With the transfer window open tomorrow and the planned activity program of Brands and Silva apparently been long in the creation, is the main priority clearing out as surely that must take place before purchases are made.
Looking at the squad that has become swollen due to panic buys and poor decisions by former managers, I reckon there are about 26 players that may be surplus to requirement.
With his knowledge of the contracts and transfer system ED002 has often said it is more difficult to move players on than we, as fans, would like.
If we split this group into "batches", retirements and end of contract takes in Baines, Jagielka, Williams, Pennington and Hewelt.
The next "bunch" are those with only 12 months left on their contracts - McCarthy, Galloway, Mirallas, Niasse, Steklenburg and Garbutt - these would have minimal sell on value.
Next is the ones probably difficult to shift with 2 years left - Schneiderlin, Sandro Ramirez, Bolasie, Lookman, Besic, Walcott, Conolly, Robinson and Dowell.
Out of the others that appear to be "out of favour", they have deals till June 2022 - Vlasic, Kenny, Oneykuru, Gueye, Tosun and Baniginime.
I say Gueye because he was obviously desatabilised in January and teams will come in for him.
Main point is, if 26 out and he wants a more competitive first team squad, how difficult is it going to be to shift some or all of these before we even get to the point of Moshiri sanctioning big outlays for targets.
Sorry for being long winded but I've long believed this is where we have the biggest problem.

The best approach for us supporters is to just sit back and enjoy the ride.
I have faith in our manager and DOF and don't believe anything written in the press so like the season just gone, I will assess it when the window closes.
Besides, we have a few older players on big wages who aren't upto the job so I'm sure west ham will buy half a dozen of them.

2.) 15 May 2019 21:22:20
Leave it to Marco and Marcel.

3.) 15 May 2019 23:00:42
Definitely agree GB and Smit let's leave it to them, they know what they want and need, Marcel would have been doing his homework and overtime. Think we are all going to enjoy this summer and look forward to that first game of next season.

4.) 16 May 2019 07:28:59
Gonna be a good ride mate.

5.) 16 May 2019 09:31:08
It will be a slow process getting rid so don't expect an exciting ride.

Good post YG.

This would be a pretty boring site if everyone who gave an opionin was met with - Don't worry about it - type answers lol.

You have Baines and Jags as people to move on, if either of them wanted stay on an extra year I would be very happy to have them, both good back up players. I am not sure whether they would be interested in playing second fiddle though. Has it been confirmed they are not resigning?

All of the players with 12 months left I would like to see move on.

2 years left, Schids I would keep. Played well recently and if Gana goes I think he would get a lot of game time, if he keeps his good form. Sandro not seen enough of to comment really, but I don't think he has even been given a chance to prove himself. But I would trust Silva and Brands in what ever the decision. Lookman I would really really like to keep. I always think he plays great when he comes on, I really don't understand why he doesn't get more game time.

I would also keep all of the "out of favour players". All are young and have great potential. Obviously Tosun is a bit older, but again I would like to see him given more of a chance.

I do understand your point of the post though. We have a lot of players who are cost the club money in wages that need to be moved on to make space for new players. So realistically it would be 2 or 3 or posibly more players to move on to get 1 big signing. I am hopeful a lot will move on though. It is going to be a very slow process so even just left down to letting players contracts run out, plus 1 or 2 sold, I think over the next 2 years we will do OK.

After reading a lot of what is said on this site, by Eds and posters, and after listening to Brandts comments about "January isn't a good time for transfer business", I wonder what he and Moshri must think after watching that performance and a few others in December.
Maybe January isn't a good time financially but it must be obvious to the hierarchy in the club that this squad needs working on.
You only get 2 windows a year to make changes so to rule one out seems naive or blatantly irresponsible.
Like most common sense posters and Eds have said, this is a long journey. I don't think any fan would disagree but what is obvious is the changes that have to happen need to be done when any opportunity arises.
He has moved Holgate and Dowell out on loan, Niasse and a few others will move too. Does this mean Holgate and Dowell aren't ready? If not, then when will they be.
The squad needs improvement, never mind the team needing some quality now.
When Brandts says January isn't a good time, does that mean players like Loftus-Cheek, Wilson at Bournemouth, Abrahams at Villa, Doucoure, Batshuayi, Maupay, Mitrovic, Sessegnon, Aranautovic etc etc, who may all move in January, aren't worth bidding for.
It doesn't matter when you can get them, just get them.
We need better players and we need to ship out under performers.
It can't all happen at once but we have to make consistent progress and show that we are capable of attracting better players.
I won't name names here but I think we all see who the fraudsters are and who are never going to make us a better team.
Time is short Mr Silva, ask Allardyce, Koeman, Martinez, Smith, Royle, Walker .

