Picking up 20mill for a player who, at the most generous interpretation, might be seen as a fringe player, is a financial bonus.
But I do wish we had taken the opportunity to address the fullback situation.
And ok the offer came in late, but with a little thought, we my have been able to do something muchaly beifishal, C/P Striker deal fell down, if we had made an offer for the player, in loan with an option to buy, it might have worked for everyone.
{Ed025's Note - i know im a negative Nellie but isn,t it just typical of us to lose out on a deal because we were just too late?..

When it seems that McNeil was off, fully expected that someone else would be coming in. Bit baffled tbh.

I’m with you on that one JB.
If we say we are light on positions, we can’t let players go without replacements.
£20m for a squad player is decent money considering what we have spent on starting players (and some in the bench) .
It’s beggars belief we aren’t either bringing in replacements or promoting youth to cover positions.

We have Armstrong back and hopefully George also. That's +1 compared to the start of the window in terms of squad numbers.

Reports Aznou to Marseille earlier so hopefully that didn't happen and he gets some chances now Dwight is off. Wonder if we will announce George before the end of his loan.

£20m for McNeil (if it goes through 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼) is absolutely crazy, especially as they play a 3-4-3 where he's not naturally suited to any positions.
That said, I've felt since his time at Burnley that he would make a good wing back - he's not quick, but he's decent enough at dribbling, quite smart at picking out a pass, a good crosser and not the worst in the tackle.
Wing back requires a lot of energy, but affords the players more time and space than any other positions, and I've got this suspicion that he may turn out to be a bit of a revelation for them in that position.
That said, we don't play him like that here, and Moyes would never risk it for some reason, so good luck to the lad - £20m for him based on his actual form as opposed to that hypothetical potential is insanity; if only it was earlier so we could actually buy a bleeding right back!

Definitely doesn't have the pace to be a wing back.

A bit sad to see McNeil leave to be honest, I know his form hasn’t been good this season but there could be reasons for this, the proof could be if he regains his form just like DCL! Then one has to wonder why! And wonder why Dibling hasn’t come on!

20m is good business for a player who has clearly hit his peak.

i
Disappointing window. We're desperate for fullbacks and get nobody. Thought Anzou was on his way out! Just hope he gets a chance to play. He was great against Sunderland. Let's hope we get some good players in the summer window.

£20 million for McNeil most be the coup of the season well done Everton.
{Ed025's Note - bad news for me though GB, i said i would take him there in a wheelbarrow.. :)

Just found out some very upsetting news that Armstrong is a big Red. Imagine he won't flinch at a move down the line. What a shame.
Agree2
02 Feb 2026 17:14:47
Quite sure Liverpool won’t be making a move for Armstrong though to be fair with the players they’ve been signing. I think we’re safe there.

02 Feb 2026 18:16:50
Wasn’t necessarily meaning Liverpool DPP. Being a red, there will likely be no sentiment there.

I am not calling the lads application into question for a second. You can see he is a born winner, mentality wise.
Definitely matters that he is a Red though. If a club comes calling, nothing keeping him here at all. Quite the opposite.
{Ed025's Note - i dont think it matters one jot BN myself..

Gordon was a blue; didn’t stop him going.
Rooney was a blue; didn’t stop him going.
Sure there are plenty of other examples of blues going. Don’t think being a red makes a difference. They would leave to try and win silverware or advance their career. That’s where we need to improve. Win something. Get into a decent Euro comp. Do something that makes us attractive to join.
Who you support as a kid doesn’t matter when you are being paid big bucks by someone. Money buys loyalty these days.
Seamus and Pickford buck the trend but there are many who you could refer to as glory hunters.

Inclined to agree that it matters Bluenose. after all had it not been for Fowler, McManaman and Carragher (amongst many others, and obviously the last named is a horrific human) being massive blues I'm sure they wouldn't have had quite such long and distinguished careers for Everton. Oh, hang on.

02 Feb 2026 20:42:42
Yeah, I guess you are right BR. Things are certainly are different these days regarding loyalty and money etc. That being said, I still think it plays a part for some.
I thought AG was a Red? I am almost certain.
Fjefc13, why was it pointless? He is one of the best youth products, if not thee best that we have seen since Rooney. To hear that he is a Red and not Blue is certainly not welcomed by myself. To imply that being a Red and playing for us doesn’t hold any weight in the lads future is simply naive.

Still haven't released confirmation of George, I think we can safely say this will be the only incoming providing he passes his medical. Seen Mateta has failed his, makes me nervous.

02 Feb 2026 15:11:52
If reports are true that Beto and mcneil are wanted by other clubs i would sell them even if we haven't got replacements in.
There's only 14 games left so whoever we do have left we can see how they do and then there won't be any of the they need a run of games to see if they are any good.
Its highly unlikely we will get relegated and then go big in the the summer window.
Or just get a couple of loan players in.
Agree2
02 Feb 2026 15:51:42
We’d need another striker if Beto goes.

02 Feb 2026 15:59:46
McNeil staying despite interest from palace and forest apparently.
Agree1
02 Feb 2026 16:39:13
From a business perspective it’s the ideal. Desperate bidding means overpriced selling. But we will be light so there needs to be minimum risk for me. Can’t lie, the idea still makes me nervous if no incomings.

02 Feb 2026 18:27:20
Two or three injuries and people will be wanting to know why we let these players go.
Agree1
02 Feb 2026 19:29:52
I agree, to be honest. Both have offered so little that even if we had a series of injuries, we wouldn't miss them - and it would maybe force Moyes into actually looking to the u21s for once.

Been a while since last posting but just to chip in, McNeill to Palace isn’t a Glasner signing it will be their player recruitment team, which is one of the factors in him wanting to move on
£20m is what we have gone back to say we will do a deal at.
Agree0
02 Feb 2026 18:28:51
If it was up to Glasner I don't think he would go anywhere near McNeil.
