Hardly amazed it was a topic of conversation. Think you have totally missed the point here. The fact is, we should have these players identified long before the window opens. Get them in so they can have a full pre season and not last minute.

As for the four signings, two were loans from last season, one is a good prospect, and the other is injured. But let's just wait and see eh.

In an ideal world I'd totally agree with you. However, being realistic, Everton isn't the attraction to top players we think it is. So, if the club have identified that level of player to improve us going forward, it's not going to be done until late in the window. Take Doue for example.

If the Rags are to be believed, he's our top choice for RB. He's going to wait to see what options he has before accepting to join us.

If it's a choice of waiting until the deadline to sign the likes of Doue, or sign someone like that Celtic RB at the start of the window, I know which option I prefer.

Someone said in reply to my post on Richy being awful the other night, that maybe it is because he wants away! I loved the guy when he was with us and his sale helped us scrape PSR but honestly do we want a guy that is going to sulk and cost us £30 mill! I do wonder if the Club are going to pull out a Felliani!

What I find frustrating is we said that when Moshiri took over FBS. That may be why fans are so frustrated; at the rate we are going, it's going to be another 30 years until we win anything. Is this the longest time in our history between silverware?

We might not ever win anything again. Most clubs don't. I get it, but we can't lump it in with the FM era. We were promised CL inside of 5 years, and if you were like me, you let every one of your football friends know in the most obnoxious way and acted like it was all a certainty. Ended up feeling embarrassed by the club 3 of those years, and then a hollow husk of a fan after that for 2 years. I'm just glad that we will certainly remain an EPL club with a stable, boring, steady mid table obscurity. So many fans have very short memories, and unfortunately this club let its hold as a giant slip away. Took too long to move stadium, should have been 50000 seater 30 years ago and been extended to 60 65000 by now, but the rose tinted old skool didnt take their chances cos they loved the old lady, disgraceful and hamstrung us. We let the big 5 turn into a 4. Let our, yes our, idea of a EPL be taken out of our hands and were rapidly allowed to be manoeuvred into the museum of football.



Still have a load of old fans who think all you need are a trinity of players and a few beers to make a top manager and be champion again. I doubt we will win the top flight for 100 years. Our only hope is the elusive League Cup. But look at the winners. The big 4 mostly still take it seriously enough that its a monopoly. And there is now 3 or 4 other clubs as well as the big 4 who are bigger than us. FM should be in jail. And our fans should forget the past. Like the big clubs from yesteryear and get used to being historic but not big. People are snobs about the lesser Euro cups but we should be aiming for one in the next decade. Not taking the city name has turned out to be a marketing own goal for 50 years. Hindsight is wonderful, but we really historically love to shoot our own feet off with a .50cal anti aircraft cannon.

The club have made an application to increase the number of full capacity stadium events from 4 to 8 for music and live events. It's a big step forward for the club and a huge money maker.

They also applied to tweak the wording of the planning condition that governs 'extracurricular activities' to say "non-sporting" rather than "non-football".

Puzzled as to why that was not done in the first place?

LFC have permission for 6 currently, but not in July. Not sure why we only went for 4 initially? Why do we always have to play catch-up?..

I'm hoping we'll get to Spurs levels of 30 per year within the next 5 years. You could be looking at triple our current revenue from the football and stadium events. That's a level that puts us back up there with the top 6.

The owners make real money elsewhere. Football clubs are not get rich quick schemes. And yes, it's been repeatedly stated that all profits the club makes will go back into the club. Not anything to do with how good Roma are doing or how many cars they sell, but a single entity self sufficient and self funded.

It's really not hard that being rich doesn't mean spend how you like. Have we not understood this yet?

They'll make their money when they sell the club. A Premier League club that is successful, in 5 to 10 years could be worth between 7 to £10b, maybe more, and even us without success would likely be worth between £3 to £5b.

The Americans are buying up all of the clubs and will no doubt make it a closed off league at some point.

Closing off the league would probably double the value overnight.

I hope this never happens but the world is a changing place and football as we know it, is long in the memory.

