Delap is an ok player, I don't question that, but he is not a significant step up to what we already have.
If we are going to try and bring him in, it must surely be a loan with an option to buy, with the motivation of a permanent move.

He might, with a run of games, show he's the striker we have been looking for, but as things stand, my doubts remain.

If Beto goes out, then maybe, but I still think we need a different (nippy and smaller) type
of striker too, so that we can mix it up a bit when needed.

23 Aug 2026 14:25:21
He's not even an okay player. We should stay as far away from him as we can. 32 goals in 160 games is not what we need.

Barry is the main striker right now and he's getting better and better. Since pre season, he's got 5 goals and 1 assist. If you keep playing him from the start, then he'll gain confidence.

Beto needs to go, and for me, Ricky would be the one to go for regardless of yesterday, but for a realistic price of 20 to 25m. He plays well on his own and can play with another striker, which gives you more options than we do now.

23 Aug 2026 17:01:22
Barry is a poor footballer. We need a lot better imo.

23 Aug 2026 12:54:07
Well happy with our first game but Really hope we can get a new striker sorted this window, even Delap on loan would do.

{Ed025's Note - we certainly need one GB, get rid of Beto and maybe have Barry as back up for now and see if he can progress, if not ditch him as well in the next couple of windows..

I hope the result yesterday doesn't mean we won't strengthen further. Still think we may get 2 loans in, but something tells me Moyes won't be pursuing a rb.

23 Aug 2026 13:16:53
Moyes said that right back might start suiting Rohl, looks like we may not be bringing one in, and was talking to a guy who's an Ipswich fan and he said Delap had one good season and he misses far too many chances, don't know myself, haven't seen him play but a loan deal would suit us im thinking.

{Ed025's Note - im with you BB..

23 Aug 2026 14:43:28
Loan deal would be ideal. Hope he finds his shooting boots.

23 Aug 2026 12:22:54
As most would probably agree, you shouldn't change a winning team but in a few weeks time when everyone is back up to speed an available, it is not really the personnel that I am most concerned with but the setup.

It was refreshing to see one player sat deep in the midfield yesterday, as opposed to the usual two. If Jimmy and Norgaard do come into the 11, I hope Moyes continues with giving 2 of the midfields a bit more freedom to impact the game higher up.

Norgaard or Hackney sat with 2 of KDH, Jimmy or Armstrong ahead should be the shape moving forward, especially at home.

So next Preston on Wednesday and the burning question is how much will Moyes tinker with the team selection. Obviously we want to go deep in the cups if we can as last year was a non entity. My question is to fellow blues: do we go same again or virtually same again and then pretty much same again on Saturday.

That's 3 games in 7 days for most of them but they should all be very fresh and we do have an extended 3 week International Break coming up in a few weeks.

I would be happy with 1 or two changes but nothing more than that; we need to get some momentum going.

What are you thinking, fellow blues?

23 Aug 2026 12:02:46
I think this season is different to recent ones in that we have better quality in depth.

I think Dibbling, O'Brien, Keane, Garner, Aznou, and I'd try Johnson as the No10 which he did for Spurs quite a bit, should start.

Barry should be playing every game, and Beto only coming on as a sub late on in games. I would leave Rohl on as well to give him more competitive time in the RB role.

Jarrad had a few knocks yesterday and I'd give him the time off.

23 Aug 2026 12:04:03
I'd give Branthwaite a rest as he took a couple of knocks yesterday and he's only just coming back after injury. He has to start in all our PL games.
Think I'd also give Dibling a run out. Otherwise, I agree pretty much same team.

23 Aug 2026 13:05:08
I think we're fine to make 3 or 4 changes.
I'd be happy to see Dibling, Alcaraz, Johnson, O'Brien and Keane come in.

23 Aug 2026 13:28:17
Strongest team available please. Utterly fed up with never winning this one.

23 Aug 2026 13:32:41
Don't care who plays, as long as we go into the game with a positive attitude, and go for the win. About time we started going all out in the cup competitions, and not settle for a "good run". Palace have shown it can be done, so just bloody do it.

23 Aug 2026 14:00:23
It's a squad game, and sticking with the same 11 for 3 in 7 is devoid of modern management and will upset those on the bench. 3 or 4 at least changes, surely, and we should still expect a win. This DM bashing one minute for tactics or selections vs then play strongest 11 every game thinking is contradictory.

If we don't have 25 better players than a team below us, that's the problem, not the manager or anything else.

23 Aug 2026 17:00:34
I'd defo make some changes.
Pickford
Rohl
OBrien
Keane
Aznou

Hackney
Garner
Dibbling

George
Barry
Johnson

Give Alcaraz 45min.

23 Aug 2026 17:22:52
It's not manager bashing to want the strongest 11 playing a cup game. It's a desire for silverware. Wow, some of these posts do make me chuckle.

23 Aug 2026 09:34:57
Watched Richarlison last night, bloomin awful, but I have a theory. Whenever we see him have a good game (here or Spuds) he has played from the left. Straight through as a 9 seems restrictive, yes a know he played 9 for Brazil but look what was around him.

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Aug 2026 12:27:24
Although not very professional of him, my theory is he's wanted a move back to us for well over a year now and hasn't shied away from telling the world this. Before the season started (even though a fan of his) , he's already told his new boss this.

He's started the new season in a Spurs team that has rejected a bid from us, and he clearly has no desire to play for them. I'll be shocked if he starts the next game.
The sooner he comes home the better for all parties.