{Ed002's Note - What he means is that the players best suited to and wanted by the club may not be available.}

Spot on Ed. Instead of throwing money at it, the problem should first be solved by getting the basics right, starting with your assistants, staff and the source of your advice in carrying out their recruitment. It just appears to me that we are going round in circles on this. On to the match, we had 60 percent possession today, good stat but no good if you do not play as a Team and are as disorganised as they were today. That was quite possibly the worse I have seen Everton play this season and I include Spurs game in that. Incapable of passing the ball to our own player over a yard. Leicester have a huge lump at Centre back, yet our flanks either floated the ball in or overhit it, meat and drink to Leicester. Taking Gomez off instead of Walcott who was absolutely woeful today baffles belief, when he did go off for Tosun that is when we had our best two chances (yes I saw Kenny's shot in the first half, it hit the outside of the post by the way) came. Finally Grandson came with us today (liverpool supporter) , he was shouting and urging Everton on, better than some actual Everton supporters and he also was amazed at the amount of booing at the end. Booing your own Team achieves nothing and quite frankly is an embarrassment.

{Ed002's Note - Right, the critical thing is it is not always the best players which will be the best fit for the club. You need players who will fit in, adapt, work that little hole in the squad and improve the team. It may need a Danny Drinkwater to fill the specific hole in midfield and not an Adrien Rabiot. You can look at sides that have taken the scatter gun approach to transfers, spent vast amount of money on the hip kids and never gotten it right (West Ham is the great example of this). The smart coaches can look at a side and think, "we can get him playing better if we add x", and "we can open up defences if we can add y" - then you have a good idea what you are looking for. Everton has an issue to resolve with the imbalance - I have said this over and over but taking LW and playing them out of position will go horribly wrong. Everton want results before the window opens it would be Richarlison - Tosun - Walcott in their preferred positions that will give a better return than all of this "false 6" nonsense - then fix it when January comes. Oh...}

2.) 01 Jan 2019 16:46:25
I agree Ed, but maybe those targets are never going to choose us, would be wanted by other clubs in stronger positions or, if we wait for another window, will have better options.
Unfortunately we have to pay over the odds but until our league position justifies it, then that's what we have to do.
Silva, and especially Brandts, will have specific targets who they see as a perfect fit but players of quality who have choices would probably mean us missing out.
The players I mentioned are either on loan at other clubs, deemed as maybe surplus to requirement or at clubs where a big bid by us may tempt the selling club.

{Ed002's Note - Loftus-Cheek, Wilson at Bournemouth, Abrahams at Villa, Doucoure, Batshuayi, Maupay, Mitrovic, Sessegnon, Aranautovic was simply a random list of players - no more. I am not suggesting any of those are viable, except perhaps Doucoure. Everton do not need to pay over the odds, but they have been doing so. Brands should know better, Silva probably not but as I have said he doesn't provide a long term solution.}

If the transfer window buying was to stop now, I'd be more than happy.

It isn't going to, so hopefully I'll be delirious.

In previous windows for too long now, as fans, we have dreamed and been expectant but all too often left feeling disappointed and unfulfilled.

This is not now the case. All parts of the club, coaching, management and players as well as very supportive owners, all seem to be pulling in the same direction.

No longer are we left hanging, or joining the race for certain players who have already been grabbed by other clubs.

Now we move and sign players that are wanted, and whom I presume are, excited about joining a club who are moving, at pace, in the right direction up the league.

Further signings will follow, players no longer wanted will move on, the young players will be brought in at the right time and develop with the help of the seasoned pros we are signing.

Other so called "top clubs" are aware that we are now joining the fray and will become a force to be reckoned with.

Transfer windows are no longer something to dread, especially as we get to deadline day and wonder if our over inflated price pursuit of a second rate French midfielder from a Championship side will get over the line.

