One thing I noticed from Fulham game was that their RB Tettey looked decent. Maybe it was just one game and all their players looked good against our pathetic display. Anyone else seen anymore of Tettey? As a RB will be a must in summer.

Singing the Blues

{Ed002's Note - Brands is working on a couple of RB options as has been explained.}

1.) 18 Feb 2021 12:00:44
Hi Ed the right back options is that when your discussed Djed Spence being an option?

{Ed002's Note - Yes, things will almost certainly change but the options I know of are:
Max Aarons (RB) seen as a long term solution to the RB position but it won't happen. There is interest from elsewhere and he would cost more than Everton will be looking to spend on a RB.
Djed Spence (RB) Brands has been asked to look into Spence as an option for RB after he impressed when scouts were looking at Tavernier.
Kieran Trippier (RB) A player that CA has expressed admiration for in the past and could be available.}

2.) 18 Feb 2021 13:13:22
Thanks Ed, he does look a good attacking fullback just not grabbed the exposure in the premier league like Aarons, seems to have got attention from a few other clubs at times. Guessing he would be a better fit financially compared to Aarons
What’s the story with Trippier then?

{Ed002's Note - He is a player CA has been keen on in the past and after all of the grief he will be available.}

Ed02 How much do clubs consider the importance of loaning out players to the correct club? Are they just happy to get players getting games or part of salary etc?
Or do they really look at if that team suits their player, style of play, standard of play. Character of player or players from that squad.
This is a big step for some players and could make or break their careers.

Singing the Blues

{Ed002's Note - Clubs firstly want a the player to get game time and "relevant" experience. In terms of the club he would be going to, many have relationships with the clubs loaning players out already. Some clubs are far better in dealing with loans than others who don't really have a plan.}

1.) 18 Aug 2020 17:45:15
Thanks Ed02.

2.) 18 Aug 2020 18:41:07
On that note ed, that being the case and the number of players who teeter between u23s and Main squad, e. g. benni baningame, why have Everton not loaned out the likes of baningame. to see if he can make that transition given regular game time. 2yrs ago kevin sheedy told me that of all the youngsters then baningame was most talented. more than dowell, more than davis yet his career has just stalled.

{Ed002's Note - Many clubs, including Everton has no viable structure that allows loans to be planned, to happen and to be managed. Maybe Brands will have the opportunity to work this going forward - I hope so.}

3.) 18 Aug 2020 20:00:29
There is a limit on loans though isn’t there?

{Ed002's Note - In but not out.}

06 Mar 2020 11:28:22
We have been linked with Koulibaly and Lozano and the other position we need to strengthen is central midfield. I would imagine Lozano wouldn’t be to expensive but Koulibaly would surely be out of our price range with the state of our finances. We need to offload a number of players and that would maybe give us the money to get Lozano and maybe a midfielder. If we managed to pull off Koulibaly the guy is a solid Ed’s think it’s possible?

Singing the Blues

{Ed002's Note - Koulibaly is going to be available but €100M for a player approaching 30 is going to make it a tough sell. I would guess the link is simply because of Carlo Ancelotti. More realistically you might want to take a look at Gabriel Magalhaes (CB) - Everton have scouted the player since the new year. Hirving Lozano (RW/F) is available, but goals have dried up. There are far better options available but CA may be tempted if he thinks he can get more out of him.}

1.) 06 Mar 2020 14:14:17
think the lozano link is always going to be there, even before we had carlo due to the fact brands thinks of him so highly and signed him for psg.

2.) 06 Mar 2020 17:06:52
Ed02 thanks for the info. 👍🏼.

{Ed002's Note - You are welcome.}

3.) 06 Mar 2020 23:52:55
Could Lozano be the new Riquelme?

4.) 08 Mar 2020 16:18:33
Carlo is stuck with players that were average when we got them and on long very well paid contracts and the Club potentially falling foul of FFP. What a catch 22.

27 Jan 2019 10:03:47
I am as frustrated as any supporter after last nights performance and result. The confidence has been sucked out of the team since the derby defeat. I would like to think we would of got over it by now, surely as professionals this can’t be the case.
A lot of posts criticising zonal marking and people just saying the negatives about that way of defending.