If Jake O'Brien can be persuaded to hang fire on his wish to leave, a new manager, some time in the next 12 months, would very likely have a different view, between him and Tarks, as a first team starter.

O Brien must have been totally demoralised last season, being played out of position for virtually the whole season.
Don't think we have seen enough of him in central defence to form a proper opinion on his ability.


What I do know is that if he goes he will need replacing in the window, as we cannot go through a season with only Tarkowski, Keane, and Branthwaite (with a fitness question mark) as our only central defenders.

{Ed025's Note - i cant see the point of getting rid of him myself FG, hes young and as far as im concerned able to be a good option at centre half, if he wants to go then i can understand that but Tarks and Keano are not getting any younger and giving Tarks the captaincy was a poor choice for me which means he is not getting dropped any time soon, a bit blinkered by the manager on that one i feel..

Agree with you on that Ed; we've shot ourselves in the foot with this.

Given he has been captaining the side last season, it was always likely to go to him but we should be happy to drop him if his form goes. Unlike Coleman, he won't get easily injured and spend the season in the medical room as he's made of steel it also explains why he's so slow sometimes

I thought that about the captaincy Ed. It just makes it all the harder (and creates pressure and silly headlines) if he needs to be dropped, which is more than possible if his form (as it has before) drops.

Personally, I would have made a fresh start and instead of promoting the vice captain, I'd have given the armband to KDH.

Why, if it's true that he has requested to leave, would we keep an unhappy player? It never works out and the player gets what they want in the end. Think about the likes of Barmby, Rooney, Lescott etc. In the end, we had no choice but to let them go.



The difference with Jake is that he won't be heading to any of the top teams, it will be a backwards step for him if he does get his wish. If leaving is his wish, that is. If he wants out, then the club should get the most they can for him and wish him all the best.

To be honest with knowing absolutely nothing about the lad apart from seeing how he behaves on the pitch, imo he’s like Maupay but with more of an attitude problem and I just get a disruptive bad egg vibe, so not sorry if he goes elsewhere.

Maupay is a world class shi9houser. Delap is just a young kid who's favourite manager signed him and then walked out, leaving his dream in tatters. I agree though, I'd lose no sleep over him going for big money to anyone else. I think anything other than a loan for the guy is crazy.

Wood? Well, I was all for him 3 years ago, but it was mostly derided on here, and even 3 years later? On a free or tiny fee for 12/24 months he'd do a solid enough job.

Not pretty, but he's good for a goal every 3 games, and apparently he's a good bloke. Not exactly the revolution we all dream, but meh, why not?

Wood could not do all the running around that Moyes expects from his striker. The lad has shown he can finish, but in our set up he might be too knackered to get on the end of anything.


Ancelotti to DCL, stay in and around the penalty area, and don't waste energy running down the lines. DCL had one of his best goal scoring seasons that year, I think.

One click bait rumour with no basis in fact and the majority of the fanbase go into meltdown. Would it really be a disaster if he did leave? I can think of a dozen players I'd be more disappointed to lose from the squad. If he does want to go, let him go, we'll survive.

Right on the Bull there, JB, mate.

I think his games at CB were Bournemouth (A) - W, Forest (A) - W, Aston Villa (A) - W, Leeds (H) - D, Arsenal (A) - L, and then he played the Sunderland Cup game, which was a draw, and then we lost on pens.

The sample size is tiny. Also, most of his games were away from home, which is where most of our success came last season.

I think he looks a decent enough player, but if we lost him, I wouldn't bat an eyelid, as long as we had a replacement coming in. Keane should never put an Everton shirt on again if we are serious about winning football matches. Tarkowski has been on the wane for a while now, and his drop off is getting dramatically worse as time goes on for me.

JB is a top quality player, and I have personally been of the opinion that his injuries were mainly down to his body adapting and growing into his colossus frame, being a young lad, but it is still a concern going off recent history.

