31 days to recruit. Hopefully a lot of prep has already been done and we won't have to wait until the last day to get deals over the line. Everyone has an opinion on where we need to strengthen but for me the priority has to be an attacking midfielder who has a bit of craft.

We need someone who can see a pass (forward) and not be tempted to turn around and pass backward. Someone who can weigh in with a few goals, who can strike from distance, a player who just wants to score or be part of a goal scoring move.

We have a 25 goal a season striker, but after that there is no one who can get near to double figures. This is sub standard for any team with European aspirations.

So I would be really happy with any new signings that can share the burden of goal scoring with Lukaku or any player that can make us more relentless in an attacking threat.

Hopefully over the next month we will see what Koeman, with the help of our DOF can achieve to make us a team that shows more going forward. Whilst of course not neglecting the back.

{Ed002's Note - Lookman will be a good addition TA. There is a CB potentially on the cards as I have mentioned and an enquiry has been made recently about Nicolas Pepe (which implies a Gerard Deulofeu departure) but there is much interest in Pepe with Lyon and Newcastle both looking for a January deal.}

1.) 01 Jan 2017 17:42:22
This is what annoys me everyone saying we need a better creative midfielder barkley is that player but unfortunately every time he breaks forward he only has lukaku to pass to. Gerrard is right when he says our own fans our ruining barkley.

2.) 01 Jan 2017 17:54:40
Thing is willy. Moyes didn't trust him, Martinez wasn't honest with him and Koeman is frustrated with him. So exactly what is it that these 3 managers failed to see that you see?

And if indeed he turns out to be the player you and Gerrard say he will be then brilliant. We have one homegrown number 10 and another for competition. Win win. Not so annoying now is it.

3.) 01 Jan 2017 18:04:47
Cheers for the info Ed.

{Ed002's Note - You are welcome.}

4.) 01 Jan 2017 18:27:58
Toffee Ace I see where your coming from.

The thing for me is no wonder Barkley comes across as confused. Just read your 3 line summary of the managers he played under. And he's still only 23!

Enough to make anyone think twice about what they are doing and how to do it.

5.) 01 Jan 2017 18:28:17
Are we in for Memphis Depay?

6.) 01 Jan 2017 20:43:59
Toffee ace I think the 3 manages u mentioned have failed to see that there is no one to support rossi barkley.

7.) 01 Jan 2017 21:04:31
Very possibly Shakey. So would you support him with a creative midfielder and play Ross just behind Lukaku? I still think we need one.

8.) 02 Jan 2017 13:40:32
There is a great will here wanting Barclay to succeed because he is local but let's face it he has allways flattered to deceive time to get rid I feel.

9.) 02 Jan 2017 21:01:15
The main issue with Barkley is he is consistently played out of position. He is not and never will be a "No 10" he needs to be dropped deeper into midfield and creative players ahead of him for him to flourish. That's what all 3 managers have failed to do.

10.) 02 Jan 2017 23:51:42
Ross has got ability but no brain! He's too slow to recognise a pass. He simply does think quick enough for the prem.

Big difference.

I'll take anything right now Brian I'm getting a bit nervous 😩.

31 Aug 2016 16:56:29
Jack Wiltshire is on his way to Bournemouth. Thank goodness because I'm fed up with hearing about this pointless transfer. Maybe now SSN will focus on some transfer news and shake off their arsenal obsession.

Would anyone want to sign Valencia permanently in the summer. Tbf he's done well when coming on to support Lukaku.

Toffee ace

1.) 17 Apr 2017 12:28:02
Decent enough player for the bench when we go 2 up front. We should be aiming higher now though!

2.) 17 Apr 2017 14:22:35
Has there been any price mentioned? Think he's a good a squad player so would depend on that.

3.) 17 Apr 2017 15:34:40
I read that the clause in the loan says £14m. I'd take him for half that.

4.) 17 Apr 2017 15:52:57
Would be a very good squad player and if he is happy with that let's sign him. I believe the price is about £12 million, if this is true then ok let's get him maybe.

5.) 17 Apr 2017 17:36:24
I agree with the replies. He has value when we need to shake it up a bit and bring him on when one up top is proving ineffective for whatever reason. I would hope that we could sign him but negotiate a fee less than £12 million. Or just offer whatever we get for Niasse.