Yes, you have players standing defending a zone but you also have other players who are meant to be blockers preventing the opposition from getting space to have a run. We can all have our opinions on this and top coaches have their own beliefs. The fact is whichever way you play it’s the players who need to take responsibility and Silva has said this.

They can train all week on it and players go out on match day and don’t do it who should the finger be pointed at? If we defending man to man and a corner comes in and our player gets blocked out in a crowd or ball watching etc we don’t have anyone questioning it saying that doesn’t work.

Pre derby game and during that game we didn’t have this problem. (maybe at first until the players understood it and Mina with his height was a help) again Silva says about maturity, I think Digne is a quality player but he gave away a cheap free kick when the player wasn’t going anywhere.

Also a few people saying get Rafa in to replace Silva? Rafa defends zonally too. I am not knocking him as he is a top manager and surprised he has stuck with Newcastle.
I am a Moyes fan and I am sure if he came in we would be more solid defensively but could he take us into the top four? Could he go to Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea and Utd and play in a attacking way as we did this season?

I think we have been unlucky in all those games to come away with only Chelsea point. In those games is when we missed a top striker. I say let’s get behind the manager and players because their confidence is very low and we need to pull together to get out of this. Hopefully this is a kick up the arse the players need to stop feeling sorry for themselves.

Singing the Blues

1.) 27 Jan 2019 10:43:50
Yes, the main problem is defence. Attack could be better and when we were playing well it seemed the difference between us and top 6 was a quality striker, otherwise we were going toe to toe with them. But since the Derby we've been unable to defend (set pieces especially. )

All systems have pros and cons and other managers use zonal marking. Yesterday the players just didn't do it properly, mainly not attacking the first ball and not following runners (most zonal systems have someone doing this) so not winning second balls either. Assuming he's telling them this you have to look at the players.

2.) 27 Jan 2019 11:19:45
We haven't got to grips with zonal marking all season not just last night it's clear that the players we have just aren't comfortable in a zonal defence system. I think we should start to ring some changes for the next game at Huddersfield first would be a change of formation to either a 433 or 4411 me personally would go 4411 with jags if fit coming in to partner zouma the full backs remain the same but I would change centre mid I would put McCarthy in midfield as this would give us a bit more tenacity in midfield and partner him with gomes with richarlison on left Walcott in the right and Bernard in number 10 role with tosun upfront.

{Ed025's Note - i want you as our next manager david..

3.) 27 Jan 2019 12:29:54
Problem is season after season we are asked to get behind the team and with the poor signings we seem to make, year on year, sooner or later you become negative posters!

4.) 27 Jan 2019 12:43:13
I don’t think the signings brands/ silva have made are bad. They have a job on their hands still as at least 9 players are surplus at the end of the season.
It will take time to clear them out and bring in players they both want.

5.) 27 Jan 2019 14:35:51
Singing the Blues - can you please stop with the sensible, rational posts! Absolutely pointless sacking Silva. As has been said up to the Derby we looked ok. We were the better team at Anfield. We should easily have had more at Chelsea and Arsenal.
Since the Derby the total lack of guts and leadership amongst the players has shone through.

Millwall were pulling shirts off us in the box. We can’t even block their runs. That is NOT the manager, that is the players. Oviedo apart when did we last go to a top 6 club and win? That Silva fault? NO. There is a whole culture of accepting mediocrity within the club. A whole culture of giving in when it gets tough. That cannot be changed in 6 months.

Brands and Silva have half a squad who they clearly do not rate ( and neither in the main do we) but they are stuck with them until either someone takes them or contracts end. We cannot keep changing managers.

Get rid of the deadwood in the squad - if I’m honest there is about 6 I’d keep. Get rid of the entire coaching staff from the old boys network. They all have this ‘losers’ culture. Bring in some winners both on and off the pitch.

But for Tuesday?

6.) 27 Jan 2019 16:13:18
DaveW not sure if that was criticism or praise? Lol I’ve never been called sensible or rational in my life 🤣
Frustration brings mixed emotions, look at Gomes a few weeks ago he was fond of the season controlling midfield and everyone wanted us to sign him straight away for £xxm. Now he’s a Barcelona reserve who’s too slow and can’t header a ball.
Come on guys let’s be rational and sensible about this.

7.) 27 Jan 2019 16:17:27
Ed025 and I would love the mangers pay check I think we need to give brands and Silva time and few transfer windows to sort out the mess of previous regimes. But please Marco ditch the zonal marking until we have the players able to implement this system properly.

