Might be interested in Croatia CB Domagoj Vida, who looks decent, except for his samurai surfer turnip top knot thing he's got swinging around his bonce. Any insight on this? Not the haircut, but the player, I mean.

Surely one of the best signings when we look back at this window will be Marcel Brands (my autocorrect changed it to Marvel Brands, which seems quite fitting! ) Regardless of any other incoming / outgoings he was tasked with reducing the wage bill and recruiting quality players and so far he's done a tremendous job in just 3-4 weeks. We may have made a loss on some players, but we can already say that this has been an impressive first TW for the new management team, especially if Bernard, and one of the touted defenders arrive (and I have faith that we will be pleasantly surprised) . I feel that some posters are still unsure of Silva as an appointment, and the Eds have highlighted his seeming lack of staying power or commitment to previous clubs, but I think he's got a harshly judged record, based on him leaving after relatively positive spells with each. He was at Estoril for 3 years, gaining promotion with them and consistently achieving against the odds, then at Sporting was only sacked by their insane owner who was essentially jealous of Silvas popularity. Then he went to Olympiakos and signed for 2 years, leaving after one for personal reasons (he's not the first manager to do this and hardly left them in the lurch as he left before t he season started after winning everything with them) . As Hull manager, he won his first 4 home games with a team already doomed to relegation, beating Manutd in the cup and them across the park. He left Hull to manage Watford where quite frankly he probably knew there would be problems given how many managers they had been through in just a few years, but wanted to stay in the PL. I think Silva has been looking for a club to stick with that matches his ambition, so I for one am glad he is with Everton where he will have arguably more support from any board he has worked with previously. I can't see any reason why he wouldn't stick with us for longer than the other clubs he's coached. Yes, he will be judged on performances, but it will take time. I think we have a lot to look forward to this season, so let's not be down about meaningless pre-season results, enjoy the rest of what is already an exciting window and get behind M&M for the start of a season full of possibilities. COYB!

OHEFB, coming on here with all that positivity, you'll be run out of town if you're not careful.
Good post though.

The biggest difference compared to Walsh is the quality of player we've bought or been linked with.

No cuco's, Vlasic type players but instead players already at a pedigree club (The exception is Ricky where Silva has genuine knowledge of but knows the league already) . It does make a difference especially in ambition and expectation.

Silva and Brands press conference was quite confidence inspiring and Silva 's suggestion that transfers would start to happen in the next few days, I would think that given his links to Sporting Lisbon (where he was a big hit with the fans and the players and only lost 2 games in the season, and won a cup, but then was sacked for not wearing the club suit - really because Bruno De Carvalho was jealous of his popularity) , we might be able to take advantage of the mass exodus that is about to occur there. In case you aren't already aware, Its all gone a bit wrong for SL This season, with the most recent assault by fans on the players while training being just the latest problem they've faced. Players are now considering tearing up their contracts and walking out, William Carvalho being one that is already seeking a move to the PL, so could quite reasonably be coming and possibly for a low fee. Wouldn't mind taking a punt on Bas Dost, for the same reasoning.

Well that's a welcome relief. We've hit the fabled 40 points, Tosun is an all terrain weatherproof beast and some luck finally went our way with decisions today. Vital to be in a secure position before the visit of Citeh. Hopefully we can use the rest of the season to build the mental strength and cohesion of the team, rather than down tools and start visualising sunbathing already.

Not the case of luck but at last picking a winning Team without change. Still want him gone (I like Alardyce and wanted him because we needed his particular talent but he has proved up to now he is not the long term solution) but I said at the beginning the bloke was not the neanderthal some would have us believe, he embraces modern methods one of which is the Sports Psychologist and that does seem to have worked this week.

{Ed025's Note - except on bolasie DFS..

2.) 17 Mar 2018 21:33:45
The club has had a sports psychologist for years and that hasn't made a difference to our away form. Allardyce was supposed to bring one in but didn't.
Managers train and breed a winning mentality into players or go out and sign players with winning mentalities.
Expecting a sports psychologist to do the work for you is not revolutionary or forward thinking.
Relying on psychologists and stats will save you from relegation, building a team and galvanizing team spirit will win you a league or trophy.

3.) 17 Mar 2018 22:10:35
Smit, correct.

4.) 17 Mar 2018 23:24:02
Ducks sports psychologist have been going for 100 years. This has nothing to do with tactics, buying and selling players, training techniques, man management, physical fitness or style of play.

If I had to run around for 90 minutes watching the ball fly over my head then I'd want to have a chat with one.

I don't think anyone said he was a Neanderthal just that his style of football was crap.

5.) 17 Mar 2018 18:18:07
Yeh Ed Bolasie was poor and so was Tom.

{Ed025's Note - they were GB but i thought keane had his best game for us which is a plus mate..

Ed025. Give you that one.

Quite happy with Mangala as he was a top defender at Porto, just had a poor run of injuries and form at Man City. At least he's left footed which is essentially lacking in our squad.

What els did you expect from SAM.

2.) 31 Jan 2018 21:52:30
I don't understand what the problem is, he's not ready, it's not just Sam who didn't play him, when he has played most of the time he's a 2 minute wonder then none exsistant, give him some football and hope he comes back with something to prove.

Nothing says confidence like a man throwing one of his gonads onto the table, Chinchin, although you can put those away, Bluetit. You make a solid argument, but nobody wants to see either of them, unless they look uncannily like Mina and Digne. But I agree. Pickford won't go this summer at least. Paper talk. According to some rags he was a waste of £30 million when we signed him last year. Just all part of the media rollercoaster.

Think he's a combative defensive midfielder with an eye for a forward pass. Possibly similar to Schneids but better, although hasn't set the world alight at Roma.

The Blackburn game started with Sigs getting some game minutes and the rest of the squad who would probably be considered second, third or even fourth choice players in each position. The second half saw more of what would be more likely Silvas first eleven, but by then the damage was done and they couldn't build up a rhythm quickly enough against a Blackburn side that were far more prepared for a season that starts in 10 days. I wouldn't worry too much as I think it was an opportunity to make final decisions on places in the team, necessary signings and player exits. Sadly, some players have made it easier for Silva to make decisions on. Score doesn't really matter, but Silva did not look happy. At least 2 quality defenders are essential purchases this window, whoever they may be. Also thought that tackle on Baines in the last two minutes was a disgrace for a pre season friendly. But the reaction from the players should provide some comfort, as it highlighted that they were of the mindset that it was just a friendly to find fitness and form. I think we'll see a much more focused squad in the next game.

Would love it if we got him. Won't come cheap though, as he's not long signed a new contract, plus i read that he's a die hard Celtic fan, and think he wants to help them set the record for titles won.

Fee believed by some reports to be in the region of £17.5 Mil which is a great bit of business by Brands if true!

Silva and Brands have already said that they will be looking for players with the right character to work for the team. Richarlison and Digne seem to be ideal in regards to this so far (Digne apparently is known for taking to the streets with water and first aid for victims of the Barcelona attacks - what a legend) , so I'm sure Bernard would have been vetted beforehand so they know the kind of personality and player they were bringing in. Plus Richarlison reckons he's a good bloke. And he's also good friends with Mina. Maybe we're bringing all his mates in!

Was going to say any of the names above, but they're taken so I'll take a punt on an outside chance of McCarthy, as I happen to like the green fruit pastels.
