Ashley Cole to join the coaching staff is gathering pace
Was just listening to Jamie O’Hara on sky sports who said he did coaching badges with Ashley and his defensive knowledge and drills were amazing and well structured
Could be just the coach we need!

1.) 01 Feb 2022 10:35:39
With him and Baines we should at least be able to make decent left back out of Mykolenko!

2.) 01 Feb 2022 10:54:09
Best thing you can say about Cole is that only for him Baines would have got 100+ caps.

3.) 01 Feb 2022 19:12:41
Even though Baines was better than Cole overall

But yes. The 2 best left backs the premier league has seen, on our coaching staff? If Mykolenko doesn’t become our own Roberto Carlos I will be very disappointed

No pressure.

4.) 01 Feb 2022 20:40:41
Best left back this country ever produced. Legend. Actually one of the top left backs ever to play the game and a great addition if he accepts. Things are definitely looking revitalised and full of hope.

5.) 01 Feb 2022 23:58:12
Baines better than Cole overall hahaha!

I understand your loyalty to a club cult hero, but Cole is arguably the best left back of his generation. Absolutely world class on the pitch.

6.) 02 Feb 2022 03:06:02
Cole was amazing defensively and decent going forward.

Baines was amazing going forward and very good defensively.

Baines had so much more to offer, if he had left to join Utd or Bayern, it wouldn’t be a debate. It’s nothing to do with Everton, he was that good.

7.) 02 Feb 2022 06:33:12
Cole was the better player out the 2. Not by much, mind.

The main thing that gives him the edge is he was faster than baines and was probably just the better defender.

Baines was the better at set pieces, which we utilised effectively.

They were 2 excellent left backs, probably in top 5/ 10 in the world during their careers and we were lucky to have baines.

Let's hope Cole comes and can pass on his experience to mickey, who is an international left back.

8.) 02 Feb 2022 14:58:36
Apparently he is going to keep his job for the England u23’s as well. Let’s hope he’s still kept some of his fitness haha.

9.) 02 Feb 2022 17:00:52
Best left back? Better than Rachel Unitt? Never :P.

10.) 04 Feb 2022 18:20:24
With Cole in, let’s hope he warms our defence up.

Sky are reporting Moise Kean’s move to Juventus is expected to be finalised later this evening.

The move will see Kean return to Italy on an initial loan with an agreement to make it permanent in a deal worth up to €35m

Sounds a bit better, must be loaded with bonuses and incentives.

Southern Toffee

1.) 30 Aug 2021 21:19:19
Loan fees, 2 years worth and the rest in a sale.
Fudging round FFP the best way for Juventus.

27 Aug 2021 19:40:26
According to Sky we have sounded out a deal for Odsonne Edouard who is out of contract next summer
Could be interesting.

Reports that we are looking to move in Fabian Delph, Cenk Tosun, Moise Kean, Jonjo Kenny, Mason Holgate and Jarad Branthwaite
Not fussed if any of those leave apart from Branthwaite think he has a future.

Southern Toffee

1.) 26 Aug 2021 13:55:45
Braithwaite is good young prospect definitely keep him but get rid of the rest problem is though no one wants are players. I cannot see any more signings for us this window which is a disappointment especially as we have needed a right back for 2 years know.

2.) 26 Aug 2021 20:11:26
Why Branthwaite? Lad hasn't been here long enough to make a decision to sell. Looking at him and Godfrey as being our future centre back pairing.

23 Aug 2021 23:07:39
Hi Ed, is there any truth in rumours we are looking at Daniel Jebbison.

Southern Toffee

{Ed025's Note - apparently we have had a bid for him rejected ST, but to be honest i dont know much about the guy mate..

1.) 24 Aug 2021 07:54:11
Scored against us on his Blades debut, Ed.

{Ed025's Note - oh right hugo, im getting old mate, i cant remember if i have put sugar in my tea these days mate..cheers..

2.) 24 Aug 2021 09:17:31
He scored against us, but he is young and raw, maybe they are hoping for DCL 2.0 but then I am not sure what he offers over the likes of Dobbin or Simms
Saying that, he does look like a good prospect and I am sure Rafa and Dunc could improve his game and develop him.
I read he was looking to be loaned somewhere but we’re looking at a transfer
One thing you would think is he would have more hunger desire and a better attitude than Kean who doesn’t want to be here.

3.) 24 Aug 2021 13:14:04
To be fair to you Ed, it was a very forgettable second half of the season for us!

{Ed025's Note - your right there hugo mate..

Now Newcastle looking to sign Gordon ??‍♂️

Hope this one is knocked back.