For how big J'O is, he is s***e in the air and timid. He doesn't have decent pace and turns like a cart horse. We could sell him for decent enough money and turn a profit on him, and I think it would be very easy to improve on him.

Matte Smets would be my top target and would be a great partner with JB.

Robert Renan would be a more unknown and cheaper alternative. Shades of Yerry Mina, who, when fit, was a brilliant CB.

Nathan Zeze, who we have already been linked to, is another option.

Madness, mate. He's an average CB at best, only slightly better there than at RB. As you say, if this is not a rumour, then let him leave. We would get more than we paid for him, so it's not all bad.

As BN has pointed out, and his knowledge of players is outstanding (playing that bit down a bit so he doesn't get a big head ? only joking with you, pal) , there are plenty of better options out there at reasonable prices, so it won't be a massive loss at all.

For me, he is slightly better than Keane, so I think we will survive him leaving.

Me too, BN, and I think there will be a few through the door whether we sell anyone or not. Not too sure if we need to supplement transfers in by getting rid of players, but I wouldn't argue if we could raise a few quid by selling those you mention.

Also, I can't see anywhere where someone has said he is rubbish.

I have no problem at all with Job leaving, but not until we have a replacement. I would be very fearful he won't be replaced, then the back line would have Tarks, Keane and Mykolenko in it, again.
Branthwaite's minutes seem to still be managed carefully, so he will be rested, and if he gets injured, we will be back to the back-line that finished the season so poorly.



Tarks' stats last season were among the top centre backs in the league, but that's not what my eyes have seen watching him every week.

It seems to me that Moyes thought when he came back to Everton he would fall back into the way things were. He was used of picking players he wanted and even though finances were tight mostly got his way. What appears to be happening now is TFG want young players who they hope will improve the team for a year or two and sell them on for a large profit. Which in a sense is a good business model if recruitment done well. Moyes wants experienced players who can come in and make an instant difference, however these players are at an age where most are looking for possibly one last large big contract and unfortunately the club are never going to sell them on for much of any profit.
While I’ll support whoever plays and manages Everton at times it’s done through gritted teeth.
Last season, the way our manager carried on toward younger players in my opinion was a sackable offence and could have damaged Everton’s reputation for recruiting and bringing through younger players.
Which leads me through to Jake O Brien. He has been badly left down by 2 Everton managers.

Dyche refused to play him and Moyes seems only happy to play him out of position. This was a result of poor recruitment of a right back which we’re still waiting for. He should at least give him an opportunity to prove himself as a centre back and if not happy go their separate ways next Summer. Keane should be a centre back that should be used very sparingly, and if the rumours West Ham are considering him, I would thank him for his time at Everton and wish him all the best. Tarky will do ok as long as he has JB next to him as he has to pace to cover for Tarky. However, last season proved Tarky isn’t suited to passing out from the back and towards the end of the season was responsible for a high number of errors which lead to goal scoring opportunities. I personally would keep O Brien as the third centre back and if Tarky got injured I’d hope Jake would take him opportunity and cement his place as a centre back partnership with JB.

I’m hoping we’ll still get a left and right back in and ideally a striker even if it’s on loan.

But, hey, the guy's an average right back so he must be an average centre back. Think about this, Branthwaite gets injured and that leaves Keane and Tarkowski as our centre back partnership. Like a lot of fellow blues, hope Jake stays and if he leaves good luck to him. But to make Tarkowski captain after being one of the worse defenders in the past 2 seasons, I don't get it. He is in his thirties, his passing is poor and has no pace. Yet because he is captain he is in the team; you earn your place not given it.

Look how many times Odegaard was on the bench when fit — that was the team that won the league. So to think this captaincy gives you automatic selection is a Moyes thing. He cocked up Saturday and Branthwaite bailed him out. His long passes often fall short or go out for throw ins, turning possesion over to the opponent. Just my take UTFT

I've always really liked Tarks, think he has been an excellent signing, esp as on a free. But I do totally get that maybe O'Brien could be starting. And I'm ok with Tarks starting, and, unless an injury or big drop off, he'll start with JB, because he is the captain.
