Does anyone know if we are or have looked at out of contract players or would that be too much of an admission of failure?

If there was someone good enough, with the right attitude and not injury prone or a bad egg, we'd look at them.

Usually, these players are on the scrapheap for a reason.

It's all well and good saying "Martial scored that goal against Liverpool and I saw him run past Coleman" or "Zinchenko played for Man City once, he must be world class", but that isn't how it works.



The left back who just left a German club seems interesting. Far more interesting than the likes of Zinchenko, Martial or Icardi, who would all expect 150k+ a week.

Then, we'd get to January, have no money and people would complain about us spending millions on wages for free agents who played a total of 8 games all season combined.

Would genuinely take Raphael Guerreiro. He is only 32, which is actually young for the fullbacks we have had of late.

I would take Carvajal as well. Won it all. Great leader and probably be the best defender at the club still.

Club have put it out that Balogun's personal terms did not change. I would be interested to know where the info that some wanger decided to offer him less came from and how the heck does that leak. Everything was ready and he walked 'not happy how he was treated'.

Was Moyes sidelined? The only wanger is Kinnear, a Marketing Manager, ffs, who the heck put him in charge of recruiting needs shooting. We are told that Freidkins are not hands on.

When did Moyes lie?

I know Kinnear said the board viewed not qualifying as a failure, but if they set that as a goal at the start of last season, they need their heads checking. Years of relegation fights don't disappear overnight with the squad they gave him last season. As far as I'm concerned, Moyes has worked miracles since he came back in. Yes, we were all disappointed how last season ended, but that is only because of the hope the season had given us up to that point.

Perhaps we could have qualified if they'd have given him the numbers he'd asked for last year. Maybe we wouldn't have had to use McNeil too.

This year he's asked for more and ended up with less. I think we need to start trusting what Moyes is saying and ignore the rest of the noise coming out of the club.

There’s a report from the Monaco Director saying Balogun was all done but then got frustrated by all the stuff with the medical team and the renegotiations and decided he didn’t want to sign a long term contract with the club.

I hear what you are saying, Bunk, and said the same thing to my brother last night. However, I believe this was more down to us trying to renegotiate his wages.

This is a disgrace if so. We had already agreed personal terms with him.

I can half understand trying to reduce the fee to Monaco, if we are not signing a player who can start playing straight away, but effing around with the lad's wages after it was all agreed is a joke.

The lad had to sit there and watch the club literally try and sign two other strikers, then, when they didn't get them, come back to him. That is not how you treat a player you want to sign for you.

Maybe I'm going mad but the timeline doesn't add up, especially with the Monaco Sporting Director version.

We chartered a flight for 8am.

The Monaco SD said Balogun didn't arrive until much later and was having medical at 4pm. No reason why he was so late.

The ankle issue was spotted at 7pm, and it took 2-3 hours to discuss.

He then said, "What happened was that around 20:00 our time, maybe a bit earlier, Everton realised there was no issue and decided they were ready to sign the contract.
I signed the contract. Everton signed the contract. At the last moment, the player decided not to sign."

20:00 their time is 7pm our time I think.

that doesn't sound right what.

Terms never changed. Why didn't he sign at 7pm? Maybe it's a typo and he said 22:00. Even still, why did he walk out at 1am?

Everton also said paperwork was delayed by Monaco. Was this the medical stuff?

I'm starting to feel we dodged a pre-Madonna in Balogun but I also think Monaco are talking nonsense.

It also doesn't explain why they accepted a deal with Chelsea and started negotiating at 8pm.

Wouldn't deal with Monaco again.

Honest to God, yesterday was Everton in its purest form. Nothing went right. Nothing even pretended to go right. Jack, Niles and Balogun stroll in and the club acts like that’s a full day’s graft. Behave. We had room to do more, but apparently everyone clocked off at dinner.

Then the striker saga, we looked like we were trying to sign someone off Gumtree. Medical drama, renegotiation, it was like watching your mate try to haggle for a PS5 off a fella in a car park. And mid chaos, we suddenly go, “Tell you what, let’s get Zirkzee.” Out of nowhere. Like a drunk impulse buy. Absolute Everton.

The right back scenario was a mess and not sure how it ended up being Niles, the guy who doesn’t want to be a right back by the way. Left back? Let one go with no cover. As for the transfer committee? Might as well be three fellas in the pub with a beermat. And Kinnear? Commercially he’s good, but football wise he’s an absolute fraud. His communication? Horrendous. He’s out there doing interviews with Toffee TV and the socials but clearly lying through his teeth and his manager straight up called him out on it.



Then the Armstrong fiasco. Any normal club goes, “No ta.” But us? No, we turn it into a full Netflix documentary. Fans intervening, plastered all over the internet, transfer committee apparently on a lunch break. What’s the point of having one if they’re just sat there like spare parts?

He needs to go. Simple. We’re basically a baby club again with a new stadium, new era, fresh start, we need someone who can actually steer the ship instead of driving it straight into the walls of the River Mersey with a grin.

Right now, we’re a mess. A full, vintage Everton mess. One striker to get us through the season. Johnson, George and Graham as cover. Graham who looks about three years away from being ready will have the weight of first team pressure on him. Garner and Rohl covering fullbacks, it’s all risk, no planning.

But here we are. Nothing we can do now. We just have to back Barry because he’s literally our only hope. If he gets injured, I swear we’ll be holding open trials in Stanley Park knowing this idiot.

I'm with you, Blue John. Anyone that's responsible for recruitment has to be held accountable for this disaster. Yes, we've strengthened in quality in areas, but these were all players on our radar already or whoever was available at the last minute. The scatter gun striker approach is a genuine embarrassment.

Just seen a very classy message from Nathan Paterson about his time at the club. He stated, amongst other things, that even though things did not go as planned, he found it an honor to play for such a prestigious club. The owner of this club could learn a lot from his humility.

All window to get ship shape, but last minute shenanigans has the potential to ruin yet another season. If they knew we needed to sell to get some spends together, then Ndiaye, Patterson, Tim and Beto etc al should have been put up for sale in July. Then this Balogan balls up could have been weeks ago, leaving us time to find alternatives.


Nothing for it but to promote some U21 strikers. Moyes has nothing to lose. He didn't receive the backing from those above him.