Southern Toffee

1.) 06 Jul 2022 13:39:40
Never going to happen southern toffee bud.

2.) 06 Jul 2022 13:44:17
I'm split
Sure he's been a brilliant tonic to the dour football of the last 12 months but he's far from being a top top player. He has a brilliant fighting spirit, probably his best asset. He has a long way to go but considering our position, a 30 million fee would be impossible to refuse. Would be able to buy 2 or 3 players with the same abilities and improve the FFP as well as the squad. I actually thought the entire point of a DOF/ Head coach and our apparent model was to set up a conveyer belt of hot young talent to be sold on for massive profits? So that we become the opposite of what we are now. I'll be happy either way. Great young player but ultimately he's still ineffective and doesn't score or setup enough goals.

3.) 06 Jul 2022 14:37:17
£35 million turned down apparently.

4.) 06 Jul 2022 14:49:30
I woudnt sell him 50 mil for ricky kean 25 mil of juventus still on incoming delph sig tosun of wage bill to were starting to get the wages down i wouldn't entertain any offers for gordon think he's got potential and its also good see the kids getting a run through 1st team for a platform to step on so i woudnt sell him in my opinion.

5.) 06 Jul 2022 15:13:47
There’s a good player in there we need to keep him and build a new Team around him.

6.) 06 Jul 2022 16:04:15
We should keep the better academy players till they are 23-24, either playing 1st team or loan out for 1st team football then we can get better premiums for them having the experience to play at higher levels, much like that of Dutch teams.

As until we can keep up with the Sky 6 Tax (FFP) . We certainly aren't going to be playing on the same field as them, so make what we can when we can, and just hope we can stay up till then.

7.) 06 Jul 2022 16:21:25
If we sell Gordon then it clearly shows the state we're in.

Can't be allowed to sell our future.

8.) 06 Jul 2022 17:22:43
Why do you think we are not in the position to turn down a £30m fee for Gordon. We have just started a new financial year so at this present time we may be in a situation that allows us to turn down offers for our best players. The whole point of selling Richy was to help with last years finances. As long as we are sensible and stay with PL P&L guidelines we probably won't need to sell unless we want to.

{Ed002's Note - I don’t think you understand the finances.}

9.) 06 Jul 2022 17:37:21
Personally I don't see what all the fuss is regarding Gordon . I will await all the abuse I'm bound to get.

10.) 06 Jul 2022 17:47:56
If we let gordon go we maswel pack it in. He is one of us he is fast an direct understands the club an fans plus he is a working progress. He has the lot if we let him go the club needs condemning.

11.) 06 Jul 2022 16:49:13
There's a rumour that he's interested in making the switch. Don't know if it's true but do the eds know.

{Ed025's Note - I can’t see him leaving pauly. He’s the future and wry well thought of mate..

12.) 06 Jul 2022 18:29:12
Just rumours, if we believe everything we hear we'd be spending 80 million we haven't got on 3 players heavily rumour linked. , in the future he might go if we don't get our ? together but I think we have him for at least 2 more seasons.

13.) 06 Jul 2022 18:29:53
As Ed said the other day, we won't know where we are (FFP) until this years figures are released. Ricky and others leaving may have reduced the pressure but let's see what the rule adjudicators say. Fingers crossed.

14.) 06 Jul 2022 19:19:11
We’ve still got a long way to go before FFP is behind us.
I hope we don’t lose Gordon, although currently there’s no end result from him.
Grey is a better option if he shows some commitment throughout the season.
He started well and fell away as we had no support for him.
£30m for Gordon I would take to fill the coffers a little more.
It will be interesting to see the accounts for this year, must be better but still along ways from being out of the woods.

15.) 06 Jul 2022 19:39:20
He’s being offered a new deal.

16.) 06 Jul 2022 23:02:44
The figures for this year won't be published until early next year as they usually are.
Last year 3 - £111,000 drops off with minimal C.V. losses (2019)
2020 and 2021 + 2022.
-139,000 + -114,000 = -255,000ish.
+ whatever this financial year is. - the allocated 2 year C.V. losses

We bought Gray for 1.7m. Sold Luca digne for 25 Mill and signed myko and Pattison although their fees and wages will be amortised over the contract period.
Around 10 million a year including wages maybe. - the Ricky funds if they've allocated them into the 2022 year end.

Reports of Stake.com to appear on shirts

This baffles me as I thought we dropped Sportpesa over the morality of gambling and looking to not promote it
Now a complete 180 and looking at another gambling based sponsor.

