Why has Heitinga gone for free? I thought he was still under contract? At least 2 millions worth!

Johnny's contract was up in the summer. Therefore no transfer fee. The move was probably made for two reasons. partially so Johnny has a chance to impress and try to get in Holand's World Cup squad, and mostly to save on his 60000 per week wages for the rest of the season, considering the fact he isn't playing much.

Indeed - that 60k per week offload is a boost just in itself :)

We got rid of his 60.000-a-week wages, that means that if his contract was valid till 30th June, that makes 150 days from today and adds up 1.285.714, 286 pounds on wages. So we can say we did well by letting him go on a free.
