I've been trying to get my head around the signings of Begovic, Gray and Townsend. Begovic I fully understand, Gray I sort of understand, but the signing of Townsend, to me is totally irrational. We have a fanbase that has been divided by the appointment of Benitez and the signing of Townsend will do little to instill confidence or calm the waters of discontent.

Not sure what all the fuss is about.

Gomes 0 goals 1 assist last season

Townsend 1 goal 5 assists last season

Fans were slating Gomes last season, we’ve now upgraded him and people still moaning.

Whilst we would all like to sign mbappe, haaland, etc we’re a mid table team who will struggle to attract the top talent.

We need to improve the squad and Townsend will do that.

Also we’re getting him for free, previously we’d have paid £20m for this type of signing!

I say give him a chance and see what he can do, why slate him before he’s even kicked a ball for us!

I don't really see how you can compare the 2, Andre Gomes is not a winger, I get your point in regards to Gomes having been poor last season, but a quick look at Townsends career stats leaves me uninspired at the least, he's a championship standard player.

Bernard 1 goal 0 assist
Iwobi 1 goal 2 assists
Townsend 1 goal 5 assists

So clearly better than we currently have in that position.

Chances created - 40

Alex Iwobi and Bernard combined:

Minutes - 1,993
Goals - 2
Assists - 2
Chances created - 26.

And in a god awful team he still manages to give our current players a run for their money.
Let him prove himself, if he does great, if he doesn't he'll sit on the bench much like Bernard and Iwobi are.