{Ed025's Note - i would love that david, but just like maggie the witch...i dont think hes for turning mate..

8.) 27 Jan 2019 18:06:42
I called this weeks ago when people were saying Jags is finished, get Jags in that defence and the fire of McCarthy in midfield and watch results improve.

Two other things I would sort out is scrap the zonal marking, we tried it but just not working.

The other thing I would do is bring Neville Southall in short term, and get him to coach Pickford and how to command his area and make the crosses his, he is still young and can think of no better person to tweak his weaknesses.

9.) 27 Jan 2019 17:57:29
we don't have a defender that can turn they are all rubbish.

10.) 27 Jan 2019 23:40:08
Could you imagine if Southall could give Pickford half his command of a box.

02 Jan 2019 14:21:56
Ed’s what are our chances of buying Callum Wilson?

Singing the Blues

{Ed002's Note - Around zip I would think.}

1.) 02 Jan 2019 15:42:13
Thanks. (Sort of 😏)

2.) 04 Jan 2019 13:43:03
Same reason as we would not like to sell or loan a player to any Club around us, applies in reverse I would have thought, so agree with Ed on Calum Wilson. Mind you we appear to be a Club that will pay a premium, so you never know.

{Ed002's Note - That is not the reason.}

Any sore heads this morning blues? A few drinks last night to celebrate our win and performance.
What a difference a game makes? Can Allan get in our midfield now lol.
Could wingbacks be our way forward?
Play same back 5 (or 3 with wing backs)
Richarlison and DCL up front with James, Gomes or Gylfi as no10 and play 2 out of Allan, Davies, Doucoure and Gbamin once fit. It would fit our players better. Iwobi and Nkounkou as replacements WB. Sounds good to me.
Proud blue today. 😁.
I think this is so much more than 3pts and bragging rights. It gives the players and supporters belief that we can go to old Trafford and anfield and get results. Carlo is changing our team and the next phase will be to dominate weaker teams when they come to Goodson and get our match winners doing their thing. I think the crowd will help with this too and put those teams under more pressure. COYB.

Singing the Blues

1.) 21 Feb 2021 12:12:16
I thought the back 3 were fantastic last night. Seamus worked socks off but his time is nigh unfortunately. Big praise for Davies. A player everyone wanted to succeed, then turned into scapegoat when things went bad. Well past 4 games he's been virtually Motm. Hope it continues. Pickford too was back to his best yesterday I thought. Still want to see what Gbamin brings to the table once fit. As a lad who can play Cb or DM, it'll be good to see if he can cement his place in team.

19 Feb 2021 11:12:18
Davies has improved over the last few weeks and can see him doing a job with Allan and Doucoure together when we need to be solid and play with three central midfielders.
We can’t play with Gylfi, Gomes and James they just to slow. We need another RW to challenge with Iwobi then pick one of the three slow playmakers we have to play as a 10.
I just don’t think it works James on the right, it worked early in the season but I think teams have worked us out exposing our RB and easier to mark James out the game. Square pegs in round holes. He’s proven his quality at times so give him freedom and let him be creative. Richarlison and Iwobi will work hard as wingers and defend too. We need to have protection in midfield from proper midfielders Davies, Allan and Doucoure. Not asking Gomes or Gylfi to defend as proved v City switching off and not tracking the runner. Maybe Gbamin might be a useful return.

Singing the Blues

19 Feb 2021 11:04:21
With injury to Mina will this force us in to playing Godfrey with Keane and playing Digne and Coleman at fullback.
Have iwobi and Richarlison as wingers. Allan returns with Doucoure in centre (who I thought was very good v city) . James as a10 with DCL upfront. That would probably be our strongest 11.

I have a bad feeling we will play Holgate at CB and have Godfrey and Digne to double up on Salah. This being packing midfield with Gylfi! I hope not as I think our strongest 11 can get a result.

Singing the Blues

19 Feb 2021 10:50:25
Who starts in goal tomorrow? Will Carlo play Olsen to stop the attention on Pickford regarding VVD incident. Or would it be best play Pickford to deal with it and possibly better option with him being better distribution and more comfortable with his feet with Liverpool high press?

