Can anyone explain to me why Digne’s suspension has been reduced to 1 game? It’s either a red card or it’s not. Are there different levels to a straight red now or did the FA decide it was worthy of a 2nd yellow so 1 game ban?

{Ed025's Note - im not sure joe...but ill take it mate..

I’ll take it too ed025 because it’s much better than 3 games. I don’t understand how they can reduce it to 1. Do all straight red cards not carry an automatic 3 game ban?

{Ed025's Note - well i thought so joe, i actually think its a good idea to have like a traffic light system depending on the incident mate..

Id like to apologise ed025 and bow down to your superior football knowledge I really didn't think they would listen to the appeal. The tackle clearly wasn't as bad as I thought. I honestly thought it was a bad tackle but happy to admit when I'm wrong.

{Ed025's Note - no need WYred, i was surprised they changed their minds actually mate, i thought it was borderline at the time and just glad for our sakes that we got a sensible outcome, cheers..

Hi guys and Ed, I’m not sure if I’m mistaken, but violent conduct ( which Digne was sent off for) or serious foul play both carry a 3 match ban, but for other red card offences like professional foul (last man) only carry a 2 game ban, hence his reduction.

{Ed025's Note - good stuff logie...cheers..

No worries Ed, and I thought it'd gone to one which is usually when your sent off for two yellows.

Apparently we only appealed against the severity and not the card itself and they reduced as clear no intent.

The rules that were brought in the season are pretty much this around Red cards
Ifa player is sent off for a second bookable offence they will be handed a one-match ban.

A professional foul, for example holding an opponent back when they're through on goal carries a one match ban as well.
Straight red cards for dissent will result in being banned for two matches
And anything like dangerous tackles or violent conduct will result in a three-match ban which can be raised to four or more games in extreme cases.
Reds for racism will result in a more lengthy ban.

And in the current climate a Red for spitting will get you an automatic 6 match ban!
You can also gain an extra match ban if you do not leave the pitch in a reasonable time!
You also still get bans for totting up yellows 😬.

I thought a straight red was too harsh, it looked worse than it was and it's definitely an accident, so a 2nd yellow, hence 1 game ban is fair. Well done the FA or whoever for bringing in some common sense.
