I don't rate Lampard at all - spent a lot of money and called in all his Chelsea contacts to take Derby from seventh to seventh. Did well for one season when he had difficult circumstances imposed on him at Chelsea, but, when given the scope to actually build something, didn't do it.

I think a Lampard appointment would stink of us not learning our lessons - There needs to be a settled and realistic plan put in place that allows for steady, gradual progress over the next ten years. A "name" with very little coaching or managerial experience does not lend itself to that.

I'm definitely not anti young coaches, if it's coaching ability that we're looking at, not how many thirty-yard screamers someone scored back in their playing days. I don't imagine it's a particularly popular opinion, but I don't think Simon Jordan was too far wrong when he suggested Cooper from Nottingham Forest.

Not sure what post you're referring to, Big C, but Romano hasn't posted anything like that on either Insta or Twitter in the last 48 hours. Either an old post rehashed or a wind-up.

Chris,

I completely agree, but we've undoubtedly dug ourselves into this hole with a number of years of very bad business, and now we have to get ourselves out.

Whether we will or not is a different question.

By now I guess everyone is familiar with our need to reduce our wage bill, so it might be a bigger problem if no one leaves than no one comes in.

That said, I thought last night showed how thin our squad is. We desperately need another striking option (particularly if we do shift Kean) , RB and CB are both problem areas, as is creativity from midfield without James and HeWhoShallNotBeNamed. I have no idea how true the PSG/ Richy rumours are, but they seem plausible enough, so we could be in a fairly dicey position this time next week.

I was no fan of Rafa's appointment, but this is clearly a situation a long time in the making and I suspect that this may be one of those seasons we all just just have to endure, stick together as best we can, and then look to rebuild next summer. Hopefully with a bit more planning and forethought this time.

Whilst I don't think Moshiri is, in anyway free from blame, I can't see us moving on until Kenwright steps away from the club.

Ever since Moshiri came in there has been confusion and tension regarding who controls what. Numerous agents have spoken about how convoluted negotiations are with the club, and how often things need to be repeated with different figures within the organization. Kenwright publicly backing Moshiri into a corner over Benitez is further evidence of that.

I know a lot of us, myself included, are not big fans of Rafa, but ditching him now, without addressing the deeper issues that led us to this point, won't help us.

We are in a very deep hole at the moment. Superficial changes of personnel are not going to make the slightest bit of difference. The problems are structural and need to be addressed accordingly.

I agree GB, but I also don't think that makes Rafa immune from criticism (I'm not suggesting you do, btw) .

Rafa has built a pretty successful career on being cautious, but persisting with Iwobi and Rondon does seem to be fool hardy, to say the least. Yes, we have a paper-thin squad riven by injuries and suspensions, but Dobbin was fantastic against Brighton for the U23s last week, and Simms offered more than Rondon does, so at what point. Surely if there was ever a time to introduce them is it was yesterday?

I don't think ditching Rafa is the right move (financially speaking, I'm not convinced it's even an option) , but we have to find a way through the next month or two that doesn't destroy us, because at the moment we look like easy pickings for just about everyone.

Woburn, with our full backs I'm not sure it's so much an issue of competition, more one of support and depth.

If there was a viable alternative at LB, even one at slightly lower level, I think the Digne (who has been carrying an injury) and the team as a whole would benefit from him being given some proper time to recuperate.

I've got to disagree about the strength of the squad, Sobs. In my opinion we've got no real cover in either fullback position, 1 excellent centre back who, to some extent, is still learning his trade and 3 that (charitably speaking) split opinion, a question mark at no. 10 (an unfavoured James? A repurposed Townsend? ) , and a back up striker who hasn't played top level football in a few years.

I also think it will be a miracle if Richy doesn't end up having some significant time out, somewhere in the season, given how much football he's played in the last 15 months.

Whilst I agree that we're playing well at the moment, it seems to me we're only a 2 or 3 injuries away from being in very difficult position, line up wise.

I suspect this might not be the most popular opinion, but I'm not at all convinced by Godfrey at RB. As good a player as he is, it seems to me that all of his weakest games for us have all come when he's been playing there.

Also, whilst Holgate and Kenny are obviously massive gambles, I think our best CB should be playing at CB.
