealth can open up new dreams of income, we’d be in the same old mess. Hopefully a new stadium will help generate more income but not many people are able to tap into shirt sales etc unless we start playing better and win stuff.

I think Newcastle might experience something similar Dan. The problem we’ve faced is Moshiri’s inability to walk away from a deal when he (or his ‘advisor’) wants a player. Clubs know they can up the price. I don’t blame them, we would do the same if we could.

Feels like another Schneiderlin to me.

I’m not sure our financial mess will allow for risky options like this. Look at Deli Ali. Are we just taking Spurs’ unwanted players? Wish someone would come and do that to some of our squad!

Wasn’t Rondon on a year contract and is a free agent again this summer?

Difference is con: most of us see Trucker’s post as a depressing outlook of the truth and you see it as an opportunity to get a buzz. Not denying your passion for the club but come on mate - let’s not kick the club when they are down.

The ‘Thursday we’re doomed’ feels about right at the moment - regardless of selling Richy.

Haven’t we a history of buying players in positions we already have cover in? And playing players out of position?

Wouldn’t be surprised if we bought Winks and stuck him at left back….

The other Eds change the locks on you again ‘eh Ed25?

I’m not sure the ride will be much different to last year Ed but if Frank can keep the team spirit we showed at the end of last season then we might edge some of those games we narrowly lost or drew. That would hopefully put us mid table and away from relegation.

BR2021-22

{Ed025's Note - that’s what I’m hoping for BR. But we do need some more new faces mate and ones who are grafters with at least a modicum of skill. We are a bit short on that front imo..

What’s been said about being suited from the role hits the nail on the head for me. If they are good enough and they are employed in the right roles then that’s all we can ask. If they aren’t successful, give them the right support. If that doesn’t work, they need to be replaced - just don’t stick them on stupid contracts in case it doesn’t work out. Same with the players. If they are successful, extend the contracts.

The thing with Dunc is he’s been the major consistency around the first team for the last few seasons. If he is doing a good job, it’s not translating onto the pitch. I’d like to see him go out and get more experience and see if he can cut it elsewhere. As for Rhino, it’s strange the success hasn’t followed with the U21s though there are a few youngsters around the first squad. The managers may be responsible for not giving them a chance more than Unsworth not doing his job.

From my experience of coaching and teaching, those who are exceptional at something aren’t always the best at passing it on to others.