Singing the Blues

1.) 19 Feb 2021 11:30:11
Hoping it's Olsen however I have to concede Olsen is not the long term .
Pickford has loaded himself with too much baggage for 'derby games' imo and I am not sure he could handle it mentally, same with NUFC matches too 'heady'and intoxicating for him.

2.) 19 Feb 2021 12:22:18
I think without a crowd Pickford would be fine. I actually thought up until the 3rd goal he had a very good game against City. He was much more decisive than usual, punched well when he had to, came out at the right times and made some smart saves. 3rd goal he just didn't get strong enough contact on the save, not actually something that is usually an issue for him so I'm happy for him to have another shot in the Derby. Really don't think Olsen is the answer at all.

3.) 19 Feb 2021 14:46:29
As long as after the game we’re not talking about an efc goalkeeper error I don’t care which one is in goal.

4.) 19 Feb 2021 15:00:18
Well if it comes to that I hope we are talking about Jurgen having a post match altercation with the officials and blowing a gasket in front of the TV cameras .
Entertainment of the highest calibre and my motm to boot 🤭.

5.) 19 Feb 2021 17:59:44
I hope he plays Pickford and he has a blinder, with a couple of controversial incidents to rattle the neighbours.

03 Jan 2021 14:03:03
What would be everyone’s first choice CB pairing at the moment? We have looked strong recently and all players have done well.
Personally I always think it’s a position that a pairing build a partnership up and have an understanding with each other, also compliment each other ie one with pace and the other good in the air. I would go Holgate and Keane at the moment and Mina very unfortunate. Godfrey will also be in contention once Digne back. Branthwaite probably best go on loan for experience. Nice problem for Carlo to have.

Singing the Blues

1.) 03 Jan 2021 14:16:41
I'd go with Keane and Holgate right now, mate. If MH can find the form of last season then he will be solid again, he also had a decent partnership with Keane. MK 8s one of those players that thrives on confidence, when he's at the top of his game he is a good CB. Mina is a liability at times for me but he always puts a shift in. Godfrey will slot into that CB position nicely when every full back is fit. As you say, a good problem for Carlo to have.

2.) 03 Jan 2021 14:45:30
A CBs job is to stop teams scoring, either by winning the ball, through tackling (it’s obvious that Godfrey is best at that, he’s big strong and quick and puts it about) , in the air or reading the game and intercepting passes, I think Keane is best of the bunch at those two skills. Whilst Holgate is a good player and great with the ball at his feet I think the other two are better defenders. Mina is a big lad and can be good but is a serious liability at times. Therefore I’d go with Keane and Godfrey; however the prospect of Godfrey and Branthwaite as a left/ right footed combo in two/ three years time looks very exciting indeed. Think as a defensive pair those two will have everything.

3.) 03 Jan 2021 19:29:07
Why change a back four needing a rest is ridiculous at this level. Our best CB pairing is therefore Keane and Mina with Holgate RB and Godfrey LB. Need a DM in the Alan mode with pace and a RWB. A big wish in January but my view is get those and we will finish top 6.

4.) 03 Jan 2021 21:57:57
Once Digne is back I would put Godfrey along side Keane. You need pace at the back, something Godfrey has and Mina hasn’t. I remember the days we had Ratcliffe at the back. He wasn’t the best defender around but he was quick and so recovered well. Great captain during our golden years.
New right back Keane, Godfrey and Digne. With Branthwaite to step in for Keane in a couple of years.

5.) 04 Jan 2021 15:21:22
Keane and Mina ( Mina has been one of the pluses for me this season, he has surprised me! )
If Mina got injured then I would go for Keane and Godfrey
And if Godfrey got injured I would go for
Keane and Braithwaite
If Braithwaite got injured than I would go for
Keane and Holgate.

MK is a confidence player and think if he can get a goal and be more involved in the first team he could come good. Carlo will put his arm around him but it all depends IF he wants to stay or go back to Italy.
I know all players need confidence but different characters need different management.

{Ed025's Note - i see nothing in his game that makes me think he will make it here STB, moody personality pathetic first touch and could,nt hit a bulls arse with a banjo, i would row him back to italy in a gondola mate..

All seems a bit strange to me. Usmanov has a few links to EFC now with sponsorships and naming rights. He’s a businessman and he’s not going to give money to EFC or his friend as owner unless he is getting something in return other than getting his brand advertised.

