Excellent article in the echo from Michael Ball - saying it as it is in terms of quality, effort and desire. Its going to be incredibly difficult to attract top players this summer - I just hope if we can't get top players in their prime we go for younger, hungrier players rather than great players coming towards the latter years of their career and looking for a juicy contract.

I think we need a bit of a mix of all the 3 groups you mentioned, TD. Obviuosly, without the mercenaries. We lack players that could be classed as leaders so I wouldn't mind too much if that kind of player is over 30. They would still need to be of decent quality. Will be a tough window but I still expect better players to come in, we'll find out soon enough eh.

Yea very good point about lack of leaders. When we go a goal down everyone just sort of slumps and there's nobody geeing them up or barking instructions etc.

I think the list of players to keep from this season is a lot shorter than that of to sell.
Only players to keep would be Pickford, digne, Godfrey, possibly Keane, Coleman, Doucoure, Allan, DCL Ricky, and James when he can (mainly for global appeal. ) I would sell the rest to the highest bidder and start new. That's only 10 players so I guess CA will have to get his boots back on. If we can buy well this season I really think we have a shot at Europe next year. But need to bring in 5 quality players to breathe down the neck of the players listed above, because all of them had a poor end to the season. Even DCL couldn't be arsed half the time.

We have a hell of a job on our hands getting rid of them though. The bloody wages the dead weight are on, no one else will pay it.

To me I think it will depend on the money available and what we want to achieve
Is it better to buy 4 players at 50m or 8 at 25m. Are the 50m players actually that much better than the 25m players. I think we have a weak squad - would we be better strengthening it rather than just strengthening the first 11
We need leaders but they don't necessarily have to old to be leaders, Grealish is a leader at Aston Villa, Maddison at Leicester, where's the next - we need them
Personally I don't want Koulibally at 50m = I'd prefer another 3 Nkounkous or 2 Godfreys
At the end of the day it will be up to CA and MB. On top of that they need to get rid of as much of the old guard that they can. THey won't be able to rid of them all but Iwobi, Sigurdson, Gomes, Delph, Besic, Bernard, Kenny are on that list for me (all the ones we shout out a cry of frustration when we see them on the team sheet or coming on as a sub) . Coleman I would keep as backup and because I think he is a better leader/ inspiration off the pitch than he's proved to be on it. I also don't see Holgate or Davies as Premiership quality but being pragmatic they can fill the squad so if they are happy to be stand ins (why they would be worries me) maybe we should let them.

{Ed0666's Note - a 50 million pound player is only a 50 million pound player if a club pays that fee. There’s gonna be bargains galore this transfer window especially in the French league.

Agree ED and we need to be grabbing them up - not the big names on big money.

{Ed0666's Note - I think there’s a lot of decent players who are affordable for Everton around like Caletta Carr. I’m sure a fee of up to 30 million would secure his services and give him a hundred odd grand a week I don’t see no reason why he wouldn’t sign for you. Or say Sven Botman same thing. These players would elevate you and who you would recoup you’re money at least if you sold them on in the future.