6.) 18 Apr 2017 09:17:23
I'm sceptical after the Lennon transfer. These moves tend to be bad moves. Some come off and we've had our fair share of success but I think we've moved on from this type of deal.

7.) 18 Apr 2017 09:20:46
Is he any better than Niasse seems to have turned out to be?

8.) 18 Apr 2017 10:56:03
Really wakka57! Valencia is in a totally different league to Niasse. Valencia imho when on the pitch has done very well. He's a very good plan b. Solsjaer was a great player used very effectively as a sub.

Although I don't see Valencia in the same league as him he could be effective enough in a similar role. Definitely 100 times better than Niasse.

9.) 18 Apr 2017 13:14:48
my mates a West Ham season ticket holder and they don't miss him, in fact they say he goes missing in so many games and went downhill after a big impact when he signed, I believe he was all that was available at the time, and I actually think he is better than Niasse.

10.) 18 Apr 2017 21:42:56
Fair enough wakka. Your last post did not seem to indicate the view that you think he's better than Niasse. Our set up seems capable of getting average players to good players. Gana being a prime example. No one was excited about his signing. Turns out as good a one as we have had in a long time.

Walsh and Koeman will do the same thing to more players. I'd put my house on it.

24 Mar 2017 18:04:34
I think it's time for a dose of realism.

Lukaku is the best striker in the world playing outside of regular CL football. This cannot and will not continue. We have a job on our hands to get into the CL this season and let's be honest having played more games than the rest with the exception of Liverpool and still being 7th it's very unlikely that we will qualify. Even if we did he will still jump at the chance of playing for Chelsea if they came in for him, and that's fair enough.

It'll be a gamble keeping him this summer if he doesn't sign a new contract and he is saying now that his mind is made up.

So the best thing in my opinion is get the very best deal for him as soon as we can so that we can move on without the player.

Lukaku will leave us, that's for sure. We just need to be wise about the timing. It's a shame I know but I feel it's reality.

1.) 24 Mar 2017 19:39:36
International break expect the Lukaku press bonding again.

2.) 24 Mar 2017 19:48:34
I think I disagree to be honest. Keep him for this season and see what he does for us next year. As he says over and over, he us ambitious and will continue to show his talent rather than sulk. Who knows, he may get us into CL next year depending on our clubs ambition and who we get in in the summer. With 1 or 2 years remaining on a contract, he won't go for cheap either way providing he's continuing to show the goods and score the goals.

3.) 24 Mar 2017 21:51:18
We won't get as much with 1 year left Kingo. He says he's made his mind up and won't be signing. I'd love to keep him but at some stage we will have to stick or twist on this one.

4.) 24 Mar 2017 22:25:58
Or keep him for the next two seasons and let him go for free. Insane? Not really, yes we would potentially be losing a possible 80m+, but if we keep him and his goals, and build around him then in two years we might make Champions league. Which would make 80m small potatoes. It's a gamble but could well be worth it. Some may say what if he downs tools and plays poorly. Can't see that myself as its only two seasons, and if he is adamant he needs to be playing for a "big club" then he can't afford to let his standards drop. Just a thought really.

01 Mar 2017 21:10:27
Great! Luis Enrique will step down at the end of the season. The press ain't going to leave us alone now are they. Every interview between now and when they appoint a head coach will be Koeman to Barcelona.

Toffee ace

{Ed002's Note - I dealt with this weeks ago on the Barcelona page.}

1.) 01 Mar 2017 21:17:24
Koeman is not their 1st choice so do not panic just yet. Another point worth mentioning is managers like to keep their jobs and Everton have a reputation for giving managers time something which cannot be said for Barcelona. Koeman will have plenty more chances to manage Barcelona but I honestly think he left Southampton for us because he bought into the project.

2.) 02 Mar 2017 08:21:21
Cheer up mate R K has already said he is with Everton for the project, there will be news of a new stadium shortly and now we have Mr Moshiri on board, also R K is putting together a great team and I reckon the final pieces of this jigsaw will be done in the summer, chin up mate he's not going anywhere apart from up the table with us, GuernseyBlue.