The sleeping giant awakes and I can't wait.

The "problem" is made up of lots of pieces to this jigsaw. Changing managers is part of the problem, but unfortunately because this manager isn't working out, it's got to happen again. He has demonstrated he can't work with/ motivate what he has got to work with. Part of the problem is he's not inspirational, I can't believe his demeanour changes to what we all see, when he is working with the players and staff.

Yes, a helluva lot of these players aren't "good enough" but it will take time to replace them, at least 5 transfer windows. What I would expect is an honest assessment and get rid of the worse offenders and bring in players who are young, keen and passionate about wanting to improve our club.

We need leaders not journeymen or depressive head down types (Jimmy Mc clones! ) The next manager choice HAS to be right, talk about pivotal moment in our history. I trust Brandts is the right man and Moshiri has put his money where his mouth is. Silva to me is another AVB or Avram Grant, seen as "the next big thing" but ultimately found wanting.

A manager like Benitez (preferably Benitez) is what I believe what we need. Problem is there aren't too many around. A positive outlook would be the first thing I'd have on the job advert. Not saying change now, unless we get the right man, but certainly need a new man in place by season end.

When I heard Watford were taking us to the FA, I thought it was because we sold them Tom Cleverley . if that was the case I'd pay up under Trade Descriptions Act.

Sam has gone, we can move on. No need now for cudda, wudda, shudda. He's history, as is Koeman, Martinez, Moyes et al.

Brands is the big positive. He now has time to see who he and the club can appoint in the "Head Coach" role. Then a team around him can take the club forward over the next 5 years. If we are having this conversation again before that then we are in danger of becoming Sunderland.

Personally, now Brands is in, I would like to see if we could also get Cocu from PSV. Just won their league, plays attacking football and could attract players like Lozano, De Vrij and the lad Jahanbaksh from AZ67.

Not convinced with Silva, doesn't stay long after initial impact and his win rate not very good.

Exciting 12 weeks ahead. Add to an ok squad with quality and weed out the bluffers and hangers on.

Very good player and would be a good addition. Echo what others have said, strong, fast and a proper defender. Good leadership and seems to have a winner's character.
This is one of our weakest areas so we need also to add more quality. Others we should be looking at include Mawson, Nathan Ake and Smalling from the Prem and De Vrij, De Ligt and Chiellini (out of contract and a big last pay day may tempt him, still the best defender in Europe) .
Add at least a left back and a few midfield/ striker options with pace and creativity and we should have a good season, next year.

not sure on Mykolenko, sa, seems not of the standard needed. Simms too is looking like a Championship player at best (which is lucky because that's where we'll be) . Tom Cannon has developed well at Preston and proved he can score at that level. Bogovic I believe is out of contract, along with Mina. I think Begovic deserves a go, don't rate Pickford at all - a goalie needs to be calm, dominant and consistent, all 3 things he aint.
Jury out on Dyche but would see what he can do when the bluffers and under achievers are ousted and replaced by players who are committed, focused and want to play for the club, not just kiss the badge and clap the crowd after another rank performance.

Sell . Maupay (£2.50) , Iwobi (£2.50) and Mina (£2.50)
Using the £7.50 combined with the £60 million . Tammy Abraham, Fikayo Tomori and James Ward Prowse, however think Mr Moshiri would need to stick his hand down the back of his Portuguese villa's settee for a few extra bob as those three would cost about an extra £40 million.

Onwards and upwards . let's use the Lincoln game to try something new . score goal
Last night was disappointing mainly because there seemed a lack of passion to put it right after going a goal down, besides Seamus kicking Trezeuget up in the air and Mina having a South American stand off with Wesley I get concerned by the lack of bite.
Don't think Silva is going to change his style of play but maybe a change of personnel in certain positions is worth trying.
I'd give Sidibe a start in front of Seamus, he has played there before, I'd agree with giving Bernard a game in a 10 role, his lack of pace and power wouldn't be as noticeable there and his trickery would help the striker.
Kean must start and Iwobi on the left, if Gbamin has recovered get him back in. Gomes was non existent but I'd still start him over Schneiderlin because he is still our 1 effective creative midfield player, put last night down to a bad day in the office.
Wouldn't blame the defence too much as they handled what was a pretty mobile AV front 6 with no help from midfield.
