Well we have signed three players for over 60 million pounds combined. Rohl and George were not new, and Hackney was a known entity, and if he ever gets a game we will know if he is any good.
Now it is well known, at least to the supporters, that we have needed a right-back and a striker for years. Plenty of speculation, both in the press and on here, but no action.
The question is "How much more money do we have for transfers"? Do we need to sell to recruit? Do we actually have a recruitment team and scouts?
OK we still have time but if we get a few in at the end of the window they are unlikely to start right away given Moyes' reluctance to give new players a game before they become integrated into the team, Hackney being a prime example.

So anyone expecting major changes in the team that finished last year to start the new year (apart from the injured) is likely to be disappointed.
Come on Everton prove me wrong!

Plenty of time to do that, mate.

Yes, we need strikers and a right back and a few more, but I still think our biggest problem is the manager.

26 Jul 2026 18:33:13
Didn't know that you don't like dm mate.

GB, we got Hackney in early. He has been left out of two pre-season teams. Plenty of time to do what? The first game of the season is 22nd August. Three weeks to recruit and get the player match fit and integrated into the squad, given Moyes' history with new players.

26 Jul 2026 18:44:36
Yes, Skylark, but we have no reason to believe he will be replaced. I just hope and pray that he changes his tactics. Miracles do happen, so I'm told.

Hackney is injured.

Manager is the biggest problem for me.

Celtic have got a bargain with Hogh.

26 Jul 2026 16:37:16
I had a similar thought, dev. It'll be interesting to see how he does at Celtic.

We have spent 65m so far on incomings (Rohl, George, Hackney) this season, with no outgoings to date.
Obviously I don't know what our transfer budget is, but given that we'd have to spend in the region of say 50m to get a proper decent CF, would suggest we need outgoings to fund arguably our most critical position of RB, where if we want a decent experienced one is also going to cost.

This is without strengthening other positions which may need back up.

I can't see us signing a striker, we are desperately short at right full back, so surely the club must be prioritising that? We also need a no.6 now IGG has gone. There may be some loan options later on in the window, but I am not holding my breath, I'd imagine it'll be the same as last year with a disappointing breakfast following a bad night in bed after 60mins.

26 Jul 2026 12:59:57
I think this is the problem with loaning players for a season. If you go on to buy them, it then doesn't feel like a new signing, yet as you say we have spent a fair chunk of money securing these players.
However, it is clear to all that we need a right back and a striker if we are to move forward.

You may be correct that we now need to sell before we can purchase any more players, but you would hope that those players have been identified and that we are simply waiting for the club to offload players to balance the books.

Couldn't agree more BB, and I hope you are right!

I still can't understand why we spunked 20m on George tbh Ed.

Some point to age and sell on value but I just don't get it. What is the point of that approach for a club in our position. If he doesn't do so well, what, we can still sell him for money.

Seems a very strange recruitment strategy imo.

Rohl I am not as mad at, I think when he played he actually showed good signs. He can cover a few positions and will only get better the more he adapts physically to the PL, as he is currently built like a tooth pick.

Anyone else think that Rohl is our new right back?

2

26 Jul 2026 12:39:32
I think he's an option, but surely we need to sign a proper one?!?

1

26 Jul 2026 13:03:06
Well it would be an improvement on O'Brien. But, again, is it going to improve the side overall, given it's not the player's natural position.

2

26 Jul 2026 21:15:17
I think Moyes doesn't rate fullbacks, he loves a big centreback tho, just squeezes them in anywhere along the back line.

Only just spotted your post about Amoura Toffebwoy1.

He is a good player and has very smart movement. For me he would need to be 1 of 2 strikers though. Not sure he could lead the line on his own in the PL mate.

I think it is the right league we should be looking at though. I would prefer us to get one of the below in.

Asllani
Lemperle
Kofane
Romulo.

Ta bluenose your my go-to gezzer for news on just about any players we are linked with your our answer the late ed02 I hope I remembered his title correctly what a knowledge and level headed fellow was him RIEP 🙏🏿

If you mean Fisnik Asllani, BN, then I'm with you on that, I would love to see him come to us but I think he is out of our budget (valued around £35m) .
He is exactly the type of player we should be looking at, and he got some good goals and assists last season, I believe it was 10 goals and 7 assists in 31 games for Hoffenheim.

And we would also have to compete with Dortmund, Barcelona, Stuttgart and Leipzig for his signature, considering they have all recently shown interest in him, especially Leipzig.

26 Jul 2026 15:48:02
You'd hope that if we got in there early, Optimum, we could sign a few players before the big teams come in for them.

Would not worry too much about Jimmie's operation. Evidently a groin injury. I had a hernia operation five weeks ago and have been playing golf for a week and I am 86. These days they use laparoscopic surgery which involves three little incisions which heal quickly.