3.) 02 Mar 2017 10:44:01
think you missed what toffeeace was saying. it wasn't Koeman is going it was that from now until Barcelona appoint a new manager, the media will ask him the question at every press conference and even if he says he is staying they will just report he is willing to leave typical press.

23 Feb 2017 23:45:56
Leicester have sacked their championship winning manager.

This is so embarrassing I don't know where to look. I've just watched a montage of his moments last season on SSN and I just don't know what to say. The man performed the impossible and gets treated as if he's a perennial loser.

Leicester should hang their heads in shame. I'm gutted for him.

Toffee ace

1.) 24 Feb 2017 09:28:29
Agree Toffee Ace. Still in the champions league and above the relegation places, Ranieri should have got the rest of the season to save them at least.

2.) 24 Feb 2017 15:29:16
I'm afraid footballs a business and the money now. if Leicester were to go down, there's too much dosh to be lost for the club and as certain sections of the team had not been fully committed to Ranieris methods this season there was no alternative for the directors of the club but to remove him to get the team functioning and getting points on the board again.

3.) 24 Feb 2017 16:24:33
Sounds familiar!

4.) 24 Feb 2017 18:33:24
Two words. Player power.

Happening at all clubs nowadays. to chat to owner behind managers back.

5.) 24 Feb 2017 18:48:56
The team they have is not much better than any of the bottom 6. Once Kante went it was always going to be tough, Vardy should have gone to Arsenal. it is no surprise no one put in big bids for their top players like Marhez and Drinkwater as they wouldn't get in the team of a top 6 club.
It will be interesting to see what is achieved by whoever comes in. Let's hope there is at least a bit of an upturn for their next game against the reds.

6.) 24 Feb 2017 18:53:11
Hope they go down now. Absolute disgrace, players should hang there heads in shame.

12 Feb 2017 07:43:16
Ok, not 3 points but a very useful draw. Defence and GK doing their jobs well to keep a clean sheet. Borough might not score many but they had a few chances that Robles needed to save.

We're unbeaten still this year in the league and still have momentum. Koeman said he was pleased with the point and that's good enough for me.

1.) 12 Feb 2017 11:28:48
Fair result mate but I reckon Funes Mori was a bit iffy at times, the lads worked hard for that result tough team away from home, GuernseyBlue.

Keeping hold of him is a dangerous game to play. After next summer despite how well he plays, he will start to recede in value as there will be less than 2 years left on his contract. So by then we would either need to be in a position to satisfy his aspirations or be prepared to take a smaller fee in the summer after next season.

I'd like him to stay, but he seems hell bent on leaving so why not just let him go and use the money to build a team not so reliant on one player to score goals.

Gylfi is for me an upgrade on Ross. He should be signed in the summer because he is the quality we're in need of. I've watched him live a few times this season and trust me if we can get him we should. This guy has done it in the prem for years and still has a long contract left in him.

Ross can learn a lot from him too so would like them both. And if/ when lukaku leaves, we will need his goals to add to whatever striker is signed to replace him as the new striker will not score as many as lukaku does atm.

It's fine to give youth a chance. But the reality is they need to be as good as our aspirations if CL. Let's be honest. If we focused just on youth coming through we will linger mid table. We will need good signings to offset the deficiency that comes from having too much youth and that's experience and a little guile. This league already has six teams capable of CL qualification. For us to make it seven we will need some top signings of our own.

To be fair Ed 02 Everton also have the money, the desire and a plan for the club to go forward. I think it's highly unlikely a move to Wolfsburg will be taken, but that being said the list of suitors is still long enough to see him leaving in the summer. And as you say, if past issues can be resolved then for me it will be Chelsea should a deal materialise.

Toffee ace

{Ed002's Note - Everton do not have the money Wolfburg has, and are not regulars in Europe. Everton have had their chance with the contract and really screwed it up. I think he wants to move on this summer and Everton will get a good fee.}

I think they will keep him in the under 23s until the end of the season then see if he can stay fit during pre season. I hope he will get a chance after that as he is so versatile and can play as cover across the back too.

He would love to come home. Playing for us next season would give him a new lease of life. It would also make financial sense. We would get a larger revenue stream by having him in team, sky alone would show more live games of us.