Southern Toffee

1.) 11 Jun 2022 07:27:25
Don’t think we can be picky at this moment in time because of finances. We have leagues called sky bet. Sky bet sponsors the matches we watch on tele betting companies on the adverts at the end of the day it’s just business.

2.) 11 Jun 2022 08:07:26
Too much is being made of this with the media in full attack mode and you would think we are the only club with a gambling sponsor, the telegraph ran a negative story yesterday and in the middle was a sly bet advert the hypocrisy is astounding, me I'm not arsed who's on the front as long as they pay us the most.

3.) 11 Jun 2022 10:51:50
Well I've never been to the NEC or bought a car from Cazoo so having a gambling company on shirts isn't going to make me want to bet either. And if you don't believe me then I'll bet anyone I'm telling the truth ?.

4.) 11 Jun 2022 16:02:16
ST that’s a good point. It’ll be interesting to see the clubs take on this if true.

5.) 11 Jun 2022 17:43:07
I don't know why people are moaning about this deal so much. As already posted by several people on here, if it's good enough to have the sky bet leagues then there is no problem with a club having a betting firm as a shirt sponsor.
We are being told that it is the most lucrative of our history so that will help alleviate our debts and help towards ffp. It makes no sense to complain about it. People will gamble regardless of what's on a football shirt.

6.) 11 Jun 2022 20:40:01
But it's ok the have the world cup where it is.

7.) 11 Jun 2022 22:50:32
Feels a lot like the advertising by cigarette companies in the past. It’s a fine line between what is appropriate and what is not. Gambling can destroy lives the same way booze has though doesn’t have the physical effects of smoking. Do we want to be promoting this to younger supporters?

If the club are going ahead with gambling sponsors because we are in a pit due to bad financial management, I’d like to see a lot more ‘bet responsibly’ and gamble awareness slogans to combat it around the ground, Everton media, website etc.

8.) 12 Jun 2022 13:23:23
BR, Everton FC ruin lives yet there are no awareness programs around the ground or surrounding area.
As with all clubs, there will be a few kids that are impressionable that support us but does that mean a shirt sponsor is going to make them gamble? Some will, some won't. What is the difference between a shirt sponsor and the league sponsor? Wouldn't the latter reach a bigger audience than one club?
If the ruling bodies think gambling sponsorship is bad then they need to stop it altogether, starting from the top. Leagues, cups etc should lead by example and not have any gambling related sponsorships, not just club shirts.

Ashley Cole has now joined as a first team coach
Looks to be a good acquisition to me hopefully we see improvements.

Southern Toffee

1.) 03 Feb 2022 16:58:50
This feels like such a positive move. The young academy players will remember lampard and Cole, would have grown up watching them and will no doubt bust a gut to impress.

Playing to impress a boyhood idle should bring some passion back to our club.

Let’s be honest, no one had Martinez, silva and their coaching staff as idles when growing up.

2.) 03 Feb 2022 18:13:42
Cole had one of the best engines in the game. And by all accounts Mykalenco has an engine too. That’s something you can’t teach but if he could teach him the rest then we’ll have someone to help us forget about the Digne fiasco as quick as.

3.) 03 Feb 2022 18:33:58
Idles eh!

It’s because they are the better talent and performers
Whereas lately we have a habit of going for other teams players who aren’t performing, which isn’t necessarily bad but shouldn’t pay too dollar for them, loan to buy options like the Pienaar and Arteta deals in the past.

You don’t rate Godfrey then Ed025?

Southern Toffee

{Ed025's Note - when he first came ST I thought we had a star on our hands. But he has regressed terribly and become very negative. Every time he gets the ball he turns backwards and looks for Pickford and it does my bloody head in. I do believe there is a player in there somewhere mate but unless he grows a pair and sorts his game out I don’t want him anywhere near the first team ..

On the fence myself, new owners won’t be a sudden quick solution we will still be constrained by FFP
But if it means we sign players for footballing reasons and not due to third party advisors then that’s a step in the right direction
New Stadium was a step in the right direction and will generate more revenue but then there is the fear that money will be paying off the stadium not helping with funds to improve the playing staff
New sponsorship will be good to generate more funds, as we have lost the Usmanov sponsorships from how I read things

We will see how things pan out and if it gets over the line.

Two of my mates who are big spies fans don’t rate him at all, say his defensive side is awful but he can pass a ball
I think we are far from being in the position to be picky right now, we need some players who want to graft and maybe Frank will see that in Winks, if he doesn’t I hope we swerve him.

What I don’t agree with is the continual bashing before a ball has been kicked for the new season
Different approaches different opinions
