Why can't we do what villa just did, identify a player and bam, the first anyone heard about it is when he's signed the contract? Danny ings a great signing for them! Who saw that coming?

I’m not convinced villa have done great business - similar to what we’ve done in previous years and look where that’s got us.

They’ve paid £25m for ings which is a lot of money for a player in last year of contract with a history of injuries.

They’ve paid £25m for Bailey who looks like a decent signing but he has no premier league experience. Could be a signing like Klaasen.

They’ve paid £30m for buendia who admittedly was amazing last season but that was in the championship. 1 goal in 36 games when in premier league. Will he perform to same levels this season?

Ashley Young on a free - he’s 35! We’ve got fans moaning about us getting Townsend on a free yet he’s 5yrs younger.

They’ve also sold their best players and talisman in Grealish.

Whilst we haven’t set the world alight with our 3 transfers I’m happy with them and think they’ll all add something to the team and at £1.8m or whatever they cost it’s some great business from the club.

{Ed002's Note - Another bitter and embarrassing post. You need to stop it.}

Bringing in 3 decent players, losing 1 and 20 million profit, not bad business though.

Ed 02, love your even handed intelligent insight, however this is a fans site, we are entitled to be biased, bitter and twisted we wouldn't be true fans if we were not🤔😂.

{Ed002's Note - You forgot embarrassing as well.}

I think Rafa is doing ok as well, let’s wait and see who else he brings in.

Without wanting to sound bitter and embarrassing isn’t it best to judge transfers at the end of a season?

Surely that’s when it can be said if a transfer has been good business?

Sorry Ed002 not sure it’s a bitter post.

Just pointing out that fans raving about the villa signings like we were with similar signings in previous years but they don’t all work out.

King, bolasie, kean, Delph, Bernard, klaasen, Walcott, Tosun all players we thought were decent signings when we made them but it never worked out.

Until a player has done a season for their new team it’s really hard to say that it’s a great bit of business.

My point is how do we know that villa have done better business than ourselves until we’ve seen how both teams perform? Nothing bitter in that, just a bit of realism.

{Ed002's Note - So why the attack on the players?}

Not sure it was an attack on the players.

They all could turn out to be amazing signings for villa, but was just pointing out potential issues.

I’d have liked Ings at Everton but think £25m when in last year of contract and his history of injuries is a lot to pay for him.

Bailey could take the league by storm, but also may not, numerous players don’t make the switch to the premier league that easy or perform as well in previous leagues. Everton have had a fair few of these players, Ramirez and klaasen to name just 2.

Buendia again looks a decent player but didn’t do amazing when in premier league before - that may now change with more game time under his belt.

Ashley young on a free I was just pointing out all the stick Townsend on a free to us received because of his age.

Erm 🤔 I wasn't raving I said I like what they did, but that's on paper, they might fall flat but at this point I think they did good business! My opinion!

Tom Tom spot on. Look great on paper. We’ve recruited numerous players that we all thought would be great but didn’t work out.
Everyone entitled to their opinions and that’s what’s great about this site, I’m just not convinced great business but that’s probably because I’ve seen us recruit similarish players that didn’t work out. Villa may be totally different and have got it spot on.
However think we have to wait till they’ve played a fair few games in the league to judge how good any player is.

That’s how it should be for all players, we’ve some of our own fans salting our recruitment before we’ve seen them play in the league.

I don't think the praise some of us were giving Villa was necessarily about who they have signed, more about how efficiently it seems the business was done.

We are all well aware that more players seem to fail than succeed in this league, but I think Villa have at least made decisions, and sorted things out.

Isn’t that what we used to do Efcone?
We made decisions and bought early in the window and seemed to act efficiently but now we’re in a heck of a mess because of our previous recruitment.

I know it’s frustrating seeing teams around us signing these players but from previous experience of our recruitment I think it’s better to not rush in and make quick decisions and just ensure we make the right decisions on transfers and not worry if it takes an age to get it done.

Also we are so focussed on our own team we have not much knowledge of what goes on at other teams - they may also take a while to appoint a player - no idea how long they’ve been tracking their transfers,

I think our problem in the past was being focused on a player like Gylfi and just throwing money until they agreed and then throwing silly wages out
Now we are staring down the barrel of the FFP gun, we rolled the dice to get into Europe then pushed in more money to roll the dice again, and now paying the price

Villa could be one hell of a side this season if it all clicks, so could Leicester.

I think what most are overlooking is its Villas defence that needs an addition or two.

The big issue is letting grealish go BUT if they replace him with cantwell that's a GREAT signing. they can build a team around that lad and tbh he's still a long way from reaching his peak. Cantwell will become a top top player in the mould of grealish. not many of that type around. timed it perfect.

Ings: A risk due to his injury record but a great player who will score goals when fit. Plus, they have Ollie Watkins so the risk is limited.
Bailey: Hell of a signing. Top signing.
Buendia:Not a bad player, but definitely not worth 30m. An okay-ish buy for me but financially unsavy.

Young:Don't see the point myself but has plenty of experience.
Cantwell:Would be an excellent purchase. would need time though imo.
Good business but there are a couple of downsides. Bailey is a fantastic signing, Cantwell would also be.