At the same time there is no point in him joining Moshiri in ownership of the club as this wouldn’t make a difference to FFP as are overheads are more than our income.
I understand the club is trying to offload surplus players and reduce the wages. But really if we could wave a magic wand and move on Stekelenburg, one of our RB (Kenny, Coleman or Sidibe) , Martina and Niasse.

Maybe others ie Schneiderlin, Sigurdson and Walcott too. Would this get us back within the threshold of FFP? Not forgetting even if all these could move on. Our club has ambition to bring in new quality players who will cost a premium which will then put us back to square 1. So what is the answer apart from selling our best players like we have done in the past. Doesn’t seem fair financially to us supporters.

Eds25 in fairness marcel brands has had a lot of deadwood to clear and we have been unfortunate with injuries with new signings. It will take time to get the squad sorted.

Singing the Blues

{Ed025's Note - i get that STB but as a renowned director of football you would have thought that he would have brought in a top class striker, a bloody millwall fan could have told him that, and what about our centre backs?...surely he knows they are the pitts so why are they stilll here and why have we not invested in better?, on his report card i would be saying "could do a hell of a lot better 4/10"..

I think Klopp has shown his true colours over the last few weeks. Nice guy who people like when winning and things going their way. Now things are getting tricky he’s showing his other side which is not so popular. Looking for excuses injuries, var, cold weather and fixtures etc. Would love to have seen what big Dunc would have done to him if there rant continued. Lol.

Good to see some sensible and realistic posts. Some of the comments I have read have been embarrassing.
We all agree our last performance was lacklustre but every team has had moments and no team is running away with it and taking points of each other.
There has been reasons for this and Carlo will address them with the return of players, players fitness returning and confidence.
Our passing was sloppy and we had no cutting edge in the final third but credit to West Ham they defended the space and broke play up often to stop any momentum or possession for any length of time.
We missed Iwobi who is a player who will run at a defender, we have missed Digne especially with his width and DCL must be counting the days for his return.
A couple of times Coleman attempted to overlap Bernard lost possession which was poor.
I praised Davies the previous week but he was exposed during this game and it was a game we needed the control of Allan. Maybe Gbamin can help with this too.
Pickford didn’t do anything wrong our defence is looking solid and has depth at CB just need fullbacks sorted.
DCL is isolated without service.
Richarlison is lacking confidence at the moment and hopefully gets back to performance levels we know.
James will show his class again but understand he does expose us defensively so when we find Coleman’s replacement first and foremost he will need to be a solid RB defensively and if he can attack too will be a bonus.
Sell Tosun and bring in Costa and Ali in January. Sort fullbacks out in summer.

Nice to see the positive posts. Davies can do a job against lower teams when we have possession as a deep lying playmaker. I think he gets exposed against better teams when asked to defend ie Allan or Geuye. It’s not a criticism just an observation and to use him at the proper times. He switches off defensively. Saying that Geuye and Allan maybe don’t carry the ball forward or show for ball as much as Tom.
It’s been pleasing to see the squad players stepping up and looking forward to when Digne, James, Richarlison and Allan return not forgetting Gbamin and any new arrivals.
Interested to see the team tomorrow, maybe a weaker team and concede the game and have the team ready and fresh for next game. Momentum will be disrupted but fresher legs?

This may just force Carlo’s hand to play wingbacks. Give Iwobi another go at RWB. Unfortunately for Seamus if he’s fit but this maybe the system going forward. It would save the need of looking for a right winger. Put James as a no10 too.

How ironic when you think we used to be overloaded with no 10’s.
We have seen a number of players used in the starting XI this season.
Curious did Gylfi start in our opening games before suspension and injuries?
I know Gomes is not lightning fast either but I remember against Spurs we pressed high and Gomes was highest player pressing at one point. If we are pressing as a team and DCL, Richarlison and James are first to press the opposition CB and fullbacks then our no 10 or advanced CAM needs to be quicker and on the same wave length.
It will be interesting to see what Carlo does next transfer market. Does he sign RW push James inside as 10, sign a no 10 and keep James on right or play wing backs and sign RWB and push James as RWB.
I don’t like to single Sigurdsson out and understand it’s not his fault at the defending on Saturday but we stop the attacks higher up the field then the opposition don’t have time on the ball to pick out players in more advanced positions.