23 Aug 2026 08:45:32
First half, it looked like nothing had changed and Palace looked like they could score with every attack. Got to say that Wharton is a tidy player. But we rode our luck and, thanks to Pickford, we stayed in it.
As the game went on, though, we settled down and the two young lads in midfield started to get a grip of the game. An absolute blinder of a goal by KDH lifted the team and you could see the confidence grow in them from there. What was particularly pleasing to see was when their keeper had the ball, we had a high press and stopped them from playing out.

Nice to see Barry score even if it did come off the back of the defender's shoulder.
So decent first game; still things to work on defensively, but hopefully getting a proper right back will help there. Yes I know Rohl played ok there, but we need more than ok if we want to progress. As for a striker, we’ll get one who can hold the ball up and score goals and we’re sorted.
My MOTM Pickford, but for him we would have lost that game.

23 Aug 2026 09:23:53
Rate Wharton highly (not within our price range) .

23 Aug 2026 10:13:45
We had a chance to buy him before he went to Palace. Another of our past blunders.

23 Aug 2026 10:54:46
Warton came from Blackburn in the Championship, straight into Palace's first team, and bossed most games he played. Got an international call up, so all this not ready for the prem nonsense that Moyes and Dyche give is crap. Heard Moyes using Tim Cahill as an example, but he was signed 22 years ago.

Maybe if you put them straight in, then they will be prem ready. Think dibling should've been brought on yesterday, as Moyes is killing his confidence. Maybe if he was 6 foot 6 then he would love him.

23 Aug 2026 12:25:00
There is obviously a big difference to both leagues. Hackney himself said he was surprised by the physicality of it yesterday, and that you get punished for a single mistake. But you never know how a player will take to it until you play them.

23 Aug 2026 13:04:49
Surely that's how you learn. You don't learn by being on the bench, although Moyes seems to think differently, as he said last season that it would do Rohl good to sit on the bench for a season.

I agree over Dibling too. The lad's knuckled down and had a good pre-season and deserved to come on, plus he's a better player than Johnson anyway.

23 Aug 2026 13:46:48
Done so so in pre-season. Maybe try him against North End (Dibling) . Think RB is covered now, Patterson (nobody wants him) , Rhol, Garner, O'Brien. An absolute must is a striker Barry as support. We are looking stronger as a squad.

23 Aug 2026 08:22:05
Those who watched the game/saw it live, what was Munoz like? Is he the answer to our RB problem? Only saw he was caught in possession for our first goal

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Aug 2026 09:02:43
Didn't have his best game and have seen him play better. Think at the end of the game, Moyes went over to him and said Rohl is better than you, mate.
Seriously, I think there is a very good chance he's going to be our new right back.

23 Aug 2026 09:13:08
I have the same question for those that watch live on Myko. My opinion on Myko is based on watching home games live (South Upper) . Yes, he makes mistakes (far less than Tarks) , and other supporters think differently.

Best I can say is I don't notice our LB generally, whereas the likes of McNeil (when here) stood out as awful. Couldn't make it yesterday, the perils of age.

23 Aug 2026 07:46:42
Good game of football yesterday - sure there will be frustration throughout the season but I enjoyed first game.
We look far more positive and actually good to watch. Ball retention hugely improves and young energised midfield is what we have been missing.

Plus Barry got his goal - think he'll be here all season so best get behind him - hopefully he gets 10-15.
Moyes picked a good team - very happy!

Awful player, but don't care if it bounces off his arse as long as it goes in.

Ed 25,

I don't know if this question has been asked before, is the website able to integrate a live forum on match days for us posters to communicate and discuss events as they happen on the pitch.

Cheers ED

{Ed025's Note - yes Col we have a live forum for all the games mate, i will put you on it for the next game..

Fabulous. Thankyou.

{Ed025's Note - no problem mate..

George was MOM for me today, followed closely by Armstrong. TG never stopped all game, running at their defence and taking players on. If it wasn't for his poor finishing, he would have had a couple of goals today. Looked a total different player from when he was on loan.

Armstrong is going to be some player in the next season or so. I noticed he was trying to drive forward a lot more today, had some nice touches and linked up well with the rest of the team. Put in some great tackles too.

We got a bit lucky before we went in front, what a save by JP to deflect the ball on to the post, but we stuck at it and actually played some nice football.

Barry may have scored but the lad isn't good enough. He had a poor first half, wasn't pressing enough or making himself available when we looked to attack. Fair play, he got his goal but not too sure why he was celebrating like it had just won te World Cup! He did linknup better in the second half to be fair to him.

Beto, oh where do you start with him? We need to sell him asap as he is out of his league. His passing is atrocious, one poor pass almost led to Palace scoring. He went through one on one and ended up with 3 of their defenders closing him down. His touch is also shocking. He brings absolutely zilch to the team, bar working hard and enthusiasm, sadly that isn't enough when playing in this league.

All in all, a good day at the office. Starting our home games off with a win and a clean sheet, couldn't have asked for more really.

Rohl deserves a mention too. Started off a bit shaky but grew into his role, he was busy at both ends throughout the game. Hackney had a decent debut too. A lot more positives than negatives to take from today's game. Good start though. UTFT

B Spud, agree with your points. I agree B&B are just poo poo! Armstrong was brilliant and will be amazing, he's just 19!