I know that it's a lot different playing football at his level but he is young and will have exercises to speed up recovery. He might not play the first game of the season but should be fit soon after.

What's our plan for the up and coming season?
What's our football style?
What's our attack?
What's our defense?
What's our captain choice?
What's our management intentions?
What's our future plans for the owner?
I just feel like we are still a club in turmoil.

25 Jul 2026 21:56:12
No change in tactics would be my guess, Skylark.

25 Jul 2026 23:19:04
Same as last season, but with a little shuffle in midfield, and rather than trying to find our 2 main strikers, the midfield players shoot instead. That's it. 🥸

Hi Skylark I'm not one to get at other posters posts and as Walt Whitman wrote don't judge be curious so in light of that you might have a legitimate reason for your post so therefore I must ask -
Are you an official at the club where these questions have been asked?
Has Moysie just shrugged his shoulders and replied F, if I know?
Has the CEO not sent you the season strategy and spending plan?
Are you just as I a fan and we are being sold short as other clubs inform all their fans of these things.

I appreciate it's a banter site and I hope you take this as it's meant as lighthearted banter and me being curious.
If you start out expecting to be disappointed then you have more chance of being surprised by success or vilified for your lack of optimism.
Please cheer up it's only game 2 of preseason and there's a long way to go

A skylark means a small, brown songbird known for singing high in the air, or a verb meaning to play and frolic, have you perhaps chosen the wrong name or do you have a sense of irony.

I'm glad you're feeling more optimistic.
Take care and let's have a good season.
UTFT COYB. All the best, Big C, because my name starts with C and I'm over 6 foot tall. 😉

I think we all have the same reservations with the squad as it is. Having said that, that squad performed well for periods of the season. Nothing wrong with being optimistic. If we spend the whole time whinging, what's the point? Be good to see some business in the coming week. It tends to lighten the mood.

26 Jul 2026 12:35:33
Big C, you could do with having a word with TFG, you're good with words, maybe you could help with the removal of DM and make us all feel better.
All the best, the singing skylark!

So today’s second preseason friendly, I thought Aznou had a good game and George was good, Branthwaite was class again for the half he played. Tim looked as though he was playing within himself and, while effective, not his usual game, quite by his standard.
No Garner, Ndyai, or Hackney. Obviously no Pickford with his distribution but the two keepers did well so all in all extra minutes in the legs for the squad which is what it’s about, if we’d won 4-0 again I’m sure many would be saying it was only Bolton we should be beating them.

Bolton posed a different challenge today they were more physical and we handled it well. We were knocked off possession but we won it back and they posed no threat so again good run out and minutes in the legs.
Good to see the kids getting a run out and a chance to show what they can do.
I am sure by the time we play the last preseason game the team will look completely different and be sharp and firing on all cylinders.
Hopefully by then we’ll have Grealish back, Lewis, Cuffy and D’ju signed up.

Aznou looked really good again. I hope Moyes gives him some game time. Branthwaite was excellent. We are a different team with him in the side.

Let's not get carried away here. We were playing a very ordinary Bolton side who were in League 1 last year.

Our performance was pretty dire. We are useless in possession, and we create nothing. People talk about George as if he is the new wonder boy, but I never saw him go past his man once - always cutting inside and, more often than not, passing backwards.

I thought our performance was totally depressing and there's no evidence, at this stage, of any progress from last year. We need some inspiration and creativity - please!

Just watched the game. A typical 2nd fixture friendly against a lower league club who are always back in earlier and further along their summers than top flight and so are generally much fitter if not as good.
I'm never a fan of being a moaner at pre season or friendlies, and I'm posting only about this Aznou lad. I can clearly see why he didn't get a chance last season. He's alright, actually a bit of fresh air going forward yesterday, what with our lack of creativity, but nobody seems to remember how many times he loses the ball and is then out of position. He's also very, very small, and though I disagree with the bots on DM's case, this is one time where I'll join em, he ain't a DM player. Now could he do a job on the wing? I'm not sure his final product is actually much to shout about either.

Lots of forward runs (mostly into dead ends) and few crosses, of which 1 was decent. When you have a squad with obvious problems, fans seem to wish for any solution. He's a long way from EPL ready. We need a overhaul of the fullbacks, period, and this kid needs a loan or a sale. I can't see he will ever make it in a back 4 in this league. He got a lot of minutes last summer too. He's gonna be a red herring for the moaners again. It's a physical league, and we are a club that's always leant into that and like bricksh99houses in the backline. He's totally wrong profile, I don't get why he's here or who signed him. Unless the plans are to go 3 at the back and wing backs, but that would be a radical departure for DM and the club historics. I personally would love us to go 3 at the back. This rebuild is a long way off.

Yet again we have the miserable and sugar on my toast usual out. The Season hasn't started, we have no idea of the transfer/recruitment plan. Many reading crap sites. There must be some wonderful ex-managers/coaches/players on here. I am off. COYB.
